            @jasswolf: Response time of 19ms isn't ideal for a 144hz panel either, but I'm still considering the zephyrus G14 with 120hz 1080p panel and I beliebe it's worse at 20ms or more.

        72% NTSC corresponds to about 99% sRGB, so while not the best or perfect, the screen does not seem to be too bad.

          Fair enough, I should have looked deeper into the specifications, but we've been seeing a spate of laptops recently using a panel that's typically rated at 72-78% sRGB:

    3 weeks into owning my G7 and its ok.

    Overheating is real, 90+ degrees + on both CPU and GPU while playing games.

    5 blue screens of death from overheating.

    Throttle stop app is my only option to stop this.

    No bracket or screws for the second drive.

    Not sure I can recommend.

      Dissapointing that overheating is an issue because its a great price for the specs. Lots of google entries mention the overheating as well.

      Would a laptop cooling stand help? I bought a laptop stand with fans for my Legion 5pi and the fans seem to be less stressed. Might improve your experience. This is the one I got:

      Yeah, I've got a G7 with the 2070 Max-q and it's loud as. The fans ramp just sitting at the desktop and do anything it gets even louder. But I use it as my VR rig, so for that purpose it doesn't bother much as I'm not next to it. But if I use it as a gaming PC or even just browsing the internet, it's far too noisy.

      I got those temps until I turned off CPU Turbo Boost in the bios. Also in the NVIDIA control panel you can apply settings per individual game such as thermal/power performance to maximum.
      I used MSI afterburner to adjust the GPU as per guides.
      My temps hover between 65-75° when gaming. This includes Metro Exodus with Ray Tracing on.

      Fans are loud but that's with most gaming laptops. Wearing headphones negate it.

        Pretty much this. I bought one in the last deal and had heating issues initially, but with cpu turbo off and GPU adjustment it is now very stable and has good thermals. Fans can get loud at times when i game but i game with a headset on so only really notice it when i take them off. I also now use it as my daily work machine and it doing that it isn't noticeably loud.

      Need to install throttlestop. I've undervolted my CPU and set the max multiplier to 3.5Ghz and my fps has greatly improved and the fan is quieter.

      I'm surprised that Throttlestop actually manages the temps well. I would believe the overheating would derive from the powerful GPU in this laptop instead of the CPU. I have the 9th gen version of that CPU in my Dell, and I don't have any issues with heating

      Another thing you can do is repaste the CPU and GPU with high quality thermal paste. I did it with my Alienware m15 and it improved the temperatures

      I bought this Inspiron laptop from the last sale and am still waiting for shipment… Chose this because of the weight and the aluminium body.

      I previously had the G7 17 which I ended up returning. I don't like the plastic body and find the RGB keyboard somewhat redundant.

    Even if this was priced at $1500, considering being a ex owner, i still wouldn't recommend anyone to buy this laptop, the constant frame drops from +90 fps down to less than 15fps within five minutes of playing any game at any graphics settings frustrated the hell out of me to the point of returning my unit

    The plagued engineering design of this laptop completely bottlenecks the full capabilities of these amazing specs, undervolting the CPU and disabling turbo boost just to keep thermals reasonable was an absolute deal breaker alone

    (Imagine owning a car that can hit +100kms per hour but you can only go a top speed of 80km to prevent it from overheating, same ideology but more ridiculous haha)

        Probably but it's not the fix it claims to be at least of the G5 se amd version (it didn't for me)

        It also doesn't fix the poor screen design on the g series in general which warps the LCD due to no metal frame and being taped in.

        The screen has massive yellow spots on the bottom right/left hand corners which can be seen on colours besides black and gets worse over time.

        Unless the hardware has been redesigned in the last 2 months I'd avoid this model too unless you are happy to deal with the issues of the g series in general and the ones reported with this model.

      Nope. To be fair, the laptop is fine for me. Just Dell's support which sucks since they weren't willing to support the earlier batches that lacked the M2 bracket. So much trouble.

    Laptops aren't meant to overheat, just in case some people didn't know.

    Just to add another data point: the one example I've seen has been perfectly fine; no need to underclock or turn off turbo boost or lock the GPU (in fact the GPU overclocked to within 5% of a stock desktop RTX 2070 in 3Dmark Time Spy). It does get loud, about the same as other gaming laptops. I did not observe any frame drops and the temperatures stabilized at 85C for the CPU and 75C for the GPU.

    The outside of the laptop is plastic however the internal parts and the hinges are fixed to an internal aluminium frame.

    It does not come with a bracket for a second SSD - this will cost you about $20 of parts and you will most likely have to wait. Ask on online chat for spare parts sales - you need part PXNWV to fix the SSD to the chassis and KKCTR is the heat spreader, as well as two M2x4 screws.

    It looks like the early production had real problems perhaps with thermal paste and the BIOS thermal management but this is not caused by the fundamental design of the laptop. Most of the comments you see will be from people who have problems so it's hard to say how widespread it is, but make sure you test your unit thoroughly and be ready to exchange it if problems arise.

        I had a generic screw set; you can get them from eBay or Amazon.

        KKCTR has been on backorder for a long time and I'm still waiting, but that is the part number printed on the heat spreader which Dell confirmed.

    Ive got one of these, Great laptop apart from the touchpad and the keyboard. I'm having huge issues with the keyboard and mistyping etc sometimes it backspaces and jumps a line. I still haven't figured out what is causing it yet.

    I've been considering either this or Lenovo Legion 5 with Ryzen 7 and 1660ti at the same price… The rtx 2070 is really tempting and I need the 17' screen, but all comments about overheating raise a big red flag :(

      You may need to wait until Jan 2021 (based on reports in the ozbargain post here) when the ETA didn't say more than 8 weeks.

      Webiste says more than 8 weeks now so who knows when you will get it.

      If it was the same price or close to on the public website is be buying it and told lenovo as such the 2799 price is a joke.

    I've only just read about some of the overheating issues with the G7 model and I'm pretty surprised.
    I bought the last gen G7 17-inch and looking at the differences in design, it looks like the new one is a lot thinner and obviously has issues with dealing with the thermals of the components.
    This is as opposed to the last gen which is a lot thicker and can deal with the amount of heat coming through. Really glad I bought that late last year, I've been gaming on it including VR without any issues.
    Always pays off to read Ozbargain comments to see how these products are!

    I had the previous version of this and it developed a fan not responding error within 6 weeks of owning it. The dell tech came out and replaced the fans and heatsink and after doing so the error came back a few days later, so he came back out and replaced the heatsink and fans again and this time the CPU fan was stuck on full speed. He ordered a 3rd heatsink and a new motherboard and CPU and came out and replaced the whole lot, only for the error to be back again within a few days. By this point dell got me to send the laptop back and they would send me a replacement unit, when I received the replacement unit and opened it up they had sent me an Alienware M15 with mostly the same specs (aside from screen size) so obviously, they had just given up on trying to fix that model.

        Practically nothing aside from the basics really like chrome, spotify and the odd game of Cricket 19 in the beginning. One day I just rebooted the laptop and got a warning screen at boot warning me of the error. When I checked the error log in the bios, the first fan error had occurred 3 days after receiving the laptop and it took 6 weeks of errors before that screen appeared. After that, I didn't do any gaming on the laptop as I was waiting for the problem to be fixed before gaming again.

    I had this in the RTX 2060 version , overheated and died within 2 months needed to be replaced under warranty, they sound like a freight train when playing games. I ended up selling it as playing games at night was keeping everyone up.

    Have had this laptop for a while now from one of the previous sales.

    I have had to undervolt and underclock GPU and CPU to get temps to be stable. Now both are around 60-70 degrees when gaming in VR with a Valve Index for comparison. So I do understand that this may not be a laptop for people who don't want to do that as the process is quite involved and of course risky.

    However in saying that, I've been quite pleased with this laptop. It's definitely not for everyone but if you're willing to do the undervolting and underclocking to get it to reasonable temperatures, I haven't had a problem running most things. It is loud as fans will ramp up under gaming loads but I use headphones while gaming so thats just my use case scenario. During Youtube and what not the fans are not noticeable.

    Of course no one should have to undervolt and underclock a laptop, it is quite stupid. So I understand those who have returned it after experiencing the overheating problems. I'm just one looking for a good deal and a bit of tinkering to get it useable for the specs seemed like a no brainer.

    Dell's gaming laptops, and generally gaming laptops have poor screens. I just got a Dell 1505 SE with 4800U & AMD 5600M. It's meant to be the latest model, but the screen is dim and dull.

    Comparing to my 5 year old Asus Laptop, the screen quality is dismal in terms of brightness, colours vibrancy, and viewing angle.
