Where to View Monitors in Person?

Does anyone know if there any shops that show off their monitors?

I'm in Melbourne and I hit up Harvey Norman and JB Hifi but didn't have any luck. A lot of them at JB aren't even connected to power and Harvey Norman has a few plugged into computers but the only thing they show is web pages and YouTube, neither of which really sell me on upgrading to 4K or ultrawide. I'm surprised they don't have game footage recorded at high refresh rates or high resolutions playing on these things at least.

Edit: Also I feel really dumb now, not thinking of checking YouTube for 21:9 videos or something. Oops.

A dedicated computer store e.g. Centrecom would be a good start

    • Huh, Centrecom totally slipped my mind. Thanks! The Sunshine one is pretty easy to get to.

Just visit your friendly neighbourhood OzBargainer. Dell monitors are the new eneloops.

This is correct. Please come to my place. Alone.

Officeworks is an option but limited range.

Edit. I've never bought a monitor by eye'ing it. It's usually through spec sheets. Panel type, resolution, connectivity. refresh rate, size are usually good enough.

A review or 2 helps too.

      • I go by spec sheets and reviews but they're not particularly good at telling you whether 4K or UW is "worth it", so to speak. Like in person I can easily tell an upgrade to a 32" 1440p screen isn't a big deal compared to my current size/res.

If I'm just gonna stick with 27" 1440p then spec sheets and reviews are the go-to, of course. At this point I'm just trying to figure out what kind of monitor I want to look at rather than what specific model. Hope that makes sense.

    Officeworks

    • I'll see if the local has any, they're rather small though so might have to check the city.

    CPL Clayton.

  • Depends on what brands you are looking for I guess, different computer shops will have a limited number of brands others may only stock one brand. If you have friends with a few diff monitors just ask to visit take a 4k demo on a usb stick and play etc

    • I don't have friends :(
