  • Is the power only for charging or can you plug this in and play as well as remove the cable and just use it on battery mode?

      Thanks for saving my $15

    • thanks. Saved me $15

tldr - bad design, cheap plastic, control pad unresponsive

Don't forget the cpu lag and choppy sound.

I have a few of these different sort of things, and they are almost universally terrible.

    • Thanks !! Got tempted but i got this imp info, Saved $15.

I get it, I really do…. But… You're getting a gaming device for the cost of a big mac meal and sundae. You really can't expect much.

      • I'd rather the Mac meal and sundae over this anytime going by that video

Probably still good enough for a 6 year old.

I feel that kids these days won't appreciate 8bit or 16bit gaming eras :(

      • +1

same. If they have been exposed to mobile phone games, then they will probably not like these, otherwise, might be a good intro to gaming for them. I would love to do this for my daughters in the future. Here is a dad that did it with all consoles, interesting read: https://kotaku.com/father-makes-son-play-through-video-game-…

What 6yo doesn't have an iPad?

    • Kids will hate old games like these.

was gonna buy this then realised i have a 3DS i never play haha

  • Thanks for the review link dont want nephews impression of 8 bit games to go any worse

Spend the $90 on a retroid pocket 2 if you’re at all interested otherwise pass

    • +1

Or get a used DSi for $40-60 and homebrew it. Slap in a SD card and off you go.

      • True, but it won’t play PSX or Dreamcast or N64 games will it?

        • Im comparing it to this 8bit console which i doubt will play either of those.

      • +2

I'd say a used 2DS is the sweet spot now. Just got one for $50, got it homebrewed and filled with classic games within an hour

..Then I stuck it in a drawer lol

        • Haha I was planning to do that to my old 3DS and my wife's barely ever used 2DS (my dream of getting her into playing Nintendo with me back when we wer dating never quite came to fruition) but then I couldn't be bothered lol.

  • These are not good for kids at all. Kids aren’t into old retro games it’s the parents that are.

why people voting "+" for this deal if this is not good at all?
just created my account so I can't do it, but everyone who saw a review, why not to press "-" ? not everybody reads the comments, but seeing 10-15 negative, will make people not buy it

    • +1

Generally a negative vote is saved for when the deal is available cheaper elsewhere, counterfeits etc

I think people don't expect much for $15 so it gets a pass.

      • -1

So if it is a bad quality and not worth $15 it still gets a pass?

        • +1

Well people upvoting do think it's worth $15 I guess.

          • @Merlict: here are the comments :
            "Thanks for saving my $15"
"Kids will hate old games like these."
"These are not good for kids at all. Kids aren’t into old retro games it’s the parents that are."
"Thanks !! Got tempted but i got this imp info, Saved $15."

to me at least 4 people don't think it worth it, so press the "-" button.

            Even more now:
"tldr - bad design, cheap plastic, control pad unresponsive"
"Don't forget the cpu lag and choppy sound."
"I have a few of these different sort of things, and they are almost universally terrible."

Now it is 7 negative as far as I can see

            • +3

@Den1ska: Again, that's simply not what negative votes are for here. Otherwise you'd have people downvoting things they don't personally like into oblivion (ie Apple products)

If you can find this cheaper on Ebay etc, that's fine to downvote. Don't want one yourself, just move on with life.

            • @Den1ska: Grain of salt for many comments you see in OzB. Many will make a “troll” remark. I’m no saint either XD.
