OP, what has changed with Magical Unicorn? It now taste bland compared to before. It was my favourite bean but now I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed.

    • Thanks for the feedback, we made a minor change and used a 25% Colombian Popayan and 25% Colombian Huila instead of just 50% Colombian Popayan due to low stock of Popayan but it shouldn't have made much difference in the cup as they are both from the same farm and similar profiles.

I'll test tommorrow and see if I can tell the difference. Will be back to normal in a few weeks once the new batch of Popayan lands :)

      • It’s made a massive difference IMO and I would not call it a minor change. The coffee taste totally different.

This information should have been communicated during the previous deals as I feel it’s very deceptive to do a switch in such a manner. I also recommended this coffee to other users so I feel upset the coffee isn’t to standard.

To be honest I can no longer trust Manna Beans as I don’t know what beans will be sent.

Impressed you can tell with a small change!

Wonder if i'll like it now.
I don't normally like this blend as much as say jamocha.

@fusion17: Agree, I like Jamocha the best. Magic unicorn is not so magical to my taste buds/olfactory nerve. Just purchase 2kg of it to sit me out for the upcoming festive season.

        • @gamemaster Sorry that you feel like this. We have not been deceptive in anyway and we were using a very similar Colombian from the same farm, only for a few weeks until the new batch of Popayan arrived which was held up due to logistics from current global issues. This is only 25% of the blend anyway with almost the same profile. Coffee crops vary season to season according to weather conditions ie sun cover, rainfall and many other factors. This is the nature of farming and unless the farmers are either God or have their own HAARP system then they are unable to control weather conditions ;)

Coffees are seasonal and we develop our blends accordingly. No farmers can guarantee 100% identical profiles between seasonal crops and we don't even advertise what coffees we use in our different blends anyway so we are not misleading anyone. I was just trying to hypothesize and be helpful and provide some additional info. Our New batch of Popayan has just landed so back to usual now anyway and to be honest there's no guarantee that this was even the reason that you say the last batch performed differently it was just a theory.

All the coffee we ship is fresh roasted specialty coffee to an award winning standard but we can't always guarantee that every coffee will please everyone as taste is subjective. Respect your decision either way

          Kind Regards

    • Exactly what I was thinking when I thought about buying more coffee. It's become quite vanilla - and completely useless for milk coffees, just too thin.

Not sure why; however Magical Unicorn should be as per normal now as we have had no issue with our cafes and our new crop of Popayan has just landed. :)
I just tried some Magical Unicorn that I had put aside 2 weeks ago from Gamemaster'as initial comment so that we could test it and to be honest it still tastes great in the cup to me.

I'm really sorry but I'm not sure why this batch you had seemed different.

What happened to the other 30g that would have made these the traditional, industry standard 500g bags?

    • +1

      keeps the postage cost down

      • Used to be 480 gram bags. Now 470 gram. Costs go up I guess

    • It's insurance against AusPost saying "sorry you're 1 gram over the limit so you need to pay more postage costs"

Once that happens a few times it'd probably eat too much into the margin on this deal…
