Fedex Lost My Parcel

Good afternoon OzB,

I had a parcel sent from Europe by FedEx last month and it got all the way to Melbourne before it got lost some how by FedEx/TNT.
After about a 10 days of TNT having a search about, it can't be found…

I am wondering is there anything I can do now? FedEx/TNT are fairly useless and don't want to tell me much at all.
I'd rather them try to find the package as it happens to have an item that is quite expensive and is very hard to find; I can't just replace it like any random product, it's a vintage item.

Is there any government body I can complain to? To be honest I doubt anyone has even searched for the package - I was told multiple times I would be called ASAP to keep me updated with the process but every time I've had to call back after waiting for days, how can I know they actually had a search when they can't even keep a promise to call?
I suppose it might be just the busy period but they all sound very uninterested.

If I do start the claims process and say a month later it is found in some FedEx employee truck, do I get the parcel or is it auctioned off to help pay their claims process they are probably handing out all the time? I asked this question to FedEx but they didn't seem to want to answer this for some unknown reason.

As you can imagine I am pretty salty about the situation.
How do you lose such a big heavy box(7 Kg)? Makes me want to go to the Hallam depot and ask to have a looksy in the undelivered mail but I'd doubt I'd be allowed. It was probably stolen anyway?

Thanks,

Angus M'Iver

Complain to the Postal Industry Ombudsman FedEx Australia is a registered operator.

Thanks for the suggestion. I feel there is nothing I can do now and there's no point in adding a bad review, they already have more than enough!

Do it anyway, you'd be surprised as to what happens once the ombudsman gets involved. I got AusPost to compensate me the full value of the items lost as opposed to the "standard" $50 when the parcel is not insured. If there isn't a satisfactory outcome the operator gets fined.

        • Wish I knew about this when they lost my iphone I sold in the post

          • @jackinyourbox: The postal ombudsman website has good example scenarios that list what they can't get away with…. An interesting read.

    • The PIO doesn't have any enforcement powers. All they'll do is to record the complaint and reply with too bad, too sad.

      • The PIO is a government entity with powers to fine the operator (at least the registered operators, main ones being AusPost, Star Track, FedEx). At least that's what the dedicated agent from AusPost told me when I asked why they wanted me to clearly state that I was satisfied with the outcome.

        • The Auspost rep is wrong. The PIO is an ombudsman with no powers.

We can recommend an outcome or action, but we are not a court or tribunal. We cannot direct a postal operator to take a particular action or decision.

          • @whooah1979: Well there is nothing else I can do so I might as well give it a shot. Maybe if they get enough complaints they can take action.
The hard part is putting in a complaint to FedEx first. I've rang and emailed to ask for the case officer to call back but he just ignores me. The customer support is beyond appalling.

  • welcome to fedex online support on ozb

  • Unfortunately, these things happen. The parcels go through so many places and get mixed with so many other parcels. It can end up anywhere.

… as it happens to have an item that is quite expensive and is very hard to find

Was it insured so you can at least get something back?

Only partly. The full amount wasn't put on the customs form so I will lose a bit of cash which doesn't really bother me, I just want what I bought. I was really excited until nothing was delivered on the estimated delivery date…

It would be easier to accept if I knew it was truly lost, right now I feel no one has actually tried to go and find it. The call up support (both TNT and FedEx) has been abysmal.

  • tnt had me in loop for my Mac Pro for 30 days, its coming today BS and everyday same things on-board with driver for delivery and if ask can I pick from depo! well yes we will setup a request for that! TNT! is BS!

Just use a paperclip to somehow get it delivered.

I know how you feel and things get lost and often they are out of control. This is why insurance exists.

quite expensive and is very hard to find; I can't just replace it like any random product, it's a vintage item.

Claim it on the insurance. The item must not have been that valuable if you didn’t insure it.

The item was worth more than the money for me. Not only that I but I got it for a very good price that won't happen again so there is also that.

  • cast away 2

  • FedEx have all the fancy computer systems and stuff, how can they lose something. Maybe it's been a while since I've seen those ads and their computers aren't so fancy anymore.

  • I can remember that DHL lost my parcel and I eventually received it 3 months later lol.
So they may be some hope!

This happened to me, too! A few years ago I bought something from the States, tracking showed it hopping all over the place before going to Austria (I assumed the seller had misspelled Australia) and then tracking just stopped. Ended up getting a refund from the seller, but about 4 months later the parcel just showed up on my doorstep! And they had spelled Australia correctly, so not sure why it got a 'round the world trip, but it was nice to get it, finally!

      • and of course you did the right thing and refunded the refund to the seller?

        • +1

          I did, actually.

          • @ChocStrawberries: I can only hope that happens.
It's been really disappointing so far with FedEx. The case officer I have from the start has been very hard to get in contact with, they even would hang up on me after the operator transferred me to them. That was at the start of the inquiry and I was just asking what was happening as the tracking shows it has sat in one place for days on end, I wasn't being annoying or attacking.

            • @Macgyver: That's frustrating! I hope it shows up for you, too - sooner rather than later. :)

              Keep us posted. (Pun intended.)
