  • Have been wondering whether this will be in Gamepass when EA Access and Gamepass are merged.

  • +1

It only just came out and has had more discounts than Holden, what's wrong with it?

    • +2

Think they said there will be no more dev or future plans for the game? So its pretty much done and dusted

      • Yes, it's stand alone. Never intended for any DLC etc.

      • +7

Never thought I'd see the day where a product being done and no DLCs would be a bad thing.

        • +1

Well it is pretty barebones. A quick single player mode, and two online modes with four ships in two factions.

Even Tie Fighter had expansions packs.

        • Lol yeah especial given its EA and their affinity for DLC and loot boxes

    • +1

      There are a few factors

      • Niche genre
      • Outside bugfixes, some balance and performance patches there are no plans for DLC or content which affects the longevity of the game
      • The 3 biggest issues with the game is ranked play, HOTAS deadzone and the low framerate on the Steam version which affects word of mouth and sales and hence the population of the game all of which can be patched are going to get patched according to EA.
      • Limited mulplayer modes

The game is very good however and does a lot right

      • No Games as a Service or Microtransactions can be seen as a positive so what you buy is what you get and its a very traditional game.
      • Cross platform play across Xbox, Playstation and PC which props up the playerbase
      • Cheap price
      • Intresting SP
      • Top gameplay
      • +4
        • HOTAS deadzone has been fixed by patch already. Deadzones are now individually adjustable.

Unfortunately, that was how I learned that my venerable Logitech Extreme 3D Pro has finally started to pack it in, with a permanent z-axis drift.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy the Epic Game Store version, particularly if you want to play in VR.

The EGS version fires up the Origin app to play, and then if you switch to VR, well, you're going to get Steam along for the ride via Steam VR.

That's three different app launchers for one game.

OTOH, if you can live with the glitches in VR, it's absolutely amazing to play.

        • which version to buy if I want to play in VR with less annoyances?

          • @lostn: If you have Oculus, Steam won't fire up, Oculus will. I'm using Epic and I don't mind the work, I just load Epic, Origin, and Oculus one after the other, and then run the game.

            • @FabMan: i'm going to be using WMR with my G2 when it ships.

        • Mate Is that the roll issue? I have the same joystick and no matter what bloody settings i fiddled with i could not stop unwanted roll? It was still nowhere near as bad as kb/mouse overall, but annoying enough i stopped playing.

      • is it actually native to steam or does purchasing it on steam store just launch Origin?

        • There is a account link to Origin on first boot up so you can do Crossplay but its not native on Steam, you only get Achievements and Trading cards for having it on steam. Its on Epic Games store and Origin as well.

          • @[Deactivated]: i'd probably want it direct on origin then, to get rid of steam overlays.

            • +1

@lostn: At the moment the Origin one is the better version as there is a glitch on Steam version where you cant get high refresh rates (its going to get patched)

              • @[Deactivated]: if you buy the steam version can you just launched it directly via Origen and not open steam at all?

  • +1

On PC you really need a joystick or game controller. The KB/Mouse controls and feel are god awful (nothing like Battlefront 2). As a big fan of the old star wars flight sims i found this falls well short, but others do really like it.

As for why its cheap it was only $50 at launch and could be gotten cheaper then too (i got $44), its stand-alone game with cross platform so i guess sales wise with no intended future content they just want to hammer it out there until Christmas.

    • +1

Seconded. VR + joystick is sensational.

Good luck buying a joystick now though. The release of MS Flight Simulator & Star Wars Squadrons = joysticks sold out everywhere. The earliest that Scorptec & PCCG are reporting stock availability is November.

      • What joystick are you using? Im just using a Logitech Extreme3DPro but i could not seem to stop unwanted roll. Annoying AF. Stopped playing after 3 days.

  • Apparently the Origin version is best for people playing on their Oculus Quest/Quest 2/Rift due to it using Oculus libraries.

    • what about for WMR?

      • I haven't heard either way for WMR, sorry

  • It's $35 at epic if you have a voucher. I just checked and I still have two $15 off vouchers. They come on more then I use!
