thought these things would have been composite wood. probably ozbargainer thing would be to take your kids to the local playground. I got my kid a $35 swingset during the toys r us closing down sale.. My son has only used it 5 times this year..
They're made from Cedar, a soft but very durable timber in regards to resisting rot and pests. We have a very similar one from the same manufacturer from the Masters close down days. A whipper snipper will take a chunk out of Cedar, but thats the soft nature of it. Durability wise and structurally they are fine, and it's actually a great timber to use for this type of structure that will be crawled all over by kids, as it doesn't need a pile of nasty chemicals to keep the rot and pests at bay, unlike pine.
Be a good dad and build yourself a wooden cubby play house lol

is this a good deal? or do you have any recommendation for a similar price/outdoor play?
I have a very similar model from the same brand. It lasted 18 months before signs of structural issues with the “timber”. I use the word timber very loosely. This thing feels like paper mache. I hit one of the legs with my whipper snipper once and it went half an inch deep.
No longer felt the kids were even safe on it. I replaced the swing section with a Vuly.
I would probably avoid…
Edit: For clarity, I also have other KidKraft products (e.g. dollhouse, smaller toys) that are fantastic. I just wouldn’t buy one of their swing sets again.
