Includes delivery fee and change of mind free return, worth the premium if you're on the fence

  • True, but for the price it's a very solid cpu.

Futu Online has to be the worse of price jackers on ebay.

For example, Ryzen 3700x listed at $669. Even after 20% off, still more expensive than most of the local stores.

  • this or a Ryzen 5 2600?

Definitely this… imho best to wait for Black Friday though.

Combine this with a z490 for under $200 and you're looking at better gaming performance than ryzen 3600 while being cheaper

      • -1

how could it possibly be better than a 3600?

        • +3

A i5 10400f running at 3200mhz ram is better in game on average when compared to a ryzen 3600 running at 3200mhz ram

People only like the ryzen 3600 before as the i5 was more expensive and z490 was also expensive, now it doesn't make sense to get a b450 with a ryzen 3600 when you can get an i5-10400f with z490 for cheaper

        • +1

Faster "ish" gaming, slower content creation.

It's just annoying that with intel you need to buy a $180 motherboard to be able to do some memory overclocking.

Amd processors are unlocked and cheap b450 boards allow memory overclock

          • +1

@kogi: also intel needs to get the K model cpus etc get the unlocked multiplier etc.

        • +1

The 10400F has slightly higher single-threaded performance. As a result, it gets around 5 fps more than the 3600 in gaming.

The 3600 only beats it in productivity workloads.

          • @Heero: In gaming, it only performs better with 3200Mhz memory. https://youtu.be/csFwlKgZCzM

            • @HaveANiceDay: The combo with z490 will still be cheaper than 3600 combo atm

              • @ln28909: I am just stating that it's only better with 3200Mhz as a disclaimer.

I don't think it'll be actually? Isn't the cheapest Z490+10400F and cheapest B450+3600 around the same price?

              • @ln28909: Questionable.

                The cheapest trash-tier Z490 motherboard will cost you $184. Add $216 for the 10400F = $400

                The cheapest trash-tier B450 motherboard will cost you $87. Add $320 for the 3600 = $407

Pricing leans in favor of AMD when you start looking at the mid-tier boards (e.g. Strix B450-F $185 vs Strix Z490-F $400)

                • -3

@Heero: Unlikely anyone would care about motherboard for a 6 cores cpu, as long as it runs as expected, it is good enough. Since they're both EOL socket, upgradability is also not a factor here

                  • @ln28909: Socket 1200 is brand new?

                    • @razza: People buying in this price range is not going to want to upgrade when the next generation of cpu comes out, so in that's ense it is eol

                      • @ln28909:

is not going to want to upgrade when the next generation of cpu comes out,

Then, any reason for not using A320M mother board for 3600 ?

                        • @tofu_soldier: No idea tbh, I've only done business with B and X series so A series is foreign to me

                • @Heero: "Pricing leans in favor of AMD when you start looking at the mid-tier boards (e.g. Strix B450-F $185 vs Strix Z490-F $400)"

I would not classify the z490-f mid-tier for $400. mid tier z490 is an msi z490 a-pro for $229 or asus prime p for $249 which can handle a 10900k.

It's good to have options these days! much better than 4-5 years ago where it was intel 4 core 8 threads or nothing

                • @Heero: plus a 3600 on sale is closer to 260-280

        • what about overclocking on ryzen 3600 ?

      • +1

That's true if future upgradability is not a concern.

Imho wouldn't recommend any Z490 board under $200 because they wouldn't handle higher end CPUs like the 10900K or Rocket Lake which, as a future upgrade, would be the only thing worth buying a Z490 board right now to pair with the 10400F.

But if you must… ASRock Z490M Pro4 $179 + Postage @ Umart I believe it shares the same VRM as the ATX sized Z490 Pro4 reviewed here and as you can see it is terribad for higher CPUs. This and the worse still Phantom Gaming 4 would be your only choices under $200.

Best spend more to get something better for future upgrades, which at this point you might as well go AMD for guaranteed Zen3 performance upgradability versus the Rocket Lake gamble.
