only price that beats other places is the base model 11" macbook air, crappy sale

    • true, going to pick up 11" air tomorrow. + GST claim at airport :)

  • Make sure you factor in 4% cashback, and perhaps there may be some deals.

Really sucks that iPod Classic isn't on special, bad enough it hasn't been upgraded or promoted at all. Wouldn't be surprised if it's discontinued entirely soon.

  • Notice you can no longer stack the epp this year either … one or the other … bit of a dud sale.

$50 itunes card for $45? Eh? Not a discount. While apple do produce good products, they are way over priced. Today's discounts still aren't a discount.

    • +2

+1, I agree with that. Very good product (never owned any theirs though) but way overpriced.

I thought if they do their BIG SALE once a year it supposed to be at least a good one (at least %30 off). I suppose they have so many buyers that they don't really need to discount that much. I wonder if these stupid sales brings them more business than ususal.

      K.

      • What about the mophie iPhone cases from $90 down to $65. Jb have them for $100 pretty sure.

        • Taking the piss?

      • +2

I agree 30% is a discount, esp for a once a year sale. A once a year 10% sale tends to belittle my intelligence.

I owned a MacBook through work a few years back. OsX was a great experience and the battery life was really good. It just didn't work out as PC and Mac don't play nice. I found that when formatting word docs on the mac, I had to re-edit them (formatting, margins, etc) again on a pc. It doubled up my work.

This is equal or less than the usual 10% discount at Myets or Dick Smith. What a joke.

    • +1. better off buying from Myers when they do 10% off.

  • +1

most of these prices are normal from other retailers, no bargain here especially those itunes cards, 10% off, really??

  • As has been for the past few years, poor form and overhyped.

  • I'm certain I could get all of those items at the same price or cheaper if I went down to my local shopping centre.

  • apple stores don't have sales. everyone should know that by now.

  • +1

Seems like 10% off from competitors is still cheaper than apple direc

For a Black Friday deal this is disappointing. Yes we've waited 364 days for a deal that is not better than everywhere else.

    • Who was waiting more than a week, let alone 354 days?

  • It's a black Friday! Shame on you Apple.

    • this ^^^

  • I friend just bought an IPAD2 16 gig for 510 at JB thats still cheaper than some once a year sale.

  • It is a fact that BECAUSE apple doesn't have sales, their products maintain their prices - and consequently resale value.

Places like Hardly Normal, who are constantly on SOME type of sale, people only wait TIL the sales to buy something.

I know iPad's are cheaper elsewhere sometimes but you also get that sexy Engraving direct from the apple store!
And it's free shipping with apple!

    • Ohh Apple, you will never understand the word Bargain(or Sale for that matter) :)

  • WOW has more of a discount going right now!

  • +3

Well I am just looking at the Kogan site…$548 for the base model iPad isn't exactly a great deal considering one could walk into BigW, Target or JB and pick one up for $554. $6 is not worth waiting 1-2 weeks for delivery plus messing about with adapters etc. I also highly value being able to walk back into the large chain instead of going to apple.

The iPad @ Apple Store is $534. That is $20 saving over JB/etc. $20 gets you a cheaper case & screen protector. It isnt exactly worth writing home about, but if you are about to buy an iPad, this is the cheapest you are gonna get it in Aus. For that reason its a +ve from me :)

Having said that, kar200 makes an excellent point. This is all not much of a saving for a "once a year" sale. Fkn Apple!

    • I'd have to agree with you. The base 15" MBP ($2,099) is only down by $121 to $1,978. Still beats JB/Dickies sticker prices.

If you can whack a 10% Edu or Business discount on top it becomes sweeter at $1,780. Becomes a $319 saving from regular price. Going to grab one for the gf after work.

  • "once a year" what a crock

  • Can someone tell me if I want to buy a iMac i7 with 2GB VRAM which is a order system. Do I need to buy from Apple to get this system?

Just that I did not think DSE or JB HiFI etc do the order systems, they only ever have i5's in store. So when they do their 10% off which is a nice saving of $200+ I cant get one as they dont sell the i7 etc

  • no bargain here

  • Save $11 bucks on an iPod nano.

Talk about over-hype. Wait 364 day for a measly $11 saving? Apple seriously needs to rethink their marketing..

    • The deal may not be great but that doesn't mean Apple has to rethink their marketing…if anything Apples pricing strategies work very much in their favour and prevents the race to the bottom which other PC manufacturers are caught in, competing for minimal profit margins where they can get them.

  • Have to agree, no bargain…

  • great deals, way to go apple!

  • …have you ever wondered how apple became the worlds most expensive company?

    The answers are :

    1. they dont give discounts
    2. they pay Chinese $2 a day to make all this stuff
    3. they then keep profits off shore so neither the Chinese or the americans can tax them
    4. they give share holder buggar all back too, just keep pumping the share price (which isn't legal in case your wondering)

How do they do it, well its lawyers dont just sue for tradmark, they have some of the most complex financial arrangements in the world, designed to get steveJobs soul into heaven, along side the pharo's of old egypt and for good reason too. StvJ died without christ, so he expected the price to be high (at last count it was 'if you had the whole world and lost your soul' to give you some idea of the dollars needed) and this SALE is well on the way to fleece buyers like me for crap thats 50% over priced…

Wonder how StvBallmer is going? After all didnt he used to work for the devil himself before he decided to give away (our) wealth?

    • +1

well… they just gave discounts according to this deal - no matter how pitiful they are. Your other points would be more appreciated in a thread praising apple instead of here. As expensive as their products are, they still seem to be in reach of hipster students so I think the word you were looking for was "most valuable"

      • +1

A harvey norman discount but several years in advance?

  • THANKS A LOT APPLE, you just ruined Xmas!!!!

    /sarcasm

  • Apple not discounting too much is all part of their business strategy. They don't have (or want) retail competition.

From their point of view, it's a good strategy, because they maintain their fat profit margins from generation to generation, whereas with other products become unprofitable to make after a few generations (eg. DVD/Blu-ray players).
