    Thanks, been waiting for this!

42mm Black can be had cheaper here - https://www.expansys.com.au/ - not sure about site legitimacy though

  • I can't believe Withings has a CEO named Sleep Aponia… Is he Greek?

  • I couldn't find anything about it being listed as a medical device.

There was an article in The Australian 2 days or 3 days ago about it by Chris Griffith.

I would have posted here but it's paywalled.

In it, the watch was previously slated for release in 2021 but because it only took TGA 2 weeks to approve the ECG accreditation, Withings released the watch now.

I thought JB Hifi has the exclusive distribution of this watch as it was mentioned in another article but I could be wrong.

      • I think TGA was desperate to approve one ECG watch as neither Apple nor Samsung filed an application for ECG :)

  • Can they actually sell it above RRP? The RRP was $499. Hmmmm…..

    • It can be sold above or below that price, the manufacturer just "Recommends" that it be sold at that price. They've taken into account overheads and markups, but at the end of the day a retailer may choose to ignore it. Most people will choose not to buy it if it's advertised for an inflated price. Then there is also Supply and Demand which will influence the pricing.

  • weird looking device to wear during sleep.

  • About time!!

I've been tracking this watch for a long time. When it was released in Europe and US, I asked Withings if the watch was going to be available in Australia. They replied with "we are working on that right now, but still don't have an ETA", but I didn't take them seriously and thought it was going to take months/year for the Scanwatch to be approved and arrive in Oz. Therefore, I bought a Garmin Vivoactive (different purpose).

I've had the basic Withings Steel for years, it's a great watch, one of the few which look like a nice watch, and not something ugly like everything else (my opinion anyway…). My Steel is actually branded Nokia, from the short period in which Withings was sold just to be bought back after months. The battery of those watches is great, I have to replace it every 8 months.

Withings is extremely responsive to feedback and keeps improving the watch through updates.

I like the Vivoactive, but would definitely buy the Scanwatch if I had not spent the money two months ago.

This guy made this review before release; a few things have improved since then.

    Also: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtRh-_9kXgM with updates.

    • Same, been tracking it for a while, didn’t go for anything else as I needed an ECG watch, was thinking to get us version Apple watch but I needed something with at least a week battery life
      Thanks for the link

I have been tracking it since last year. The Health Mate apps is great and couldn't wait to see how it would utilize Scanwatch.

Steel HR has been great and the only thing I wish it would have is the WithingsPay.

  • I want a ECG watch for my Mum but tossing up between that an an apple watch for fall detection….

The apple watch would wins hand down if its ECG function was working in Aus.. I like the look of these though, even if im not normally a fan of silver.

    • You can buy an Apple watch from a country that has ECG enabled, US or NZ etc. Battery life on apple watch is very short though but many extra features including fall detection, emergency call , apple pay etc.

      • Really? I might have to research that some more. I thought it would just realise its in AUS and not work?

I know its battery life is pretty terrible but I already checked and asked her if shed wear a watch that she has to charge every day and she said she would.

        • From my research it works if you
1- buy it from a country that has it enabled
2- buy it here and travel to a country that has it enabled and enable it there
          But double check…

I ask… why would you do that to your mother?

The watch can't detect falls while it's charging, which means she shouldn't leave it charging overnight… Honestly, I understand the fall detection might be a good thing, but that's pointless if there is no battery…

All these companies should stop releasing new devices and new features until they find a decent solution for batteries. Having to charge a phone or a watch overnight is just ridiculous.

  • Why doesnt JB have the 38mm White version in 42mm…

  • Black 42mm is awaiting stock. Can you get 11% off on awaiting stock? lol

  • I had a Steel HR for a couple of days.. Nice watch, but let down by the software. Sleep detection was hit and miss, and for whatever reason, Nokia (Withings) decided to ignore your phones 'Do Not Disturb' settings, so each night when you go to bed you have to manually disable notifications.

  • So far I've visited 3 JB Hifi none of them have stocks displayed. Not sure if kept behind but I can see they are clearing the space for it (that is, empty rack with big Withings sign at the top obviously in preparation of displaying the new watch).

    • It looks like it has been delayed. I bought it online not reading delivery time correctly thinking I get it by 16th via express delivery, until read the invoice to see it is December 16th.

  • I ordered one too and am hoping that it arrives well before the quoted 16 December ship date when I ordered. It seems strange that Withings announced availability and seeded review units for it to have launched a week later with no stock for another six weeks.

    • Could be at JB end. Not necessarily Withings.
