        Looks about right.
I'm 186cm and would normally wear an XL, but needed the 2XL when I tried it on in-store.

      • -1

Where did you get this from? It is completely wrong and misleading. Not sure why you posted it, because I went by this and the size is completely wrong.

        • -2

Are you saying people have different body shapes and that a simple size guide didn't fit your unique body shape?SHOCK HORROR!

          • @TimU: No I'm saying that stupid chart posted is easy off, nothing close to what the manufacturer says.

    • With a bank account with suncorp, can you purchase those gift cards?

      • yes

        • I think you can just sign up to suncorp and get the gift cards?

  • +11

A quick comment - Sizing runs a little small compared to average. I had to go up one size to a 2XL from the XL I would normally wear.

    • What stor was selling the black for 80 as I can get price match if I have name of stor customer care team will price match and free postage

  • Cheers OP

    • +3

Yes, I said so in my OP.

  • How easy is their return policy?

  • Moving to japan in November, how would this hold up to Tokyo winter?

    • I had a thin jumper and was there in November and suffered from cold, but this should be warm enough unless you go the mountains.

      • Thanks buddy, and that will last me through winter? I’m not coming back anytime soon due to COVID lol.

        • +2

Definitely should, make sure you don't wash it in washing machine unless it says so in the instructions. Otherwise Uniqlo has lots of good options there and with a store in most shopping strips.

    • Cool how long for? be still checking ozbargain ?

      • 10 months to a year. Yeah, I’ll still be checking cuz my wife still here but I’ll also be buying some GST free vidyagames:)

    • Just out of curiosity, how will you be able to fly out? Do you hold a dual citizenship of another country?

      • Japan doesn’t do dual citizenship for anyone over 18.

I’m going to be working as a English teacher, I was meant to go in September. Japan has just started to open up to foreigners who come for business and education reasons and plan to stay for at least 3 months.

        • Wow! That sounds awesome.i heard about this but wasn't sure it had been rolled out

          • +1

@aerona: Thanks, it’s been hard dealing with the delays and it’s nice to be complemented for it.

        • Oh I didn’t think Australians were allowed to leave the country unless we hold a perm residency or a citizenship of another country

    • Hey mate, tried to message you but the site said you weren't accepting new conversations.

If you have the time, could you message me some details about your teaching gig? Who you went through? What the requirements are? Any resources online you could point me towards?

Fell in love with Japan 2 years ago and toyed with the idea of working over there, but not sure where to start.

      • Long story short you need a bachelor.

I’m employed through the JET Programme. It’s a long and over complicated application process, you need to write a 2 page essay, interview, get police and medical checks, and otherwise send an 80 odd page application to get in.

While there are other English teaching companies in Japan Such as Interac or Aeon I chose JET because it’s a government run initiative with the best track record for treating its teachers well.

Here is a link to the application details, I’ll see if I can send you my email or discord so I can give you advice over voice.

  • Thanks OP. Got one.

I'm only seeing 199? Black showed as $80

  • 👍

  • +1

Is this as good as the perennial $99 Macpac Halo ?
I'm concerned that they do not state the fill weight.

They state the "fill power" of 600, which tells you nothing about how warm it really is.
I wish we had some decent comsumer protection that made advertisers tell us useful data, like the "R value" for home insulation.

    • Plenty of stock in Adelaide.
I got XL, but hopefully can exchange if doesn't fit.
I was wondering how it compared to Macpac as well?

      • which store in adelaide mate? went to the one in noarlunga and its 199

    • p.s. by "perennial" I meant to say the exact opposite. It comes up every year :-)

    • +1

I own both the Halo (non-hooded) and now this UA one.

They both identify as being "600 fill power" duck down.

The Halo is loftier (wider baffles), lighter weight (XL: 690gm [no hood]), has velcro cuffs and packs really small into it's own carry bag.
The Halo is ideal for consistently very cold weather (like sub 10C) or overnight cold-weather camping.

However, for Sydney's average winter, I find it's TOO warm to wear regularly.
I only wore mine during the day for maybe 5 days total last winter (2019, pre-COVID).

Once the sun's out and temps raise into the low teens, I find the Halo too warm for comfort, which means I end up carrying it more than wearing it.

This UA Hoodie is a little bit heavier (XXL: 860gms [with hood]), less loft (narrower baffles), elastic cuffs (quite loose) and seems like it would pack down a little larger than the Halo (untested).

I haven't tested the UA Hoodie in winter yet, but if feels like it would be more suited to being a daily jacket in Sydney winter.

      • Thanks. Sounds a bit like comparing SUVs, and saying "this one is useless off-road, but more comfortable on the freeway" :-)

  • +4

This has been on sale last couple of weeks,I had to go one size bigger, the fit is loose, and if you want a jacket for travelling I would suggest spending a bit more and getting the Macpac Halo when on sale, the down feels better quality, more loft and has Velcro around the wrists.

  • Would rather a North face jacket if in Victoria.

    • +6

Please point us all to the $80 North Face jackets. Thanx in advance.

      • That's also what I'm trying to find, they're all out of stock even at full price.

      • +3

Think it was more of a reference to Dandrews.

  • -2

    Shows as $199 for me

    • +2

You need to change the colour, then the price updates.

  • Thanks OP, order one with 10 dollar voucher this weekend and gift card, down to $63.

  • They seem pretty good!

I grabbed one - going by what some people said I went a size larger (XL instead of L). I hope it fits, and I wonder what the return policy is like if it doesn't.

    Thanks OP

Have worn this coat in 0-6 C temps with lighter base layer underneath while walking the dog. It is warm and protects against wind. It also did repel a very light rain. The sizing I found to be misleading from the description. It is not a loose fit. I normally take an XL and this coat in that size will only allow for a light base layer nothing bulky. If you want to layer heavier you definitely need to go a size up

  • +1

am i missing something? checked all black/gray sizes and all show 199

edit: ah nvm misunderstood OP only grey on special

    • Black is on special, showing for me $80
      Grey shows $199

      • +1

No, it's the other way around.
Black ("Charcoal") is $249 (or $199 club price), no discounts
        Grey ("Wire") is $80

  • Coupon code "CLUB20OFF" cannot currently be added to your cart.

    • You need more than 120 cart value… Just got gas stove, socks and jacket for 109… will sell the gas for 20 $ :) as I have one already:) So effective - 89 with socks and jacket.

      • I have added 2 items which makes total as $160

        • New account only, that’s their welcome voucher

  • How it compares with the north face 149 one from Costco?

  • Black for $80 is that instore for every state or just Sydney? Website says black pitch grey $249.99 and wire black $80. Which is the black one and which is the grey one. Is the black one on the website $249.99?

    • As I said:

my local BCF had the black ones marked down to the same price ($80)

After looking at the BCF website, this may have been a local pricing error.

Black ("Charcoal") is $249 (or $199 club price), no discounts
      Grey ("Wire") is $80

      • Which store is your local?

      • What’s the name of your local store that has the black for $80?

        • Must be BCF.

Different quality to underarmour, but for $35 why not

600 duck down with hoodie Vs 200 synthetic down without hood.

  • Got one! Thanks OP 👍🏻

  • I'm 198cm guessing the 3XL won't fit me either :(

  • Is anyone able to provide a receipt of a Black/Pitch Grey at the $80. I'm aware these ones aren't meant to be on sale but seen comments above saying some places had them at same price

    • +1

Tried it on at my store but they weren't having it. Picked up the blue instead.

Not my favourite colour, but for $80 who cares really.

  • Thanks OP, got 1.

  • +1

Got email the order is being canceled and refunded..

    • +2

Was it because someone protest about the ducks losing their feathers?

    • Why was it cancelled?

      • They said no stock is available anywhere in Australia. I've replied back and haven't heard back since.

        • Aw shit I hope mine goes through, paid by discounted gift cards and all!

  • Went to BCF auburn and they only got the black and blue colours available at $199 for BCF members. Blue one has sizing from M-2XL while black only has L-2XL available.

    • There is no Blue, it's Grey.
They call it "Wire", like metal wire.

      • looks like blue when I picked mine up. Picked mine up from BCF Malaga for $80 this morning

        • You could probably call it "grey-blue", but it definitely ain't "blue-blue".

        • Check colour on receipt or tag.

      • Looks blue to me. I should've taken a photo.

  • I got a message ready for collection, there was a fair of stock in SA stores when i ordered last night.

  • Even though the wire colour doesn’t say it’s sold out on line it appears as not available for delivery. Wondering if the black one is worth $181? ($199 club price plus discounted gift card).

    • +3

No, I wouldn't pay $180 for this jacket.

There are much better down jackets available for a lot cheaper.
