    Better spend more for mini2

  • Mini 2 fly more was only $100 more a couple of weeks ago.

Grab the chance to get a big toy!

I have a mavic mini with the litchi app installed allowing active tracking waypoints etc just like the mini 2 . The only real let down with the mavic mini is it lacks the 4k gimble..Other then that flight time is the same. Speed is slightly higher on the mini 2 and the controller is updated…. but for this price the mavic mini is still a good buy that will not disappoint the first time drone buyers.

    • -4

Yes, mavic mini is better for first buyer, good price now.

    • +3

Mini 2 is occusync protocol instead of wifi giving the Mini 2 a much more reliable signal than the Mini 1. It’s worth every cent of the upgrade for that reason alone..

    • I have got mini and litchi but can't use waypoint. It says it doesnt support on mavic mini.

  • Just bought mini 2 fly more combo for $805 from JB last Wednesday… I've been a drone pilot for almost 4 years by now and I'm just buying mini 2 for fun. I can tell you that mini 2 to 1 is a huge leap. The OcuSync 2.0 is a key and patterned technology developed by DJI which makes it absolutely NO other drones in this class can compete with mini 2 in the world. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. This technology alone is well enought worth the upgrade, let alone the 4K video capability. Oh don't forget RAW picture as well.

Mind sharing how you managed to score it for $805 please? I visited multiple JB's in Sydney city last week and none had it in store :(

      • -6

That's it, you will find things with satisfied price but out of stock always.

      • +1

I didn't intend to buy it until I was browsing and luckily saw the everything 11% off by JB then stacked with 5% gc made it down to $805 ($802 actually the extra $3 was my credit card payment fee something)

        • Can you upload receipt ? I will buy this straight away!

So ocusyn make you fly the drone further? But we supposed to fly it under our sight only, right? So ocusyn is kind of useless?

      • The WiFi glitch on Mavic mini is bad. My first drone is a Mavic air which also used wifi, the graphic drops out from time to time until I switched to Mavic 2.
Two weeks ago when I tried the Mavic mini I gave to my GF last Christmas and I realised how horrible it is to fly a WiFi drone, you may have a tearing image or even lost video (controller workable) when you have straight eyesight with the drone. This is especially bad since the drone is targeting an entry-level user who would prob freak out when they lose graphics and do stupid things such as force shut down the drone and let it free fall.

      • Sure, no drone pilot breaks that rule

That's a commonly seen question and also one often I am asked. In fact this is not true. A wider-range-capable radio connection always means it is more stable and reliable. People are always like "I'm not gonna fly this little thing that far so I don't need such capability". But this is a myth. A more stable and reliable signal transmission, i.e. the conection established between the drone and the remote in your hands, always means it has better interference resistance, faster delivery of every bit of the signal (OcuSync is a full digital transmission system other than traditional analogue), and some other advanced features like better resilience. You don't have to fly that far, pushing it to the limit to experience its benefits. By far you might still be wondering what these mean to consumers. Well, in very simple words, better interference resistance = 1. you'll see better and smoother real-time picture captured on your phone 2. your flying will be more secured as you won't lose control of your drone, which happens commonly and intermittently when you fly in high interference area like in CBD (and if you lose control of the drone in CBD that's very dangerous!) Faster delivery = more responsive of the drone and lower latency for the picture and video you're capturing. As for better resilience, that's a long story and long enough to be explained in a paper. I'll try to explain as simple as I can: OcuSync is a digital transmission system that works in a broadcast-alike pattern. The connection established between the drone and remote is simple and reliable but if for some unknow reason it is lost, it has the ability to re-establish in milliseconds, which is critical to flying safety. Mini 1 uses the common WiFi with enhanced signal, i.e. more power output. But we all know that WiFi was not designed for this purpose at all. Once the signal is lost, because of the limitation of WiFi protocol, the system has to re-build the connection right from the lower data link layer right to the top appliacation layer (something like the OSI TCP/IP model if you know what I'm talking about). This is a huge cost of the system resource, resulting in the re-build process would take seconds instead of milliseconds. In the world of flying, this is literally the difference between black and white, life and death. It's the difference between you can recover the control and take your drone with remote back home, and the case you walk home alone with only the remote control.

Hope these would help a little bit. There're a lot comparison videos on YouTube, for example this From 3:28 you'll see what I mean by "better interference resistance". (Sorry the video is not in English but it's the only one I can find with this comparison atm)

  • if you are going to spend this much on a toy, you should get mini 2, sure you won't mind the extra $A

  • I bought air 2 combo at JB HiFi for $1699 last week, just ask the staff

  • +3

why list the others if they are full rrp ?

    • +3
