  • What’s the activation date?
Last time I bought mine around Christmas last year so not quite due yet

    • Yes I would like to know this too.

      • would like to know too, might get this for my wife who prefers international calls and eSim

prefer to buy from OW with PB. so eager to know activation date.

  • Does this offer a 5G network as well?

    • +2

No I don't think so but it offers eSim though, one of the kind for prepaid.

      • Vodafone, Optus and Telstra all offer eSIM for all prepaid customers.

It's MVNOs (including Boost) that don't offer eSIM.

        • The last time I checked that Optus didn't allow eSim for prepaid, but looks like they have change of heart. Thanks for that.

          • @cloudie9: Yep, few weeks back.
I think you still have to visit a store for a swap, but it was extended to prepaid customers.

Can I get an eSIM on an Optus Prepaid service?
Yes, eSIM is available for Prepaid customers via our retail stores.

I get 5G on mine. I'm not sure if it's a mistake or not though as i wasn't expecting it.

      • if u are really F-22 you are entitled to get all the perks for free :p

      • Me too - I purchased the same SIM card early in the year and I also get 5g on it. I tested it the other day and was getting speeds of 515mbps which is not bad (although it is capable of much more from what I read).

    • My current Telstra 12 month prepaid has 5G.
Is there a reason it shouldn’t?

  • +6

    Why this over boost?

    • +3

You are 100 correct! The 240gb can be found for around the same price, heaps of more data, more international destinations. The only deal breaker would be if it offers 5g included.

      • +2

Got one yesterday at officeworks for less than 240.

        • How? Care to share the details pls.

            • @fiveferrari: So do you just walk in to local office works and show them the website page that has this deal and they knock 5% off it? Is that how it works?

Also does it have a time limit on when you can use it? Like if I buy the boost sim can I activate it next year sometime like around Easter or May?

              • @bccwjj1: Yes or you can do over the call and have them deliver it to you for free. Takes about 5 days.

Most of these packs have an expiry date, Usually one year or more but YMMV.

            • @fiveferrari: You can even call them if you address them to the right place and they’ll give you free delivery

            • @fiveferrari: Can you port a number from Telstra to Boost ?

    • +3

eSim for those who wants it on prepaid.

Telstra plans come with a free AFL Live Pass. Might be a reason for some people.

      • +1

I'm with Boost and have access to AFL Live Pass

Reading the January deal comments about people switching from post paid to pre paid - "Just call Telstra". Funny how that is now impossible only 10 months later. Is there now another method to do so?

  • If I buy this now can I use it in June 2021 when my current Telstra prepaid runs out? Or can I use it and it will just bank on my current one?

I currently have 97GB left and expiry is June 2021. As I bought this $300 12 month sim about 6 months ago.

Will it work for me in 6 months time? Or can I use it and will it just give me 18 months expiry considering I already have 6 months remaining already

    • I doubt they would stack it, I had give them a call last time in order to add the credit to my current prepaid plan. If you want to keep your number you can also port over to aldi then port back with this

    • Answer is No.

It will not recharge your current service.

Telstra has removed international roaming from prepaid. Not sure whether it will be back for free.

    https://www.telstra.com.au/support/mobiles-devices/pre-paide…

    • It says a new version will be launched mid-2021. So maybe wait until then to see if it’ll be back?

      • +1

        You never know.
Telstra might put is as an extra feature(that you need to pay) if they still see demands on the product after the removal of international roaming.

    • +2

with the current climate, don't think people need international roaming for next 1 year :)

    • It won't be FREE.

You'll need to buy a Roaming Plus Pack for cash.

Looking at OP link provided, for the same Telstra previous deals….
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/telstra-300-pre-paid-si…

The price seems to be reduced towards Xmas

    • +1

Thx for sharing, might pass now and will wait for better price.

    • +1

good point - am sure that they (Telstra pre-paid department) will be trying to 'cycle' these sales from last year.

Might be worth to hold off until later this month to mid Dec.

This is only worth it over Boost if it comes with 5G?
    Can someone please confirm?

    • eSim, Telstra plus rewards and #StayHome text on ur phone status bar :)

      • Doesn't answer my 5G question :-)

        • not really sure if u can get 5G with prepaid. one of the comment says YES

  • +1

From the time you buy it, how long do you generally have to redeem it or start using it?

    • Depends on Expiry date on the printed packaging on the back, minus 2 weeks.

Boost and Telstra expire all their SIM's two weeks before the printed expiry. You need to go the TIO to get a refund if you want to activate it on the last day.

  • Sorry im sure its been asked and answered, but the Boost offers exactly the same coverage (ex 5g) as Telstra? Im in Rural WA and need the Telstra coverage.

  • +3

$200 was a bargain. This is a bit lame.

  • +1

I am already using Telstra prepaid, can I use this card to recharge for next 12 months ?

    • Nope. What you can do is port out and back in again.

  • I purchased this for around $210 a few months ago.

    • From who please…???
      Was it from Telstra online

      • I think so

  • My local Officeworks refused to Pricematch.

    Useless.

Depends on the Manager you get at the store.

  • Does the boost "12 months" mean a full year eg 365 days… or is it 12 x 28 days?
    Thanks

  • Can confirm my Pixel 5 is showing 5G on the status bar, with this plan that I bought a while back. Mistake perhaps?

  • I'm on Telstra prepaid and I get 5G. Not sure if it's by mistake or not, but speedtest shows 500mbps+

  • 5G Network access is included on the Telstra Prepaid 6month and 12months options.
