Reckon this deal is more bang for buck than Lenovo Legion 5 15", Ryzen 7 4800H, 16GB DDR4, 512GB SSD, GTX 1660 Ti 144Hz IPS $1691.10 Delivered @ Lenovo Education Store?

    • Aching over this myself.. is ray tracing worth it with sacrifice on FPS..
AND there's Big Navi / baby 3xxx cards / Black Friday / NewYear sales coming… good time to be PC gamer but hard decisions Xp

      • I just placed an order for 1660ti model. I realised this 2060 model doesn't have a camera or microphone and I need it for work. I honestly don't think the 1660ti will get any cheaper but we'll see.

        • nice! did you remember to try the Amex deal?

          • @assarabbiya: No Amex here :( but I did check the deal. Shipment has to be before 1st December and I highly doubt it. The rep over the phone said 8 weeks minimum lol.

Don't know how you come to the conclusion that it's better bang for buck.

This laptop has a slower Intel 6 core processor vs the much faster 8 core AMD Ryzen 4800H.

        https://www.notebookcheck.net/R7-4800H-vs-i7-10750H_11677_11…

The 4800H also consumes less power than the 10750H, despite being faster. User reviews say that the 10750h it runs very hot.

The Legion 5 with the Ryzen 4800H also has one of the best cooling solutions for a laptop, so the CPU and GPU are some of the fastest you can get at that specification with very little throttling. You can set the TDP to three different settings.

This laptop lacks a webcam and microphone, so if you need those features it takes it out of the equation without a 3rd party product.

Unless you specifically need a 2060 and the hand full of RTX games it supports, the Legion 5 is a better option for an all round laptop.

Additionally considering Microsoft is utilising DXR, and Khronos group Vulkan RT for ray tracing, I think RTX will go the way of most Nvidia proprietary technology, and become a minority. You also need to consider that the consoles are AMD based and will support a more open ray tracing standard, especially for game ports.

I didn't hence I got the 1660ti. I was asking the question haha but thanks for your feedback. Now I feel better getting the 1660ti :)

        • I'm buying it for a work laptop and playing wow (Shadowlands). I think the AMD chip will be better since wow is more CPU reliant.

        • I would say DLSS is a more important feature than raytracing on RTX cards. If you wanted to play a 2019/20 AAA title on ultra at >60FPS, you should get an RTX 2060 over a 1660Ti.

          • @RC13: What about wow shadowlands or upcoming Diablo 4?

            • @Reggii: Those both should run fine on a 1660Ti, depending on your resolution.

        • Not sure your sources but both AMD and Intel models have a Webcam.

          • @julz15: What link are you looking at because under Camera is says no camera or microphone for this laptop on the Lenovo site. Also look at the specs posted earlier where it says the same.

            • @shellshocked: My bad. 8 was looking at the legion 5i with the same Intel processor and rtx 2060 video card. That has Webcam. Didn't realise there was a PI range as well.

              • @julz15: I’m keen about the intel version with 2060. Thinking whether I should cancel my 1660ti and just get this one considering delivery will be in 2 days. I saw many reviews about thermal issue on the i7 though.

                • @Reggii: Are these reviews of the i7 chip or the actual legion 5i model with the i7. Reviews I've read seem to indicate decent thermals on the legion

                  • @julz15: I think they’re reviews on the i7 chip in general.

          • @[Deactivated]: You are comparing an Intel 6 core CPU to one of the top performing Amd 8 core processors, and saying there is not much difference. I think you need to check the benchmarks.

            https://www.techspot.com/review/2018-amd-ryzen-4800h/

No point having an 80wh battery if the six core Intel generates more heat and consumes more power than the 8 core Ryzen, hence having less battery life.

Also both deals are education, so if you have a genuine edu address you will have acess to a free copy of Windows 10 education. This negates the need for Windows 10 pro, because Win edu is better features than Pro.

It also lacks a webcam and microphone. So if you need this, like a lot of us, you need to buy a 3rd party webcam.

Only get it if you really need a 2060.

  • hopefully this comes down on the actual lenovo store and we get increased cashback rates
