isnt aldi selling the similar product?

    • +6

Are they? Unfortunately not all of us are graced with Aldi.

      • +15

        You aren't missing much…

        • +3

Yes I made the mistake of listening to everyone who said their coffee beans are amazing when I was in a state with Aldi. I think dirt and boiled water would do a better job.

          • +1

@Clear: lol which ones did you get from Aldi? And what do you typically buy?

            • @gimme: I always get negged for dissing cheap Aldi coffee beans haha. I got the Dark Roast as recommended but it seems that's been ruined according to ry34.

I'm currently living off Market Lane.

          • @Clear: their dark roast used to be great, then the packaging changed colour and so did the taste of the beans. Now I'm looking for something that tastes better (for a similar price)

            • @ry34: That's the one.

            • @ry34: You sure it wasn't just a bad batch? I've been using dark roast for ages and didn't notice any difference since they changed the packaging. I've also checked with a number of people I had recommended Dark Roast to and they said the same thing. No difference.
I'm assuming you get the beans and not the ground.

              • +1

@gimme: could be a bad batch, I've got another 2 bags to get through.. I'll let you know

          • @Clear: I totally agree! I bought a kilo of their beans and I ground through half a bag, making micro adjustments to my grind settings, and ever so slightly delicate tamp pressure changes, to conclude that the fault was in the beans! They just were not up to a standard that could produce anything that looked like coffee from a reasonable grinder (Breville Smartgrinder) and prosumer level coffee maker (Breville dual boiler). So I took them back and haven't bought any more since.

            • @Nevo: I think most OzBargainers probably refer to us as coffee snobs since they dilute their coffee with either so much milk, sugar or both that you can't distinguish the flavour between good and bad beans.

              • @Clear: I've been a coffee snob for years. Used to spend upwards of $70/kg on all sorts of stuff. Never dilute my coffee with milk or sugar. I have a basic ranicilio setup and consistently extract great espresso from Aldi Dark Roast. Adjust my grind settings once a month due to possibly temp change or grind getting old. Typically use the beans for a month and unlike other beans I've used in the past, I can still get a great crema towards the end of the month. Maybe I'm lucky.

      Yes and selling for $29.99.

  • +2

    no stock near me

    • same, guess i save some money (to be spent on the weekend)

    • Depends on your circumstances. Seems pricey for the contents, seeing as they wouldn't exactly be top-notch quality tools imo. But if you have no tools and want a kit around the house it seems to have all the common tools in one nice package.

      • Yeah thanks, i wanted the mechpro blue kit because i heard it's good and 3 year warranty. I might wait a bit longer for a cheaper kit that's better quality. I have been looking since repcos previous deal that was not available nationally. Boo

    • I bought a set similar a while ago, Never really used it and it sat in the back of my car for ages, the range of tools is barely adequate for using on the fly. I ended up buying 2 sets of these when they were on sale for $99. https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/toolpro-toolpro-automoti…

  • Does repco offer free shipping at all for a minimum purchase amount? I know they did during covid minimum $50

  • Are these good for building computers?

    • Wouldn't be an issue. Has a lot of tips like torx that would be suitable.

    • ridiculous overkill for many folks

like the old saying that you really use (and lose) the 10mm socket the most

      • I remember my first socket set my dad bought me when I was a teenager, the 10mm was the first to go lol :)
Now my problem is drill bits. I have a few sets and none of them have any 2mm drill bits left

    • +4

To build a computer all you need is a regular Phillips #2

If you want to do something more advanced like dismantle a video card or a laptop then your best bet is probably a kit with lots of magnetic bits like the Xiaomi Wiha kit or ifixit kit or similar.

  • I've heard Mechpro is junk.

    • +2

It's certainly cheap but I wouldn't say they're junk. They're usable but if you're expecting this to be a kit of Wiha you'd be delusional.

    • +1

Mechpro and Mechpro Blue are mostly made in China :(

Repco branded tools on the other hand are great.

  • +1

    Slightly on/off topic:

Does anyone know of a decent screwdriver set, preferably magnetic interchangeable, at smaller sizes? Need torx and specialty @ 0-5 sizing (small electronics, etc).

    Not from Amazon.

I've spent more than I should have to get bits which strip first time out (& I'm careful & the screw isn't that tight, as I can grab another set and finish the job.).

    Cheers

  • Are these the kind of bits that burr and break if you push them? I have found cheap bits to do that when expensive ones are fine.

    • +1

they are cr-v so strong metal, big mistake that leads to burr is people mixing up philips head and posidrive, they look similar but are different angles, don’t use philips head on a posidrive screw.

  • The stand seems ridiculous. How do you tell the type of screwdriver?

    • It's printed on the end of the handles what type it is, so you would look down at it but yeah not always ideal.

  • I got the Ozito Impact driver and dont really have any other tools. Is this a good set to go with that in terms of attachments?

    • +1

This is a cheap set and not really meant for impact drivers. I wouldn't even use it with just standard drivers. Only handheld

      • ohh thank you!

  • Seems to have run out.

    • My local didn't have any 1-2weeks ago. Said they were on backorder until end of month, which doesn't help much :/
