  • UK stock. Probably need a converter. Does anyone know if this is a standard kettle power cable?

    • +1

It isn't a kettle cable so you would need an adapter. But you'd honestly be better off buying something like the Edifier R1280DB. I switched from these to the R1280DB and the sound is significantly better. Only buy these if you want thumping (albeit muddy) bass.

    • Mine doesn’t have a plug you can unplug from the sub itself.

  • +3

Good set, but these were under $100 a lot in 2019, seem a few around $120-130 this year, unless you really want it I would wait

    • +2

Yeah I found this set really great value but I only paid ~$95 about 1-2yrs ago.

  • +2

No deal! 4 pages of historical listings the majority of which are under $100

    • Were you going to buy them if the price was right??

  • +2

Bought this in 2015 for like 90 bucks…

    • +5

      I paid $36 in 2017 😁

      • Damn that's a deal! As others have mentioned it's all bass and not much more than that. Still recommend them if that's what's important!

        • I use the Z623 as TV speakers connected via the headphone jack so I can control the volume with the TV remote, they're great for movies and gaming.

Also have the Edifier R1280DB, much better for music, although they're still $100 speakers so can't expect too much, but for the price they're ok.

  • Sounds good , gets loud , but doesn't have bluetooth so has to be hard wired.

    • +1

Can attach audio chromecast or BT transmitter to the 3.5

      • Are BT adapters still a thing in 2020.

    lol get some ediifers

    • which one's as good as the Z623s?

      • Edifier R1280DB offer significantly better sound quality than these. Regular price is about $130-140, but they regularly go on sale and have been ~$99.

The only think some people may consider a drawback on the R1280DB compared to the Z623 would be bass presence. The R1280DB are not lacking in bass, but they are not boomy like the Z623. Some people think boomy bass is a good thing (it isn't).

    • The cheap edifiers..well..they sound cheap also.
Lots of people online rave about them because they haven't listened to 1k plus systems

      • Yes, but comparing the z623 to the Edifier R1280DB - two products in the same price category - there is a distinct difference in sound quality.

I agree that moving up to more expensive setup will have noticeable gains, but that's not what's being compared here.

        • Yes, they will sound much cleaner for music

  • +3

Unpopular opinion - I didn't really rate these.

As it's literally a sub and a pair of tweeters, it's all low and top end, with zero mids. Probably ok for gaming or something (which i don't do), but for anything else they're not really suited.

One positive was that i sold them for a little more than i paid for them.

      for $90 its a reasonable buy… in 2016

you can do better in 2020

  • Bought these awhile back it’s doing the cracking noise when you put volume up and down

    • the volume pot is corroding

    • You can twist the volume knob back and forth a fair few times (at least a minute) to clear the dust that builds up in there to stop it crackling temporarily, but it's a known issue with these.

Be careful not to knock the power switch tho, it's easily damaged.
