Awful machine, don’t waste your money
Put your cash towards a decent laptop

    • Okay

        You’ll regret it, that’s all I’m saying

        • -1

Wait, you said put your cash towards a decent laptop, which I agreed to.

So what am I supposed to regret again?

  • +1

    Eww!!

  • How is this a 2 in 1 laptop??

    • Yeah its not, I'll edit that. Thanks.

    • You'll get frustrated and throw it against a wall.

      • frustrated and snap it in half

Celeron emmc and 4g ram in 2020 means this is an electronic garbage…..

I know it's a budget laptop and the price reflects that, but that's as good as paper weight.

Running basic things would already be a struggle :S

    • To be honest the size and form factor makes it an unwieldy and awkward paper weight too.

Any recommendation for something better but say under $500?

    • Second hand on renewed .com.. x360 or spectres are okay

    • +4

For sub $500 you're going to have to keep an eye out for some sales/clearance/outlet/etc items. Nothing off the shelf will be decent, and even that, quality/value drops away very quickly below $500.

This from a few weeks ago would be an example of a 'usable budget' laptop I'd suggest.

as a minimum aim for 4 cores CPU, 8GB RAM and 128gb SATA SSD and if possible also full HD screen :)

  • +1

This is simply a "we're struggling to put food on the table but I need a laptop for work/study" laptop. It's not even a "I just check email" laptop.

The 4gb ram is a nice touch however.

I think second hand would be a better bet at this price point from a performance stand point. I.e., a 6-8 year old machine with an i5, 8GB RAM and a proper SSD would beat this hands down for similar money.

      • +1

Trade off is risk. With a new one, yeah it won't perform as well, but you know it'll be clean. No iffy battery, no thrashed cpu/ssd, no screen wear.

If I recommend something to someone, I'll generally not recommend used, but it is worth offering the option!

  • A used/refurbished corporate laptop such as Dell Latitude from eBay would be a much better buy for around $400.

  • +1

I have the older S130 with the N4000-yeah these aren’t the best you can buy but I enjoy my Lenovo laptop heaps for basic photo editing.

If anyone's in VIC, check out Reliance Comtech in Mount Waverley - they don't have a website but have been in business for (I want to say over 10 years) - they sell a lot of those ex-corporate Dells, Lenovo's, etc ranging from $200-$500.

IIRC, $250 got you an i5 gen 3 or gen 4 laptop and is way better experience than a Celeron at $337.

I've bought my dad a couple of laptops from there previously and they've been mint.

  • I'll stick to my old dell latitude i7 5th gen laptop that I got from eBay for $320 few months ago, still miles better than this slow turtle.

  • Not even worth the money….

  • Life's too short for slow and sh*tty computers
