  • Interesting use of the term "mid-size TV" when it's more expensive than the B9/C9s, but comes with smaller screen real estate!

  • +9

Just wrong when you can get the 55” for $200 more ..

    • +8

so if a 55" doesnt fit where i need it to, should i take to it with a sledge hammer to get it down to size?

      • +15

If You’re happy to pay it pay it, didn’t ask for your life story if you can fit it or not, referring to lg bs prices

        • +1

u pay more for a niche product….its how its always been. They sell more 55s so they are better value. If u need the smaller size, u pay the higher price

        • +1

its all about stock availability and demand mate. They certainly don't produce a lot of this model., they produce limited quantities to meet the demand of certain target, not for everyone.

          • +6

@ldolphin: It's also about how they are made. They are cut from a shared piece of glass with the 77" (you can get 2 77" and 2 48" panels from the same glass piece).

So there is only ever the same number of 48" panels as there are 77" panels. And since 77" aren't a huge seller due to price, the 48" can never really drop either as long as there is moderate market demand they will sell.

      • yes

      • +6

I agree RW. I’d make the 55” fit for that small difference. Dont sledgehammer the TV, use it on whatever is stopping it from fitting.

        • +2

im going to use it as a gaming monitor on my PC. 48" is already too big, if there was a 43" id be getting that. If the 55" works for you, then lucky you, go with that.

          • -6

@DanielP2: Oled for gaming monitor, ouch.

            • +1

@onlinepred: its a secondary display. I know the risks involved with this and will do all I can to prevent any damage. It is a secondary monitor, with a primary monitor on an arm for any tasks other than gaming / movies, so will only be turned on when im actually using it. obviously game UIs causing burn-in is still a possibility, but I dont generally sink 100s of hours in to the same game like some do. It will be fine.

The alternative is I get something like the Asus PG35VQ or the PG32UQX but both cost even more than this OLED and will not have the same picture quality.

              • +1

@DanielP2: Just turn it off. Like a light switch. Go click. It's a great little OLED trick.

      • Should should take to the space with a sledgehammer block style and get it to fit

    • not if you can't fit the 55" in your space, plus it actually costs more to make smaller TV's it's why it costs so much.

  • man i bought this last night….i have emailed them asking to refund the difference seeings it hasnt sent yet

  • Excellent deal. I was waiting until the crack of midnight to jump on it myself.

  • I bought this through LG for $2800..

    • +4

I was going to buy it through LG directly too but their entire setup was really off. Filling out forms, bank transfer only, shipping for only city areas (I did not pursue the TV at this point because there were too many hoops to jump through).

I was hoping the TV would release to retail and I am glad I was able to chop $300 off the price and buy it with my 28D PP CC in case it drops further. Tbh I am just glad I was able to secure one.

      • +1

I really thought it was going to be a one and done deal through their purchase form, which is why I did it. I took the risk and well guess I got the short end of the stick, but oh well.

        • Don't beat yourself up. I genuinely thought it was a one and done deal too. LG have acted shady from the very start including neither confirming nor denying whether the TV would ever release here and that was 6 months ago. The whole fill out a form and do a bank transfer ordeal made it feel like it was an exclusive sale. The fact that the TVs are now available at a select few retailers indicates to me that they were leftovers from the LG direct sales as not enough people went ahead with the restrictive conditions and somewhat expensive pricing.

I know it sucks to overpay (been there many times) but be glad you got the TV at all. I believe you got bonus Bluetooth earbuds which hopefully numbs the pain even if a little. I assume you are enjoying the TV itself?

          • +2

@Guybrush57: Yeah you might be right. I really did it to be safe as I knew I needed to have this tv as my monitor for my setup once it arrived, so I bought in on the order form even though I knew there was going to be a premium.

Yes I did get bonus Bluetooth earbuds, although I already have WF1000XM3's and these LG Freetone earbuds are worse than those. I haven't actually opened it yet, I've been waiting for my pc parts to arrive so I can use it together XD. Been busy with other things so didn't have time to set it up for Netflix or anything. Either way I'm happy I was able to get one and thanks for your kind words.

    • Me too since I was told by LG live chat it will not be available in Australian retails stores….

  • +5

I've been following this TV since before release, and continued to follow all of its news worldwide since it released in June. Based on what I've seen around, the 48" model will go on fewer discounts, to the point where oftentimes the 55" model will be cheaper on regular specials. Two reasons:

    1. The 48" model is cut from the same mother panels that are used for the 77" higher end models.
    2. As a result of the first reason, there are fewer 77" models being manufactured than there are 55" and 65" models, so stock on these will always be limited.

HDTVTest goes into great detail explaining this in his videos. For anyone planning to use these as 4K 120Hz displays as monitors on PC, a couple of issues have surfaced recently that have pushed me to wait for next years models. HDTVTest believes it is hardware related (might not be fixed), LG is investigating it (potentially could fix with firmware updates - unknown at this stage).

    • -3

Go sit down and do the maths on this, and you'll realise that they can generate a lot of 48" panels from the mother glass used with minimal waste if they use it specifically for 48" panels.

I suspect they will ramp to produce more 48" panels, but for the moment they might be content with making use of what's left from the 77" cuts.

But yeah, there doesn't seem to be anything stopping them from seriously ramping the supply, will be driven by demand. Can easily be a $1200 TV or monitor if LG wants to drive it that way.

      • +4

This is a big IF that you're talking about. The great thing is, a lot of PC users have generated a lot of interest in this 48" model. Don't forget, this was the year where even Sony stopped producing the 43" and 49" models of their TV's, and Samsung too from a couple of years now have stopped producing smaller than 55" models for their "higher end" offerings. So there is a big market here for LG to capitalise on (120Hz panels that are smaller than 55"), but we are talking about the future here. Right now, this year, and moving into next year, it looks like they're only cutting the 48" model from the 77" mother panel, and so for now and the foreseeable future, it's in limited stock, sadly.

        • -1

All I'm saying is that they can ramp that any time they like. I suspect LG will be looking to push OLED into the monitor space sooner rather than later, as Samsung are looking to do the same.

  • Delivery by 7th December when I enter my post code

    • That's what I got intialy then got confirmation of order with delivery by 13/11/20!

      • Where did you see the confirmation of order delivery date?

I ordered on 5/11/20 and have seen no concrete dates for delivery just the generic "Arrives within 2 - 6 business days from release day with tracking "

        • JB Hifi Order Confirmation email at bottom of email in the "processing" box it says "Arrives on or before 13 Nov 2020"

          • @ozlegacy: Ah ok, mine doesn't have that - must have been because I ordered it early on, only has that range I mentioned

Still gives me hope that if they are claiming 13/11/20 then they will ship out soon.

            • @rysith: hmm so sign of delivery for today so I reckon it's a mistake

              • @ozlegacy: Someone on Whirlpool got this response:
“Our buying team have advised that this item is delayed and should be received from our supplier in late November. The team don't have an exact date, only said that as soon as they get their hands on stock they'll send them out.

We understand that it may not be convenient for you to wait so if you would prefer to cancel your order please reply to this email. “

                • @rysith: I go the same note on Friday, not to worried orginal date always said 7th Dec anyways, more time to make room on the desk :)

              • @ozlegacy: My JB order status is now showing "Shipped" and "Fulfilled 13/11/20"

No email notification or actual ETA date/tracking etc yet, might have just been done.

                • @rysith: mine still shows "Order confirmed" and nothing else

                  • @ozlegacy: Mine is out for delivery this morning :)

Only issue now is chasing up online support for their pre-order price guarantee due to the drop in price for the singles day promo to $2487.55.

The online support email form hasn't replied to me since last Wednesday. Talking with an instore manager, my only option may be to go in and see them to see what they can do.

                    • @rysith: Congrats! They have some stock dribbling through which is great news

                      • @ozlegacy: TV got delivered and all setup - just getting it all configured now.

Will take some time getting used to lol

                        • @rysith: Are you using it on a desk?

                          • @ozlegacy: Yep on the default stand for now, may consider a monitor/wall mount arm, but I can't realistically move the TV back any further due to having large Audioengine A5 speakers on my desk

                            • @rysith: nice ive got a vesa slim line mount coming eventually plan to mount on wall so can bring desk further forward worse case, I'll be about 80-90cm away be intersting to see how that goes…

                            • @rysith: Just got a email now mine has shipped!

I think you'd better wait for C11, so many issues with VRR, black crushing or shadow details. I have the C9 and even if I have full hdmi 2.1, I think it won't be stable enough to avoid screen tearing on new gaming consoles or GC.

    https://www.gizchina.com/2020/11/07/lg-admits-that-oled-tvs-….

    • +1

^^This. Too many issues with HDMI 2.1 at the moment. Looks like LG won't be able to patch the problem with VRR either.

      • I have a LG CX and rtx 3080 using HDMI 2.1. at the moment after LGs latest update I have not encountered any major issues with VRR, the gamma issue is there yes, but it can only be seen in a few games in dark scenes and only when the frames per seconds fluctuates heavily.

I still highly recommend the CX it's the best TV/ Monitor you can buy at the moment.

Yes you could always play the waiting game and wait for something better to come, the thing about the waiting game is that it never ends. There will always be something better around the corner.

        • Is OLED a good monitor? I would be afraid UI elements would cause burn-in.

        • +1

I'm convinced. Did a total 180 and bought a CX 65" tonight. I'm not a huge gamer, but I've now read enough to change my opinion and see this is probably the most future proof OLED you can buy right now.

VRR is meant to be fixed in the new firmware

    • Looks like they're going with C1

      https://fccid.io/RR-LGE-OLED65C1KNA

HDTVTest is a great youtube channel for TVs, and now gaming on TVs, performance, etc.

It's also where I learnt about the C1 'LG C1 Leaked as The Company's 2021 OLED TV'

      • HDTV Test, Rtings or Fomo… Have look when we learned about 10 bit Hdmi2.1, they all underplayed it, never talked about black crushing on lg oled or how usage peak brightness is different from how they test it because of burn in.

I bought a C9 because it was cheaper, I was lucky to not get the cX but VRR is broken and no solution to shadow details.

They are not advisers but advertisers.

They is an annoying guy '' quantumTV'', content not professional and ranting all the time but he was the only one talking about how underwhelming the almighty oled is. For people who will say I'm salty, i' d say that '' yes I am'', money is harder to go by, I saved a while to get the best experience, read reviews did my homework and I feel cheated. If you want an oled, Sony is much better

  • Sooo tempted to buy this. Been looking forward to this since the beginning of the year. But, with income unstable and getting my c6 replaced with a cX 55 (warranty), not sure it is a worthy buy. Used my c6 as a monitor but now cX as a TV. Miss my crazy black levels but don't miss the constant care for avoiding static images.

    • What issues were you having with your C6 that warranty replaced it with a CX? Was that via LG/ACL or retailer extended warranty?

I have a B6 which has some panel issues - notably burn in and have raised a request via JB's extended warranty. I'm waiting to hear back but it sounds to me like the best I could expect would be a panel replacement not a new tv. Unless the panel replacement proved uneconmical.

      • I went straight to LG as I thought JB may not play nice under Australian consumer guarantee. I actually would have been fine for them to repair it but c6 is curved 3d 4k OLED (last of its kind). Thus, they can't repair it. I.e. offered to refund or replacement. Took the latter.

      • +1

I had a B6 with a dead spot earlier this year, went straight to LG, went to special team (because of the purchase price), they said they would replace panel, repairer said no panels, LG said replacement or refund. I took refund - store credit :) and bought a CX and had monies left over.

Recommend going direct to LG … after a court case they lost a couple of years ago they are playing nicely

  • +2

This is mostly used a Gaming monitor. 120hz refresh rate.

  • Will be buying PS5 next year, just wondering when can we expect the next model to arrive? Do they release a new model each year?

    • +2

Yes every year new model. Around April. But Don't expect a bargain or a price cut until the end of the year.

  • -2

When is the 49'' being released?

  • I would like to get this to replace my Dell 32 inches 4k monitor. However, I wish I wish it was 43" or smaller.

    • Same. But they wont make OLED smaller.

I will get this next year at some point.

  • Do they make TVs that aren't smart these days? I just want something I can plug a HTPC into. I've used friends smart TVs before and they all feel sluggish and shit, and I doubt they ever get updates either.

    • I have a 6 year old LG Smart tv running web OS, still gets updates, performs flawlessly. I would worry about Android-based smart TV's, but LG has their own OS that runs very stable from my experience.

  • Hmm showing in stock again…
