For anyone purchasing these to use with Home Assistant, don't bother! Tuya has updated the firmware on them and you can no longer use tuya-convert to flash them. I have a box of these unused collecting dust. They have been added to the New PSK wiki

    • thanks, was just about to ask about home assistant integration

    • That is exactly what I wanted them for, appreciate the heads up

    • localTuya also does not work?

    • Would the hardware method still work for getting Tasmota on to these plugs?

      • It should, but from what I read online, they are difficult to pry open without damaging them. I usually flash them with Tuya-Convert OTA then flash them with the ESPhome firmware.

    • thanks mate, i've been eyeing this.. it's a shame you can't do it now.

    • I can confirm you are correct. It does not allow Google home assistant to control it.

      • What do you mean?? Tuya smart life works with Google Home Assistant, If it doesn't work with Google assistant (via Google Nest mini, or Google home app) I'd have to cancel my order.

  • Which brand is this?

    • One Shop But Kogan is selling these ( Something like How third party sellers sells on Amazon, I believe its just like that).

it should work with Tuya Smart Life App

  • The other lowest-priced Smart Plugs were all around the $10 mark that went up quickly And none of them had an energy monitoring feature, And usually even these would go for 15$ or higher

    Mistral $10 From Auspost https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/543421
    Tp link $9.95 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/557764

    These are expired deals BTW

  • I just opened my box today and can confirm it works with Tuya Smart Life

    • Could you also please tell if the packaging came with like 4 boxes or just 1 box?
Like i mean 4 plugs in 1 box, or 4 plugs in 4 boxes ?

      • +1

The box contains 4 smart plugs and each of them is packed with simple package. I wouldn't call it as an individual box.

    • Hi irreplaceable, do you know if the wifi control also controls the two USB ports (either independently or together) or does it just do the mains plug (or the whole thing on or off).

      Thanks!

      • The app only controls the main plug, it does not have a separated control for the 2 USB.

  • Can someone confirm if these plugs will work with Google Assistant or not ? I just did an order for 4 of them and i really want to use Google Assistant to turn on some lights / appliances at home.

    Thanks for help

    • They are advertising it is compatible with Google assistant. Im asking for refund if it doesn't work.

But as far as i know all tuya smart shall work fine with Google or Alexa i personally have a lot of tuya smart stuff they all work with Google no problems

    • +1

I've had 4 of these for 12 months, they're extremely reliable and fully compatible with google assistant ecosystem and routines and voice commands.

      • +1

Hey how did it connect with google assistant? It's not showing me the plug in the google home app to me. Only shows in the smart life app

        • I'm having the same problem @Dcgogna have you had any luck adding them?

          • @raphtam: Yup i couldn't get alexa/ google contacted kogan support they helped me get free shipping label. And i have put complaint against the kogan market place seller ONESHOP

Will post the plugs back to them and get my refund hopefully in cash otherwise might have to get the Kogan brand ones if given store credit but will demand cash refund

        • I have got in touch with One Shop for comment. From the research I have done, if the option for Third-party Control and Google Assistant does not show in the device settings within the Smart Life app, then they are not supported. And if this is the case I'll be mighty pissed.

          • @raphtam: Im not sure what you mean there's no option for individual device setting in the tuya smart life app

            • +1

@USER DC: Pencil icon in top right corner of the device control screen.

              • @raphtam: Thank you! Never realised that button was there. Sadly enough i cannot see Google /alexa is that settings section. But getting my money back after they received this item back

          • @raphtam: Seems a bit hit and miss a lot of the kogan stuff?
Thinking there are too many different smart devices and apps around, may settle for the bunnings grid connect plugs perhaps.

            • @G-rig: Very much so. The seller has at least responded to my query and offered a partial refund equal to half the amount paid. I will accept this just for the sake of convenience.

I have 2 grid connect plugs and they work great. Only complaint is they're a little bulky

              • @raphtam: True, it's a bit pointless when the plugs are so fat they block the outlet next to it.

            • @G-rig: So true that i was gonna buy the kogan branded smart plugs but now i thinking of leaving it because of such a poor experience and false advertisement on Kogan

              • @USER DC: UPDATE: my plugs randomly showed up in the Google Home app! Going back into the Smart Life app I can confirm that Third Party Control is showing up in the individual plug setting pages! No idea how, neither the Home or Smart Life apps were updated, but eventually connecting and working well

                • @raphtam: Aw shut yeah in mine as well, just now.
                  It wasn't showing up before.
Lucky me was in lockdown due to which i couldn't go out.
Will tell one shop that i don't want to return it now
Can confirm working with both alexa and google now.
For Google just poped up, for alexa had to rediscover devices from tuya

                • @raphtam: Honestly feel so good that due to lockdown hadn't returned it yet otherwise would have returned on first day of getting it

                  • @USER DC: And says compatible with google and alexa in device settings too now

Anyone able to recommend any surge protector / smart power boards that work with Google home? I know the bunnings Arlec Grid ones do and are probably a good price compared to fancier/energy monitoring brands (Tp-Link / Phillips etc)?

I've got one of those old crest power boards with a master outlet, 2x always on and rest peripherals (which are off is master off). Don't know if a smart plug in the master would turn everything on (including voice control)? It's real handy for this DAC (audio box) and 2x powered speakers and chromecast audio come on as well (the speakers have their own power switches). I need another powerboard anyway so could use this one for the Pc instead if there was something else to get.

    Cheers

    • Did you have a look at kogan smart power board??

Its like 39.99$ with kogan first and free shipping with kogan first.

Just make a new account if you had used trial before

        • Cheers looks pretty good, guess would want a few more outlets and dont really need the usbs (would be sitting in entertainment cabinet (tv, soundbar, soundbar sub, chromecasts, tv.. wouldn't mind surge protector for modem & router. most of those things could be 'always on' but just control the other devices.

Is first a one off, I seemed to have it last time i logged in and bought something

Just want toe make sure two other plugs come on if the main one is etc, or a routine so they all on/off easily

          Thanks

          • @G-rig: If you want more power outlet one.
Im not sure but if that was me I'd be looking at a normal power board with many outlets and connecting them to the one shop smart plugs.

Obviously need to consider if all the smart plugs can fit in the larger smart board. Plus as a bonus you can use that smart plug anywhere else too in case you need to.

            But as always upto you

            • @USER DC: Yes was thinking just get another normal surge protector powerboard with 6-8 and may be better value to get a 4 pack of arlec grid connect single Smart plugs for $60 From Bunnings. The Kogan smart powerboard in one spot may be a waste.

Could always run a power board off the single Smart plug too.

Not sure if stuff like tv and soundbar on standby uses much power the Chromecast should wake it up I think hmm

              Thanks

                • +1

@USER DC: Thanks for the links, interesting

What are the 'one shop smart plugs' you mentioned before?

I'm thinking a normal power board with separate smart plugs are the way to go and use a few around the house.

Ps. When i added these kogans to cart it is still $50.95. They don't look too wide @4.3cm and probably able to get two side by site.

                  • @G-rig: Yes but still just check.your powerboard 43mm can be too wide for some powerboards. Usually not (not for mine at least)
By one shop plugs, i mean those that are attached to this ozbargain page deal

    • I personally would avoid buying it

      Two reasons

No energy monitoring (not a that big issue)

To wide hence prevent plugging in other things in a powerboard.(a big issue)
because if you got 3 plug powerboard, (you'll only be able to use 2 plugs)

Otherwise if planning for wall outlet plugging rather than plugging into power boards seems a good price.

Just consider the delivery price too ( 9.99 i believe but shopping square often have no shipping fee specials sometimes)

  • Back to 50.95 dollars

    • Should be some black friday sales soon you'd think

  • Do you guys think a single Smart plug into that master slot powerboard would Work for turning The slaves on and Off?

    Cheers
