Getting Spammed by Clive Palmer Texts

Text

I'm getting really sick of this. Is anyone else getting spammed text messages from Clive Palmer/UAP/Mineralogy/LNP? I just received the third one and it's pissing me off.

There's no way to opt out of receiving them and the message is a straight up lie about "Labor's 20% death tax" which I searched and found nothing about it. I've never given my personal information to anything related to UAP or any other political party campaign, so how did they get my number?

I blocked the first number and then they spam me with another number, I also remember they did this exact same thing last federal election as well. Another thing is I've also changed my number since the last election so I have no idea how they got this number so easily.

How is this not illegal? Spamming misinformation to thousands of people with no way to opt out, surely there has to be a law against it.

Also at this point I'm never voting LNP even if they paid me, these tactics are so scummy. I say LNP and not UAP because it's obvious Palmer has no intention of actually winning any seat.

  • I keep getting email from LNP; after a dogged campaign of questioning and haranguing, I was informed that I had communicated with a LNP candidate about 10 years ago, and that my email address had been retained on file since then.
Another message today, despite me requesting last month that all my personal data be removed from all LNP databases. Makes you wonder what else they would be incompetent at?

    • It takes a lot of planning to ensure 10 year old data is not deleted. This behaviour is exactly as planned.

EDIT: Easiest and sanest route might be to set up filters to delete automatically.

  • Similar thing when I applied for a postal vote, started getting propaganda from both sides labour/libs to my email and also a text from the libs. They have all had opt out/unsub options but I don't think they should be allowed to send all this crap just because I signed up for a postal vote. Why are they allowed to dish my personal data out to be marketed to?

    • Strange, I didn't have an opt out… I kept getting spammed by the Premier.

Pretty sure political parties are given a list of those who have applied for a postal vote with their details. Political Parties get access to the electoral roll with details anyway, and it's not illegal to send materials to voters.

    We're Not Gonna Take It

Vote for Labour that'll show him! Oh….wait………

    How is this not illegal?

Registered political parties are exempt from the spam laws. Here's what the ACMA have to say about it:

Some organisations can send you marketing messages without permission, but must still include their contact details in the message.

    These include:

    registered charities
education institutions contacting you as a former or current student
    government bodies
    registered political parties

The false claims are probably illegal though…

So I'm gonna get spammed every election by Clive Palmer and there's nothing I can do about it. Fantastic…

    • And I think it will get worse over time. Plenty of religious organisations are registered charities. Wait till they start proselytising.

I love how Clive Palmer masquerades as nationalistic and pro Australian yet performs the complete and utter opposite with his questionable business dealings and relationships

      Sounds like another leader.

Unfortunately he's been emboldened by similar strategies overseas. His use of the slogan "Make Australia Great" shows me that he's not even hiding his intentions and acceptance that he can make things up/misinform and get away with it.

    • Makes him a perfect political candidate to be honest.

  • Doesn't matter who you vote for, you get a liar who will back out of promises until a week before next election and then back out again, and someone there for the top end of town only.

    • Vote for whoever is not in government then

      • but you get the same thing…. another liar and someone full of shit there for top end of town.

    • They do that because of voter apathy. And subsequently the apathetic gobble up demagoguic fear mongering. The easiest play in the book

  • Maybe you can spam them back and ddos their campaign

  • Errm do we have to vote soon? I want to try and avoid receiving another fine.

Queensland vote is today I believe

  • I got three messages this week - the first was from Mineralogy which shows he's again using company funds towards his election campaign. It was impossible to reply to this message. The next two were from a mobile number that I could reply to - it's probably disabled incoming messages, but I got some small satisfaction from spamming the number all day today, every half an hour or so.
No doubt it didn't make it through to the senders but I felt a bit better anyway.

  • I wonder if spam actually gets him any votes.

    • +1

Absolutely. It won him the federal LNP government last year.

You can submit a complaint to ACMA as the messages don't comply with the Spam Act. They can investigate and issue warnings or infringements (e.g. in June this year they fined Woolworths $1million for spam emails).

Dolts have been voting for demagogues & putting them in power since Adam played full back for Jerusalem & will continue to do so.

Palmer is only for himself and his businesses

      • Ya don’t say!

  • Major inconvenience, but set up your phone to only accept calls or SMS from a pre-defined white list.
Alternatively, just keep blocking — you'll get lucky eventually.

  • Clive Palmer is not as stupid as he looks or sounds. The richest man in Queensland has got Labor to guarantee that they will never introduce an inheritance tax. The US and UK both have inheritance taxes.

  • Don't you have the option to bar the number?

    • They cycle through numbers so that they get people that already blocked them. Same as most spam calls.

I've been spammed for several days by Clive Palmer and the LNP, strangely not ALP, and I'm a strong ALP with a strong hatred of the LNP, so weird.

It's bad enough I have to deal with LNP signposts plastered everywhere on my way home.

  • Looks like all that money went nowhere for Palmer. Big victory for Labor and it looks like Palmer United Party will not get a single seat.

  • "Looks like all that money went nowhere for Palmer"

Clive Palmer got Labor to guarantee that they will never introduce an inheritance tax. I'd say he got pretty good value! They should have just promised that any inheritance tax would apply only to estates valued at over $100 million.
