Amazon has a Black Friday sale on the iRobot Roomba 530. Sale price is $249.99 + shipping. Shipping to NSW in my case costs $39.24. I've had my Roomba for 3 years now & can recommend a Roomba if you have timber/tile floors (not sure about carpet). This is the cheapest I've ever seen this Roomba on sale for.

  • I thought Amazon doesn't ship electronics to non-US customers ?

    • I remember having this issue a while back also. Looks like things have changed as I was able to add to my cart & do the final review before paying with no probs.

from the listing - Shipping: This item is also available for shipping to select countries outside the U.S.

  • So what are you options to deal with the power supply for a US model?

  • +1

hm is it worth paying the extra $80 or so (approx $380 in store negotiated) for local warranty?

  • Are these designed to take 240V?
Is it just a matter of using a power adapter converter?

  • +1

US power supply only. No deal.

    • +1

+AU$24 for a stepdown transformer from eBay makes it all up about AU$340.

      • +4

Careful those eBay transformers may actually transform into something such as a big fire.

        • How is a stepdown transformer any more dodgy than any other power pack from China (i.e. virtually anything else you buy).

The seller is an Aussie with over 150,000 sales and offers a warranty. He's sold about 1,000 of the transformers with the current add.

  • I would rather a Aust model with Aust power and Aust Warranty.

I really wanna get one of these but does it really clean well? Does it get under you dinning table? in the corners? What about this - does it do you dinning area and then work its way to the front door and then down the hallway to the laundry? All tile area

    • Have a look at the videos posted on you tube.

Fairly good, in fact - pretty darn awesome. We got three floors
and not having to vacuum an entire floor saves lots of time.
It also generally keeps the area clean if that makes sense.

roomba + dog poo = disaster

      • loooool

They don't like fireplaces either - especially if there's a fire in it at the time.

I have the Roomba 560, bought from States. Also bought a cut-down transformer cost $30 from ebay. Been using for 2 over years. Works a treat.

^2nd that, bought one in the states as well super cheap. There's a company in Brisbane which does the conversion for you! I got mine done and it's been working for 2 years+ as well. They say it's $59.99, but if you give them the US one in exchange, they give you half-price or something like that. http://aurobo.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=21_28&products_i…

    • if you have to pay an extra $30-$60 for a power pack then you might as well just get an australian version with local warranty (hi tech toys are probably going to need this).

      • +1

I beg to differ, bought mine in the US for $180 AUD (Costco sale) and that was for the 550, not the 530. Assuming you use your ozbargain powers and it's super-effective, 410-210 = $200 savings? Worth it? Hell yeah!

  • I think there's a thread on whirlpool that has a link to a site that has instructions to modify the powersupply to suit our 240v. Parts needed are very cheep, just need to be game to modify it.

  • Hows does the Samsung & LG ones goes against this brand seeing they are in the $800 range

  • I already have a roomba, its awesome for what it is. My question tho is would the docking station I have (aus model) work with a US model? If I can get the floor mopper cheap from US then my uncles name could be Robert.

  • Watching youtube and it does look good but how does it know if its down all the floor area? Just seems in the videos it does ramdon areas while missing some areas

    • It doesn't. But I believe the more expensive model does hold a matrix of the floor area so that it does not vacuum the same area.

  • This is not really a special as amazon always have it some reduction going on and this was the exact same price a month ago

the reason i did not do it is alot of ppl are finding this product failing especially at the 1-2 year mark so warranty will be an issue and for the sake of $60odd saving you are better off with a local and hopefully extended warranty.

IF YOU DO BUY IT make sure you get a STEP DOWN TRANSFORMER not just a converter or you will fry it, in the states they use 110V we have 240V here, the ones on ebay are quite good actually just make sure its wattage is high enough for your product.

Also i have brought lots and lots of stuff from amazon including a milwalkie 18V drill kit that goes for $1300plus in oz and got it from them for $340 and have only ever had issues for shipping to Oz with video games

Would seem to be an Aus compatible charger, even looks to have a bog standard computer style power plug so you could avoid needing to use a plug converter

  • Technically the Roomba 560 is for carpets. The Scooba is for hard floors.

EDIT I went off my memory on that one. Bad move. Roomba vacuums both hard floor and carpet, Scooba mops (well the advertising says "prep, wash, scrub and dry"s with a water+vinegar solution) hard floors.

    • Thanks so much for the cleaning/maintenance tips, very helpful.

    • So would it be ok in an open plan area? I.e. hallway ,living/dining room etc

  • -2

too bad it doesnt travel well going downstairs -___-"

  • Would one of these do all of my tiled area?

  • hi guys - how did you figure out that the power supply is not compatible with ours?
i've put quite a few US wall chargers into our sockets here and all i needed was a plug converter, i've not had to use a transformer so far

  • Wow. $A599 from the official distributor here

I actually think the 560 is a bigger bargain
