TPG to Launch New Low-Cost Brand 'Felix'

TPG Telecom is launching a new low-cost, 'digital-only' brand Felix.

The new brand, Felix, will go head-to-head with Telstra's low-cost challenger brand Belong Mobile and TPG boss Iñaki Berroeta said it will operate in isolation of TPG and Vodafone's existing products, but will use the telco's existing mobile infrastructure.

What do you guys think, will this be as dirt cheap as Kogan? Or just another name that will 'Belong' to the MVNO bandwagon?

Wait, TPG regard themselves as a Premium brand now?

    • their FTTB is solid and much better than NBN so yes they are premium.

Until you need to route overseas

      • TPG optic fiber network is tiny. Think of them as Tasmania and the NBN as the rest of the world.

      • Felix is a mobile service so it's different thing to NBN.

    • Given that TPG = Vodafone, then yes, Vodafone is their premium.
Will be interesting to see where Felix slots in vs TPG mobile price-wise.

    • Yes, I don't get this either. I probably do it the other way, ie having the other brand as premium ala lexus.

    • “Seamless, sustainable and simple is what customers are telling us they want from their telco plan,” Berroeta said

I'm not sure about you, but lag-free, reliable and consistent is what I'd value most from my telco plan.

I definitely don't want to see what's in Felix's magic bag. Budget TPG sounds horrific.

Makes sense, will take them years to catch up to telstra and Optus 5G thanks to Huawei ban
Might as well use that aging 3G and 4g network, that’s already woeful.

    • Generalizing mobile networks is so 2010. I get well over 200mbps indoors on that "woeful" 4G network where i am in Sydney. Came in very handy the other weekend when NBN was down for a day from some bright spark cutting a fibre link.

I'm confused, I thought TPG was already a low-cost brand. There's further to go is there?

The new brand, Felix, will go head-to-head with…

Wait wait, let me guess…..Netflix, right? right?

All the good names were taken already?…

They considered Whiskas, but thought it would be too obvious…

  • Well it looks like it's going to be $35 for unlimited data at 5mbps and unlimited calls/texts. Argubly it's more premium than the current TPG offerings which top out at $39 per month for 30GB.

      5mbps?
what you can you do at 5mpbs?

      • Most day to day web browsing should work fine and both YouTube/Netflix suggest 5mbps is all that's needed for HD video streaming.

      • 5Mbps is ~54GB per day.

        • 20mbs now, 200gb a day if your so inclined

      • Clearly never experienced the joys of dial up.
