    RDNA2 is nice

    • +4

      Is that you Borat?

      • Very nice

  • +4

I'm certainly considering and was before but I'm waiting for actual reviews and benchmarks, not marketing presentations.

  • Coming from an i5-6500 and 1060, I'm keen to start a new build with both amd CPU and GPU. 6800 seems to be the sweet spot for 1440p gaming?

    • +2

Yes, or the 3070. They both seem to be great 1440p cards that offer well over 100fps in most games.

  • +3

The 6900XT is truly an incredible card considering the price. I can see it pushing Nvidia to put out a 3080 Ti/Super as soon as possible. The 6800XT is a good 3080 competitor but I'm not sure if it's enough to sway buyers from the 3080 with a $50 decrease in price. The 6800 is only $80 less than XT and costs more than the 3070 but offers slightly better performance. Either way I'm really happy to see AMD offering high end GPUs again and taking the performance crown from Nvidia (well, we should still wait for actual benchmarks first). Ray tracing support and performance will be very important and that's one thing Nvidia fans like to leverage against AMD at the moment, even though the support for RTX and its performance is pretty average. I'd expect big things from Nvidia going into 2021 in response to AMD, which means I'd probably hold off buying the 3080 and especially 3090 at the moment, not that stock even really exists.

  • I'd wait for the benchmarks from the usual crowd of tech reviewers and go from there. The 6800 & 6800XT are released in a couple of weeks and these will match up with the RTX3070 based on AMD's info so definitely wait and see if you're thinking of RTX 3070. And the 6900XT is supposed to be competitive to the RTX3090.

    • This. The infinity fabric is something unknown too, so it will be interesting to see what this can do. Seems like this series will have a different approach to the driver issues the previous series had, and will use a different software. I'll wait 3 months for the hype to die and the problems to surface and be addressed.

I didnt see any mention of freesync technology either. Is it a given that being a radeon card it will have freesync? Very good to see the price and performance is competitive to Nvidia. Those ti cards will be the competitive edge, and i dont think any of them will need to consider dropping or raising prices for a while. I dont know anyone with money right now, too many things to buy!

  • Unless they can offer a significant performance advantage at a particular price point I'd still pick Nvidia every time, I know people have said AMD have improved their drivers, but I have still experienced weirdness due to AMD graphics when I have been troubleshooting other people's PCs.Have never had an issue with Nvidia. The 6900xt in this instance could do very well if it is truly competitive with the 3090, as that's a huge price saving.

AMD have made me swing from Intel for the first time ever this year, but I'll be sticking with Nvidia for GPUs for now. Will be interested to see how they deal with availability when they go on sale.

  • +4

The 6900XT is largely irrelevant IMO as it's not the pricepoint most will be shopping at.

The 6800XT is a really good card, but between it at $650 and the 3080 at $700, I'd go with the 3080 because of Nvidia's better features and driver stability. The 6800 is a good card, at $580 it's close enough to the 3070 at $500, but the 16GB VRAM is a big upgrade and largely addresses the biggest issue of the 3070 which is its 8GB VRAM. Not to mention it's faster than the 3070 as well.

    • +1

      Agreed#

The 69xt is for non price sensitive customers paving the road for better value down the stack. I consider 68xt the highest a price sensitive 'gamer' would buy.

    • There are a few 2080 Super and 2080 Ti owners out there. I think there's a market for that kind of card but they probably already have their sights on the 3090 as price doesn't matter.

    • well it's called flagship to highlight what they are capable of, apparently, it might beat the 3090… not sure if it will but I hope so… at least we will have some competition finally.

    • are you referring to USD?

  • Lets see what driver issues they have this time.

  • Red is faster.

    • +8

red or green are same speed in a vacuum.

      • Could believe there's a vacuum with some of the extreme cooling in some custom gaming desktops

      • In a vacume, your card will cook unless you have water cooling. And even then, its very likely to spring a leak because of the pressure.

  • Purely on price… PLE's EVGA offerings are the closest to RRP of $1,139, using the same exchange rate for the 6800XT gives $1,059. Unsure how much AIBs are going to charge for their custom models, taking a guess at $1,300+ for non-entry level, decent ones.

On performance/overclocking… 6800XT AIBs are going to overclock way better than 3080's (+3 to 5%) according to rumors, going to have to see 3rd party reviews for this one.

Smart Access Memory (SAM) makes me skeptical though.

Biggest take away is the 8GB/10GB vs 16GB, wonder how big of a difference it'll make for 1440p and 4K.

  • +1

    performance seems very good. I will consider when;

    1) evga come up with next revision for the 30 series as their current line up is both rushed and looks ugly as f**k (seriously the upside down joker lips???)

    2) when amd’s partners come up with their designs for 6000 series. AMD’s design looks kind of dated and bulky.

    3) things are in stock for anyone to buy 😅

    4) When direct storage api is out.

    • Probably have to wait until late 2021 for all the boxes to be ticked

      • yes… specially the last one.

  • +1

disappointed to see the 6800 priced higher than the 3070. 6800/3070 and the 6700XT/3060 would be the bracket I was expecting to be extremely competitive since its such a big market.

oh well, will just have to wait to see how the 6700/XT pricing goes.

Upgrading from a GTX970, it's a win either way but was hoping I didn't have to pay double what I paid the 970 for.

    • +2

Right there with you mate, I know inflation is what it is, but these GPUs seem to go up in price for the same performance gains just like tax does on ciggies. Non-linear.

Gamers getting too rich these days, pushing up the acceptable price.

      • Gamers getting too rich these days, pushing up the acceptable price.

Even the price of those new consoles! Geez.

    • +1

it has 16gb vram + advantage of ryzen 5000’s direct vram access. Could be a game changer.

    • +2

Upgrading from a GTX970, it's a win either way but was hoping I didn't have to pay double what I paid the 970 for.

Same boat as you and dbmitch. Wonder if the price rises are more because of production costs or if it's more that the market is more mainstream now and thus there are more customers willing to pay more cash. I'd expect otherwise with higher demand meaning they can make more money at a lower price point, but I'm not an economist in the slightest.

Whatever it is, jumping from this GTX 970 and i5 4670K is gonna feel huuuuge.

      • +5

I found the RTX20 played the big villain for the inflations

        msrp 970 was USD$329
1070 was $379 (per userbenchmark ~50% performance increase for $50)
        2070 was $499 or AUD$700 (~25% increase for $120)

        980ti was $649
        1080ti was $699 (~72% for $50)
        2080ti was $1199 (~34% for $500)

not even taking into account AIB partners slap on an extra $100 because they are better.
Then slap on another $50-$100 because of Super variants
Then slap on another $50 cos Australia
Then slap on another $50 because corona demand spike
Now the 3070 can't be cheaper than the 2070S so bam, $1000+ card.

  • Slightly overwhelmed with the choices here.

Can someone offer a TLDW for someone already in the preorder for 3080, and possibly considering the 3070? Running Ultrawide 1440 144hz and pairing with 3900x. Using a 1070ti at the moment. Should I just stay on Nvidia camp (3070/80) or get the 6800/ 6800XT?

    • -6

If you already have a 3080 on preorder I'd keep that for now since you'll likely get it first. AMD will likely have just as many stock issues as nvidia have had since they're both using the same chip manufacturer.
AMD's drivers will probably also suck for at least the first 6 months after the cards are out. It takes a while for them to become stable. So my recommendation would be to keep your 3080 order and wait 6-12 months and then consider moving to a 6800XT at that point if the real world performance tests are just as good as what they showed in the announcement.

      • +2

Isn't it made by TSMC? RTX3000 is by Samsung

      • +1

Given they are comparable based on the press release, why would you bother moving in 6-12 months? Would be completely pointless moving from a 3080 to a 6800xt…

  • +1

I'd be still going with the 3080 instead of the 6800XT , unless you're playing at 4K or not fond of ray tracing. They haven't revealed anything to do with RTX performance, or more importantly their competitor to DLSS. No games currently (other than Doom Eternal) use more than 8GB of VRAM at 4K, so while 16GB is nice, it won't be useful for most buyers.

The 6900XT and the 6800 look great though, and hopefully that means prices will be lower for everyone

  • +3

Thank you AMD for bring the top end CPU and GPU prices down. I don’t actually care who is better Intel/AMD or Nvidia/AMD. I just want to get the best items at their cheapest prices and knowing that I haven’t been ripped off big time.

  • This is a difficult choice for me.
On one hand, Nvidia's Freesync drivers don't support my monitor properly.
On the other, DLSS could mean some heavy performance boosts in certain games.
And the 6800 could get pretty expensive by the time the tax and markup is added.

  • +11

I just want to say THANKS to AMD.

People can now afford a much cheaper intel cpu than before, not because of intel itself but because of AMD.

Without AMD, I swear Intel i7-10700 would be still 4C8T as their so called high end products line, with ridiculous price no doubt. Here are each generation of intel core i7 - X700 series cpu just for a quick reference:

    i7-970 6C12T
i7-2700 4C8T(surprise! Intel reduced 1/3 cores and threads compared with 1st gen i7, and it last 7 years from 2011 until AMD Ryzen released in 2017, lmao)
    i7-3770 4C8T
    i7-4790 4C8T
    i7-5775 4C8T
    i7-6700 4C8T
    i7-7700 4C8T

Year 2017, AMD did a nice comeback, 1st Ryzen CPUs released, I know some people would say 1st gen Ryzen got a lot of issues and shortages, but not like general customer, intel knew clearly how powerful and the potential AMD can reach through Ryzen, intel gen 8, 9, 10 CPUs finally abandon 4C8T and are like ‘fire in the hole’!

    i7-7700(4C8T) = i5-8400(4C8T) = i5 9400(6C6T) = i3 10100(4C8T) roughly

Surprise! i7 becomes i3, btw i3 10100 is $180, anyone remember how much i7 7700 was and now? Or do you remember what intel cpu could you buy 3 years ago by $180? Maybe a rubbish pentium G series.

Conclusion is simple, without AMD, NVidia would do the exact same thing as intel.

    6700 pls

  • It's launch day tomorrow and no sign of stock anywhere - has anyone heard of any stores (online or retail) who is actually selling it tomorrow?

    • I was about to ask the same question…

    • Can't find any info about it. Hardware Unboxed on Youtube said there was hardly any stock in Australia, seems to be true.

    • Scorptec has a post on facebook saying they go up at 1am tonight. Zero information about pricing or what they have until then.

  • Well, will be waiting on bench marks to make a decision as I am going for the 3070 atm but the 6800 is looking nice especially if you can flash the bios to 6800XT. Only thing I can think of that would make the 3070 more valuable is for streaming because of Nvidia's software offering

  • I'm having to stay up late tonight, to try get a 6800 XT for my 10-year old son's first gaming PC. Have got everything else (grabbed a 5800x last week), so just need the card. Just gonna try get a reference card as the 3rd party AIBs won't be available for a bit longer, apparently.

    • You trolling? Hope you bought him a football as well…

      • +1

Hopefully he won't! He's had Xboxes for a while (360, then Xbox One S, then Xbox One X) and a Switch, and he's interested in becoming a YouTuber, so I'm hoping he'll share his millions with me lol.

He takes swimming classes and recently started surfing, though, so hopefully that will keep things even.

  • Got an email from PLE "AMD Radeon RX 6000 Launches Tonight! 🔥"

    https://www.ple.com.au/Radeon6000?utm_source=PLE+Computers&u…

    1am AEDT Thursday 19th Nov | 10pm AWST Wednesday 18th Nov

    Extremely limited launch stock

  • Are the reference cards usually reasonable? That is, compared to partner AIB cards? I know the partner AIBs usually have a higher clock rate, etc. but they're also usually more expensive and the base price for the reference 6800XT is about the most I'm prepared to spend.

  • what is the price for 6800 or xt

    • PLE link above…

How much will the cards cost?
Radeon RX 6800XT starting from $1049AUD*
Radeon RX 6800 starting from $949AUD*
Radeon RX 6900 XT, we don't know yet sorry, once we know and are allowed to share we will.

*These are MSRP for the reference design cards from AMD, actual prices from brands may differ. "AIB" cards from brands with their own custom card designs will differ in price, these prices will be available once the "AIB" cards are launched.

  • +1

so did anyone get one? i had 5 sites open, and each one went straight out of stock

    • Same here, man. Same here… lol

    • +1

Yeah - scorptec (Asus) - although the order is, "Awaiting Stock Availability".

      • thats the only one that didnt go straight out of stock, so i ordered a saphire, see what happens. will probably update tomorrow

        • +1

Hopefully that's not a bad thing… And hopefully order is accepted…

          • @RichardMelbourne: i went saphire, time will tell. was going to through a water block on it anyway, got some anxiety happening waiting for an update lol

            • @dadgamer: Oh, so you got one? I'm still pumping adrenaline lol - hopefully can get to sleep now although I keep checking my order status…

              • @RichardMelbourne: not sure yet, im still waiting for warehouse, but the order was accepted by scorptec in an update, so will have to wait and see still, more talking about not worrying about aesthetics, as i have plans to water cool anyway.

      • Same…Scorptec ASUS 6800xt, Status: "Awaiting Stock Availability"

      • I imagine these listings will go down soon, as they're not getting anymore of the reference cards post-launch.

    • +1

i managed to put an order in via mwave (Asus).
      Fingers crossed.

      • Cancelled by mwave

    • Same here.
PLE came up and saw the "add to cart" but they all were "out of stock" on checkout.
Then PCCG, NewEgg, MWave, Scorptec, etc

  • Can't believe I managed to pickup a Sapphire XT from Scorptec.

    • +1

did you get confirmation? I noticed when i orderd it had a note saying all orders would be checked, one per person, orders taht didnt go through would be refunded yadda yadda yadda. when i had finished, it changed to the standard no stock, 1-3 days after receiving from warehouse, so fingers crossed

  • +1

Quite a few reviews came out overnight for the RX 6800 XT. It scored better/equal/lower than the RTX 3080 for 1080P/2K/4K respectively. I guess my next GPU would be RX 6800 XT or RTX 3080 whichever is cheaper.

It is disappointing that the RX 6800 is only $100 cheaper than the RX 6800 XT. The prices are too close to choose the lower spec card so RX 6800 is not really an option.

    • +1

I know right, AMD has lost their minds on that price point for the 6800 it should be something like $799-849 but it could also be that its priced so people don't buy it so they have supply available to counter the 3060Ti/3070 with a price drop.

  • Nothing left sad face

  • I hope there's another round of reference cards, as these will most likely be the only ones that can fit in Small Form Factor cases, and perform well.

  • Well, looks like i missed out, as it says waiting stock availability. So im going to ask for a refund and will try again when the aibs come out. Sad face

    • Where did U order from?

    • You might not have. I think that's just that the stock is at the supplier and they're waiting to confirm they can actually assign it to you (and me and others)

  • fingers crossed i guess. I got my order in at scorptec. I guess im just being too impatient lol

  • Im glad Scorptec did not put up the listings exactly at 1:00. Kept refreshing until I saw the listings appear and place and order at 1:08PM.

I dont know why the MSI is priced 20$ higher on scorptec though.. Has reportedly lower clocks too on the description.

Got myself the Sapphire as well.

    • Could you please share your order event log

      Mine says

      Order placed MEMBER 19-11-2020, 01:10

        • Damn, 1:12 & 1:16. That doesn't look good for me :( I had everything ready to go then they swapped my billing and delivery addresses around so I had to manually change them, then credit card payment went down so I had to change to Paypal…

          • @RichardMelbourne: Order placed MEMBER 19-11-2020, 01:09
            Order placed SCORPTEC 19-11-2020, 01:16

i think this puts me in good standing :)

            • @dadgamer: Looking good, I think we all will get it since looks like all of our order were manually processed by scorptec at 1:16, and hope they have done it keeping expected stock in mind, also what card did you guys ordered?

              • @ozbdude: i went for the saphire, not that there is any difference. plus i have plans to go open loop with the money from selling my gtx 1080, so looks arent critical

              • @ozbdude: Asus 6800 XT

Most 3070 are still asking for more than $1000. People will get the 6800 xt instead.

    • I can't see why those who are not RTX 3000 early adopters would get 3080 over 6800 xt as well. The 6800 xt destroys both.

Very impressive 4K results. Well above 60fps in the most demanding games like Metro. 60fps in 4K becoming standard and cheaper.

And AMD GPUs age well, so even better perfomance in future.

      • I would honestly consider the 6800xt but it's a bit too thick for my SFF case. Is there one <45mm thick? The 3080 is much closer to 2 slots which is ideal in my situation. Ray Tracing is also better on the 3080 and the DLSS works well.

Price to performance wise the 6800xt is very good though. Here's a good review/comparison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bKaJDbKVt0

      • +2

It’s all on price. If the market prices align with their rrp which is only US$50 difference, I will still get a 3080

        • Cheers, You are right. I was using current PCCaseGear prices where 6800 xt currently at least AU$300 cheaper than 3080. That's where I usually shop.

And the AMD cards are reference, there will be AIBs in a couple weeks and they will cost more, putting them on par with 3080.

So it's a matter of what features one wants and can do without. I'm getting 6800xt as I'm getting Ryzen 9 CPU.

  • UMart accepts "pre-order" on their site.
Probably a losing game as they will probably cancel or not be able to fulfill orders.

Hopefully I can join the successful AMD6000-purchasers on the battlefield soon :')

    • Not even accepting anymore

    • Update*

Received a cancellation on my order for the 6800 XT from UMart.
Said they can only fill a small percentage of orders and a refund will be processed.

  • update : my scorptec oreder 15953** didnt make the cut, not even close, so teh only people with a chance are those in the 15952** range.

ohwell, now to wait for AIB

    • welp, mines 15953xx too. whats the number after 3?

did you get a cancellation email?
