besides the viewing angle whats better than the sammies with a 2ms refresh rate?

    Optimal Resolution:
    1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz
    Contrast Ratio:
    1000 : 1 (typical)
    2,000,000:1 (dynamic)
    Dynamic Contrast Ratio:
    2 million:1 (Max)
    Brightness:
    300 cd/m2 (typical)
    Response Time:
    8ms (gray to gray) Typical

60Hz not that great, average native contrast ratio… ?

    • Might not look that great on paper, but they are one of the best monitors on the market. the colour is vivid and accurate, mine has a tiny bit of light leakage (no more than most LCD's). but no biggy.

    • +1

TN panel = bad viewing angle and bad colour gamu

IPS panel = good viewing angle and good colour gamut

DO NOT LOOK AT THE RESPONSE TIME
your eyes can't tell difference under 16ms mate

    • not sure why that comments deserves a neg it was a question…thanks to the people who responded.

so basically it comes down to colour accuracy. (which isnt really a statistic that is measured in the above)

rookie error to post negatively on the first post. i think people read that as "response time is everything", whether or not u meant that.

actually re-reading that, i can see it seems like a pretty innocent question, weird how the first time i read it, i thought u we're just being a prick. I have no idea why.

Also i dont think the sammies have as good resolution.

        • thanks for the feedback.

yeah, just asking a question as it would seem on paper the sammies are just as good, but i know people go nuts over these, wanted to know why they are better, want to get a second 24 in the future, the dells are a good 40% more than the sammies, so wondering if they are worth it.

maybe i should have said, why are these better, or what about these is better than the sammies. grammer is everything it would seem, though im usually in a rush to get my thoughts out and continue on.

I came from a 2ms Sammy, here's my list of Pros:

    • Viewing angles are far, far better
    • Colours are much more realistic
    • Picture quality is fantastic
    • 16:10 aspect ratio is a refreshing break from the multitude of 16:9 panels
    • Great matte finish to screen and bezel
    • Completely adjustable stand, can be swivelled to portrait mode
    • 3 Year warranty
    • +1

Is it worth the additional 1/4 cost? i.e. $200 for BX2450 vs. $279 for Dell U2412M?

  • I don't know whether to save up for a high quality IPS or just get this cheap e-IPS.

    • E IPS is cheap n good view angle
      save more for H-IPS

  • Fantastic monitor ergonomically, excellent viewing angles, rich colours, easy to use navigation.

Ended up buying two and both have a dead subpixel… I think they may be B grade panels and unless you have a single bright pixel or 6 or more dead ones, they are then considered within specifications… Panel I believe is manufactured by LG..

  • I bought the U2312HM model on the last sale. I'm still waiting for it to be delivered.. It has been 6 days exactly.
Apparently there's quite a few people got dead pixels on their screens. I just hope i can get a perfect flawless monitor even if I need to wait for a month to get it. :(

    • I had a dead pixel and it was replaced the next business day…. if there is a fault Dell won't muck about with warranty claims. They are fast to respond.

    • I ordered 2 of the U2312HM too, and from putting the order in till it arrived at my door, it took a little over 24 hours.

Both screens are perfect, not bright/dead pixel.

      • What is the best free program to test for bright/dead pixels?

        • -2

:S bright/dead pixles are on the screen and as such dont have anything to do with the computer, the computer cant see the display and gets no real feedback about the "health" of the screen..

the most info you get is what the graphics card outputs…(refresh rates and resolutions.)

i did avoid the temptation of saying something about the best program being your eyes…

        • Haha ofcourse I will check it over with my eyes but under normal conditions I may not pick up bright/dead pixels right away. I know there are programs which make this process much easier and make bright/dead pixels stand out by running through different screens. Better to know for certain right away rather than discovering it a month or two down the track when it is too late to return!

Its not as silly as it sounds.

        • ahh, ok, I was just reading something else where a guy was asking why his computer wasnt working, turns out he had the graphics card plugged into the on board graphics instead of the discrete graphics… funny thing was he sounded like he really knew what he was taking about.

so in the mind set of people asking odd questions…

now i understand your talking about a monitor calibration application, that displays stuff so you can easily pick them out…

  • I am trying to use moneybackco but it won't let me log in! anyone have the same issue?

    • Wouldn't work with IE but finally logged in with firefox. Hopefully no problems getting the 7% money back!

    • Logging in to MBC fine here, but s2d6.com has been down for me for the past hour or so, which is preventing the referral link from working.

Its weird that they allow up-to 5 dead pixel before considering warranty.
But apparently under their "Total Satisfaction Policy" you can still return the monitor within 15 days if you are not happy for any reason.
So make sure you find those dead pixels within first 15 days.

    • +1

I called up my then Dell account manager on the same day the monitor arrived with bad pixels, and she didn't even tell me there was an option to return the monitor if I am not pleased with it. She said she logged a fault with support and it might take them a few days to get back… Few weeks down the track still waiting… When my new account manager took over the account she called up asking how I went, I told her still waiting for support to call, and that out of all the monitors I own (and I do have quite a number) these two are the first ones I've been stuck with that have had bad pixels and I'm not happy..

Don't get me wrong, it's a great monitor and I'd gladly pay an extra $100 for each one I bought if I could be guaranteed no dead pixels…

In a nutshell I will never ever buy another dell monitor unless I can get a guarantee of no dead/stuck pixels… </rant>

    • +1

The "Total Satisfaction Policy" isn't free. It'll be something like $100 to send it back and you pay postage.

  • Found the Dell 3-Day sale link, and have now updated the main entry with other LCD monitors that are on sale.

  • Woo - monitor is showing up as discounted down to $36.00
Pity the website is having problems and won't let you choose it :(

I was trying to go through moneybackco last night and it was timing out so waited till this morning… discount fail!

    Anyone else having this problem?

edit: Have chatted with a dell rep online and they're aware of the problem and fixing it. Until then can't buy anything from the website even at the proper sale price of $279

  • BTW moneybackco.com clickthrough is working again, bought one of these last night hopefully with the extra 7% (~$20 off) through MBC!

Thanks OP, nice first post! suprised no one has mentioned it yet :)
