I believe the China Version has no NFC whereas Global one does. Might be worth paying the extra if you think you can benefit from the NFC.

    • The nfc doesnt work with payment systems

      • So there is no point having NFC then?

        • +1

little points if you are not in China, see below re tagging

    • I got the global version a couple weeks ago for $45 because someone on the threads said it had NFC. It doesn't. Keen to know the difference between the global and chinese version though

      • +1

Chinese version have NFC for Alipay and other random payment methods, none of which work outside of China.

        • Very interesting, I use Alipay for Taobao, wondering if that will work?

    • +3

I believe you have it backwards.

    • There are two types of China Version. One with NFC and one without. The description for this deal says "NO NFC China/Global" version indication it's no NFC.

  • +1

NFC is useless outside of China.

  • +1

NFC can still be used on AU albeit not for payments, eg. if you automate a NFC tap to your phone to mean something like "record time/date/location" or whatever.
Chinese version allegedly also nas infrared ppg instead of visible green, which is more precise in the dark (sleep) but less so with bright light around, uses more battery and can also measure SpO2 (if/when they allow it - not sure if it is on)

If anyone has the Chinese version and can confirm the infrared ppg I'd be grateful.

    • +2

I believe NFC is not customisable based on my research. Could you please provide links on how to do this?

      • It's not the nfc that's customizable, but you can ask your phone to do specific things when activated by a nearby nfc with apps like tasker, automate etc

    • +1

      Neither version has SpO2 monitoring

    • amazfit 5 has spO2 if you want that

  • +1

    Good find OP

  • +3

    Great deal OP.

Also, slightly off topic but I paid for an AliExpress item through Paypal and it got flagged as a cash advance by my bank. Had to call the bank to get the fee and interest credited. Hopefully no one else has this issue.

    • +2

I had the same issue with Bankwest.

They are blaming Paypal, but I think its Bankwest classifying it as a financial service as its paid through AliPay.

  • Can this take physical SIM?

    • +1

      no

      • how does it handle calls? Is there any cellular function or is it just bluetooth?

        • +2

When someone calls you, the band vibrates and shows name/number. You can reject the call using the band. You can't accept the call using the band.

Many problems with the Mi Band 5. Especially during many fitness modes.

Seems to be sunlight effects heart rate sensor so when the band is in sunlight it will detect around 64bpm when its really around 154bpm.
This results in incorrect calories lost and totally incorrect data being recorded.

I'd stick with Mi band 4.

  • my kid wants a fitbit, but i dont want to get one for them because i know they'll break it… would this be a decent replacement??

    • +1

Get them the older MiBand3 or 4 is sufficient. Also note that it is mandatory to link to a phone to setup.

      • Any links to a good price for the Mi Band 4 and also does the Mi Band 4 have the magnetic charger as the Mi Band 5 ?

        • +1

I think the upgrade in mi band 5 is you dont have to take out the watch face to charge which is super convenient in my opinion. I just bought it via gearbite when they had the 15% off deal. Its was $45AUD after discount (not the best price obviously) but at least you dont have to wait 3-6 weeks to ship from aliexpress. Got mine in 2 days.

          • @sagrules: Thanks for letting me know ,I will stick with the Mi Band 5 as it would make it a lot easier to charge.

  • Why OZbargainers prefer Mi bands 5 or other bands from Xiaomi rather than Huwaei band 4 pro or Honor band 5 as they are more accurate than Mi bands? Am i missing something?

    • +1

      Price I believe….

    • What is more accurate?

  • Honor bands and huawei band 4 pro are better in Heart Rate Sensor, SO2, Steps and Sleep tracking Correct me if I am wrong
Note: I haven't compared these bands by myself but after googling, looking at the reviews came to this conclusion.

  • lol Kmart just dropped the MiBand 5 for $79 AUD and smart band 4C for $49 why would anyone buy in-store over this.

    • Which Kmart stocks mi bands?

      • Assume all? It was on the new print catagloue this week.

        • I never knew this… Interesting

  • dont think i can get that price. no coupon for me

    • Does not work for either.

    • +1

      cheaper here

  • +1

People who were disappointed with the sleep tracking last Mi Band 5 thread; it's better to use an app like "sleep as android" in tandem with this band. The band will measure heartbeat and movement while pairing with the phone's accelerometer to give more accurate sleep readings.
