  • Got one, works fine with my NAS

    • Do you mean you use your NAS as a storage for videos instead of their cloud?

      • +1

Yep, it supports OVINF protocol so can be managed by sysnology SurveillanceStation.

        • noob question. how much does the setup cost?

          • @[Deactivated]: By "the setup", do you mean the setup of NAS, or the setup(installation) of the camera?

The NAS cost me $1200+, including the NAS itself $600+ and 4x4T HDD = $150x4

The installation, I did it myself :)

    • Is the quality any good? missed out on the singles day sale yesterday on AliExpress - the 5MP E1 Zoom went down to $66AUD as I hesitated and the voucher was all taken by the time I decided to get one.

      • The quality is very good as a 4MP camera, not as good as E1 Zoom 5MP indoor one (I have them both) though, which has vivider color (and higher resolution, :)

    • What NAS would you recommend for two of these camera's. Would something like this work? (https://www.mwave.com.au/product/synology-diskstation-ds220j…)

      • +1

I'm using the DS216j with 2 reolink wifi cameras and surveillance station works great. https://youtu.be/IP1KzGWUutA

I use a few of these and there also wifi one with Synology Surveillance software on my NAS. They work well with the only consideration is how you will get power to them as they are PoE. I have Ubiquiti UniFi so PoE is already part of the home network.

Synology comes with free licenses for two cameras, after that you can buy licenses as needed.

    • Do you have it set to record 24/7 or only on motion?

      • 24/7, because I connected it to my NAS, the storage is not an issue. Also Synology can compress to time-lapse videos to save space.

  • Found an interesting review of some of their cameras: https://www.safehome.org/home-security-cameras/reolink/revie…

    • Those cameras are designed to be independent, the one listed here is for connecting to an external recording system, for example BlueIris. This gets rid of most of the potential downsides of these cameras (besides night vision being average)

  • Reolink argus 2 really good. Wireless waterproof and solar charging. No fees. Records.Recommend

    • Only records on motion

You can set these to continually record if you use a NVR

The wifi is useless on these relilnks from what I"ve read, but good with wifi, but the motion detection is terrible. it has no AI at all. so an example where other basic cameras will detect something moving across the screen or towards, and then turn on the alert, these cameras only detect changes in brightness darkness. so even clouds moving across the sky will trigger motion activation. The motion activation is 30yo technology. If you are using a real NVR, then you can feed the video through and it will likely have better motion detection, which you use instead.

This is all from reading reviews, I havent' bought one yet

    • The cameras are designed to be used with external software, not stand alone like reolinks other cameras.

I have 3 of these and they are really good for the price especially if you hook it to a NAS to record 24/7. I'm using HP microserver installed with Xpenology and using Surveillance station for recording & monitoring. This doesn't have AI motion detection but you can integrate it with Google home and it supports ONVIF or FTP for recording.
