The skeg that came with isnt very good and falls off very easily, just be aware of it. Online reviews showed a few have voiced out the experience like me, and also found modified skeg available from eBay as well, seem the problem is pretty widespread.

I've got the challenger model and haven't had any issues with the skeg. It locks in very firmly and is difficult to get out.

In an abundance of caution I probably should secure it with a bit of cord.

    • Do you have a link to the one you bought on ebay?

    • +1

I’ve heard about this issue and drilled a hole in the skeg, running fishing wire to the rear handle. As long as you make sure you push it all the way in till the clip locks, I’ve never had an issue. The line runs in handy when storing however so you don’t lose track of the skeg

  • Always scared these things will get punctured by a shark

    • +7

If a shark want to take you down, it won't matter what your kayak is made of.

        You're not helping

        • +5

At least with this it'll be over in one or two bites. With a wooden/composite kayak, whilst stronger, you have to endure the trauma and pain of seeing a shark play with its food before eating it.

Ive got the green version, works well. Just wait for a regular 30% OFF sale and or cashback before buying.

anyone know the difference between the explorer and the challenger models?

Sounds to me like the challenger is bigger and faster at the expense of weight and comfort.

      • +1

From all of the footage I have seen on youtube, Explorer has more leg room and is more stable. Challenger is supposedly little bit faster and longer in size.

      • thanks zzyss - I like that website link and their reviews seem pretty genuine (although maybe google translate being used). Usual story - pay more for an inflatable kayak and you'll get more. Still, they don't seem to mind the explorer and rank it higher than the challenger.

  • I'd like to see a deal on the Intex Excursion Pro or Bestway Ventura like costco had.

    • +1

i ordered the Excursion Pro last week from Catch. It was $319, which seemed reasonable for a good quality kayak. Seems to be selling for US$200-250 in the states. From the reviews that I have read, the Excursion has higher build quality, with 3 layer PVC construction while the Explorer/Challenger use single layer vinyl material. I was tossing between the explorer and the excursion. Explorer was $250 last week, so it made sense to pay a little more and get the excursion. Different story at this price.

  • Looks pretty good fun, perfect heading into summer - is the 90-day warranty something to be concerned with?

  • +4

I do like that they needed to add "Please note: does not come inflated" would love to have received that support call.

  • When only used by one person does it become unstable? Ie. Will be carrying some crabbing pods to middle of river

  • Thanks! 10% shopback too!

    • Dang I missed that! and 8% gift card discount(Suncorp)!

      • Damn. I’m new to catch so wasn’t prepped for discounted gift card too

        • Me too.
