Help with New Gaming Laptop

I've decided to bite the bullet and buy a new gaming laptop and I've my eye set on the Metabox Alpha-X NH77DE found here:
https://www.metabox.com.au/store/b296/Metabox-Alpha-X-NH77DE…

I've made a few alterations to the stock 17" model and wanted to run it by Ozbargain brains trust for any glaring faux pas, as I'm not particularly savvy;
I swapped out:
-8GB DDR4 2666MHZ memory => 16GB DDR4 2666MHZ (2 x 8GB)
-Western Digital Blue 250GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD => Kingston A2000 1TB PCIe NVME M.2 SSD

At $1677 I've stretched the budget by $200-300 and I found I can get it $20 cheaper at kongcomputers

Here's the specs from metabox, I'd like to hear your thoughts :)

Intel Core i7-10750H 6-Core
NVIDIA GTX 1650Ti 4GB GDDR6
17.3" FHD IPS-Grade Edge-to-Edge Matte 144Hz
16GB DDR4 2666MHZ (2 x 8GB)
Kingston A2000 1TB PCIe M.2 SSD
No 2nd M.2 SSD Selected
No Hard Drive Selected
Intel 9462 AC Dual Band WIFI/BT
No External Optical Disc Drive Selected
No Operating System Selected
2 Year Metabox Premium Care

  • Is this urgent or can you wait? I saw rumours/leaks swirling on reddit of the nvidia mobile graphics cards. Considering the jump in desktop gpu's it may be worth waiting.

    • It isn't urgent, I was considering waiting to see if there's a better deal during Black Friday sales. Are you suggesting i get a pc? Portability isn't an issue for me (hence the 17") but not interested in a pc at this stage.

    $1700 for 1650Ti - Yowza!

    • do you think it's too much for the system overall tho? I have gtx 1060 maxq so i figured the 1650ti would be about the same in performance, tho i don't fully understand the intricacies.

        you're spending money to have the exact same performance?

        Im just surprised at how much a gaming laptop costs. I built a desktop PC for the same price with a 2070 Super last year.

        • the graphics card never caused me any problems I'm quite happy with it. I should have prefaced this with the reason I'm buying a new laptop.
          My current Dell G5 15 5587 is constantly overheating. I recently decided to install a bunch of updates suggested to me by the dell software, and it installed a bios update that patched undervolting. The bios can no longer be downgraded, so I'm stuck with a machine that can't run most games without frying itself.

          I'd be happy with the same level of performance but I'm definitely not buying a dell again. This system has better cpu,ram,bigger screen, larger ssd and presumably much better cooling.

  • What about this one? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/576416
    If it's over the budget a G5 could be at your price

    • As I've said in my answer to Fergy, Dell is anathema

      • Yeah that's fair then. Maybe it's a personal thing, my D3 bought at $899 has been the best purchase I've made recently.

  • I can vouch for Metabox, my GTX 1060 laptop is still going strong over 3 years later (also bought through Kongcomputers)
