  • need to mention, it is a SATA II ssd. do you know if any SATA III is having discount? anyway, good deal for those people need it. thanks.

  • this is basically just a OCZ Vertex, right? the one with the indillinx controller?

good SSD and good price but id personally be looking for a sandforce controller at the minimum these days (not that theres anything at all wrong with these apart from comparatively slower speeds).

    plussed it anyway :D

EDIT - i was wrong, looks like the LE uses the sandforce 1200 controller - which is a good one. sorely tempted to grab one of these for myself now!

EDIT again - ordered! post quote comes up as $35 when you use the shipping calculator but came to $28 for me when using PayPal checkout. total cost = ~$285AUD out of my bank account.

    • Same, ordered one too. Shipping on site was $35, Paypal only added US$15 for "overnight" shipping, whatever that means.

      Awesome deal … :)

Its got the SF-1500 controller, which were hideously expensive and only 5000 were made due to this. But ocz ended up using their SF1200 based firmware for stability.

Its a great ssd mine lasted for a year before I had an issue and rma it. I think it was an Intel driver issue though, not the ssd.

Mine was the LE 100GB, not sure how different this one is. But I'd buy this if I was in the market no question.

  • I'm looking for ~250Gb SSDs at the moment and this is a bloody good price for brand new and delivered regardless of the controller used.

  • I have a 120GB Corsair F3 atm, and still have ~80GB free. I don't really think (unless you install heaps of programs) that 240GB is really that necessary… but at this price who can argue!

    • unless its going in a laptop that only has space for one drive (exclusive of removing the optical)

however there is a reason external hdd's are there =P

  • Damn nice price. So very tempted :/

    • me too, i'm really thinking it through

      • Don't think… just buy!!!

  • +3

    Dont touch it.

25-50% of these things die. I'm a past owner.

You do not want to have to send this overseas for warranty.

Strongly recommend sticking to samsung, intel and crucial drives. Stay away from sandforce controllers, the sandforce controller likes to die.

AFAIK SF-1200 products are fine … its the SF-2000 series that are plagued with issues. I've had my SF-1200 for a year now and it's still working perfectly.

      • +3

        I've had a SF-1200 Vertex 2 for 2 years and it's still going strong.

      • -2

Lucky. Check newegg reviews…. SF1200 is bad too.

    • +2

      why neg the guy's comments?

      • -7

Because he has no clue what he is talking about.

        • -3

My vertex died too after 1 year or so

        • Dont know what I'm talking about? LOL!

Go to newegg. Google for "newegg vertex LE" and pick one of the drives. Click customer reviews. Which one you use will change numbers slightly… but here's a rough idea:

3 star reviews = half are drive failures. Adjusting for not-dead complaints, thats 1.5% of the reviews
4 star reviews = Mostly drive failures. Adjusting for not-dead complaints, thats 3% of the reviews
5 star reviews = Mostly drive failures. Adjusting for not-dead complaints, thats 25% of the reviews

There is some skew because you are more likely to have someone complain than applaud.

On the other hand, sometimes a bad review indicates several dead drives.

29.5% drives failed. Generally within 3-6 months of ownership, according to newegg.

Now, that's really rough info, I've scanned the page, not counted in detail. Because I'm not going to invest more time into this response.

Consider failure rates in intel/samsung/crucial is 2 to 4%?

Now, tell me I'm wrong. Again. Please.

        • I am shocked and appalled that a mod has removed my negative. The above post is new and detailed, but my point was substantiated sufficiently in my original post, if anyone bothered to actually look at newegg like I suggested.

    • Agree with justtoreply. OCZ products generally have a higher failure rate than other brands. I've had a $150 power supply fail after 6 months; never buying OCZ again.

      • These are different from those the main problem with those was the FW was bricking the drives.

  • nearly $1.2 per gig, I'm sold……….

  • The only good reviews i've found of this model are non-independent ones by the above seller and business parters. These reviews even try pass off closely related but non-relevant reviews as if they apply to this model.

Here is a review done by tweaktown: http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/4413/revisiting_the_legend…

      • just reading through it and quote:

"To be completely fair, the article today is more of an advertisement than it is a review. We've already reviewed a mature OCZ Vertex LE, but the drive does have newer firmware and even better performance."

        just FYI.

  • I recently bought an OCZ SSD and it didn't come with a bracket mount to put into my PC case. So make sure you have one of those too.

    • +1

Two words Oliver: Duct Tape! ;)

      • +1

        I use good ol' blutack.

For desktop applications you really don't need to shell out for a bracket, unless you move your machine a lot. You can just leave it sitting on the floor of your case (away from other components of course) and since SSDs has no mechanical parts, it won't move around when its in operation.

        • +3

There's a little MacGyver in all of us! :)

      • I reckon that the best mounting is adhesive-backed Velcro

  • bit of a long-shot question but i know ozb is a hotspot for helpful techsaavy types

could i have this put into my imac 27" to replace a noisy HD?

    • lolnope

    • lol he uses a mac
welcome to the wonderful world of unibody design
truly revolutionary that u need a genius to change ur hdd and ram for u
      (ozb also full of trolls)

  • Anyone in perth want to share shipping?? :D

  • I'm gonna get one too. 240gb is about what i need for Win7 and Steam ;p

    Thanks OP

  • How much slower than the Vertex 3 is it?

    • Depends if you have a real Sata III controller to run it on as the early marvell ones were utter crap and the three series only runs at just over Sata II speeds. It's slower but if you really want speed go all out and put two of these in raid 1 which would be almost as fast even over sata II with all that storage…almost enough for my steam folder.

just did a bit more dig around, pretty poor reviews on this merchant:

    http://www.resellerratings.com/store/MyDigitalDiscount

    • +1

My drive has already shipped, via UPS, for $15 shipping.

      So far, so good …

      • +1

So has mine, with the $6 shipping.
Expected delivery is 24th, which I highly doubt ;p

        • How did you guys manage to get shipping so low? Especially since its UPS?
Edit: oh.. unless you guys are subtracting the discount from the shipping cost…

    • ash, please put no thought into our RR.com reviews. If you look deeper you will see we have a 9 out of 10 star lifetime ratting. We stopped promoting RR a while back when they IMHO turned into the business of extortion. They stripped all of the resellers privileges unless you pay them $100 a month. They have since added some of the features back but still hide the Order#, contact info, and name of the customer. Unless you are a paying member you really don't have the tools to manage any issues that may come up on that site. TO prove my point compare the ratings of Newegg (paying) vs. Best Buy (non-paying). Both of these stores are equally large and equal in customer satisfaction. But if you look at the RR comparison BB rattings show that only 2 out of 10 customer are satisfied. If that was the case best buy would have been out of biz day one.

Thanks for all of the orders. Keep them coming and I will keep them shipping.

  • Can anyone tell me if this will work with a MacBook (2009 unibody design). I know you can buy brackets and mounts both to replace the regular hdd and the optical drive, but I don't know if this particular drive will work

    • -1

yes, 2.5" hdd in a macbook is a regular hdd, all you need is a small phillips head screw driver and about 10 minutes. (and then obviously to reinstall or image, but the hardware side is easy)

      • yes, a jewellers screw driver set & 10min on the kitchen table & its done. but fyi, you need to remove the lugs from the old driver, place on the new drive and replace (just reverse all the steps), its easy done at home and you have fixit videos on the web too. While you can clone your HD to the new one (I would do this before swapping) you might consider doing a time machine backup and a clean install (of lion) and then restore the apps/data back from timemachine… While both ways works, a clean install rocks as it removes all the hacks & tweaks and you inevitably never install all the apps you had previously as you never used many of them.

  • To members questioning the reliability: These are highly reliable drives because they use 34nm Intel Flash Chips. The problems that OCZ is having lately is due to them switching to 24nm chips. Read about it here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ocz-vertex-2-25nm-ssd,28… Also Tweaktown did a nice review on the a while back http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/3372/ocz_vertex_limited_edi…

We appreciate your orders and keep them coming.

    Matt

  • looks like mine was shipped a couple days ago and is on-track for delivery by friday…bloody impressive if that is the case considering how slow things can be to get posted within australia!

  • Mine arrived today. Woohoo! I'm now backing up all files on my laptop to my external HDD and then I'll proceed to install the SSD.

Thanks for the fast shipment MyDigitalDiscount :)

  • +1

Well I have now installed the drive and it is SPEEDY, cool and silent compared to the Scorpio Black it replaced.

Well worth the investment for the lower temperatures alone as it is heaven on my left wrist. The previous drive would get so hot that it would be very uncomfortable to rest on.

    Once again thank you MyDigitalDiscount.

    • No problem glad to be of service. If you guys that bought these could please post some reviews on the site for the product that would be great. I have over 100pcs left so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Considering ordering two, which shipping is more reliable/trackable? UPS or USPS?

  • Great deal but I feel like I should post a warning. I placed my order a couple of days ago - it shipped (UPS tracking is showing it's nearby but expected delivery of the 12th). The kicker is MyDigitalDiscount just sent me an invoice for $30. It shows the amount I paid but makes no mention of the coupon. I doubt they'll actually come after me for the $30 but just a warning for the rest of you.

    • Update: Just received the package today, Dec. 8. Placed the order on the 4th. Wow that's fast.

    • I will check into that in the morning not sure why you would have received an invoice for $30. Must be some kind of mistake or misunderstanding.

      • I received the invoice, stated as shipped, but $30 was owing (the coupon wasn't applied to the invoice page). Please issue corrected invoices marked as "PAID", in case we wish to claim these drives for tax purposes! ;)

        • actually not sure if it shipped yet, #73823

        • Received! That's some speedy shipping (USPS).

The cardboard envelope sadly looks like it's had a rough time, and a dye attack. Hopefully the drive is fine!

        • They don't call them Solid for giggles ;)

      • Thanks for pointing that out rohitman. Ends up one of our systems was not reporting the $30 off. We are resending the Invoices showing the entire amount is paid.

Guys please post some feedback about the drives on the site. We still have a decent amount of them left. There was a lot of them.

        • I ordered the 240GB ssd plus another mSATA ssd.

This morning I received the UPS package and only mSATA ssd was inside.

          My order id is #73947
