FWIW, the thing that is great about the Five Senses tasting pack is that you are getting 1kg of coffee for only a small premium over buying a full kg of a single bean (+$2). It means you can try various beans to determine which you like, before buying a full kg of it, without paying significantly more.

This new tasting pack is significantly more expensive per kg than purchasing an individual kg (depending on which bean), so it wouldn’t really entice me to try out this roaster (who I personally have never heard of). If I wanted to try this roaster, I’d probably just take a punt on a full kg, and run the risk I don’t like it. But that also means I’m less likely to try that roaster st all…

    Just my 2c. :)

Interesting! Thanks for the feedback :) The challenge with this one is the difference in price of the different coffees.

Next week we'll try and get some tasting packs together that bridge this gap and get closer to the Five Senses tasting pack.

      • In terms of the different pricing on the individual beans, you would just take the average of the three $/kg (for 1kg), and base the pricing of the tasting pack on that (plus small premium).

I would put it to them like this: if they sell 4 x 750g tasting packs at $33.46 (the average price per kg of the three different beans), they are selling 1kg of each bean for the same price as selling 1kg of each bean individually. Add a small premium to pay for the extra packaging, and it works out to be the same as selling them in 1kg lots. But, likely they would sell significantly more, because people that have never tried their beans before are more likely to take up a cost effective tasting pack to find a bean they like.

It’s really a win-win for both roaster and consumer. The benefits of volume (still selling 1kg or 750g of coffee) while also increasing the chance of converting them into a return customer after finding which bean they like.

But I would wager that you’ll probably find the results yourself in the number of sales for the two tasting packs! :)

        • I like the thinking :) Just curious where you got the $33.46 price from?

          • +1

@directcoffee: $33.46 is just the average price per 750g across the three beans:

            • $37.95 + $42.95 + $52.95 = $133.85 (total price for 3kg)
            • $133.85 / 3 = $44.62 (average $/kg of the three beans)
            • $44.62 * 750 / 1000 = $33.46 (750g at $44.62/kg)

Alternatively, it's just the price for 250g of each bean, based on the $/kg for 1kg. Then just add them up! :)

            • 250g at $37.95/kg = $9.49
            • 250g at $42.95/kg = $10.37
            • 250g at $52.95/kg = $13.24
            • Total for 750g = $33.46

That way probably makes more sense intuitively! :)

    Any Axil soon?
I’ve probably got enough for a week or two…

What would you recommend as a good alternative to their everyday blend?

    • +1

Hey there, we probably won't have Axil again for a little while.

I'd check our the Staple Seasonal blend for a good everyday coffee :)

      How does that sound?

Thanks for that - I'll take a look!
