Breville BES980 The Oracle Coffee Machine $1799 Delivered @ Myer

220

Not sure if this is a price error because looks like there is two listing for the same machine, but try your luck. Cheapest I've seen it. Very cheap for post COVID prices. They also have a redemption offer on this machine at the moment with free coffee/goodies so double bonus for you.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2020

Insanely good price for this machine in 2020. Has been slightly cheaper via Amazon in the past, but that's a long time ago and those prices are long gone.

This is not the dynamic duo dual boiler.

I think dualboiler version with smart grinder is a better unit.

    • +3

Except its not. This is essentially the exact same machine as the dual boiler with built in grinder (smaller footprint) and more streamlined features essentially making it quicker to make coffee. These are going for $2,300 on amazon, catch, appliances etc

I own the dual boiler as well and was considering this machine but the dual boiler + smart grinder at the price i paid was just better value for what i needed as well.

Now if you mean what is better value, thats another comparison and youll need to take into a few other considerations eg how many coffees are you making back to back in the morning.

        The grouphead size is different?

Pretty sure I returned this model to Harvey Norman and got the BEP920 set for our office unit.

My experience on the machines… I think the bep920 is superior coffee machine

        ….
Bes920 with smart grinder is a good setup

Are you sure you arnt referring to the barista express - BES870? Which looks a lot like the Oracle but is about a third of the price and nowhere near the level of the oracle or the dual boiler?

          https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/breville-the-barista-express-…

          • @TightTerry: You must be correct.
No dual boiler in the one I previously had at office.
            Looks deceived me.

Can't complain with my personal Bep920 set 3yrs+ old.

Using a newer model Bep920 set at work office.

        • Pretty sure as others have stated you got the barista express or barista pro not the oracle

          • @maverickjohn: If it is similar to bes870.
The grouphead and baskets are smaller than the bes920.

(I go hack with 18 to 21g coffee grounds)

            • @Rrpnothanx: The Oracle has the wider group head like the bes920
The breville 9 series are the premium range. Starting with the dual boiler bes920, then oracle bes980, then oracle touch bes990

Probably because there is no explanation.
But for me BES920 (BEP920) is better too.

I personally would pick BES920 over BES980 or BES990 for the following reasons:

These are two major ones for me:
          1. Heat kills coffee - I don't want my grinder to be heated by boilers.
          2. Built-in grinder is average. It is Ok but I want to upgrade to a better one. So there is no point paying for the built-in one I am not going to use.

          Less important:
          3. Most likely I will want to experiment with my tamping. So there is no point playing for the tamping device I am not going to use.
          4. Steaming milk is easy. I am not sure I am going to like automatic steam wand.

So for me BES920 is no-frills espresso machine - just the way I like it. :)

      • Pretty sure groupheads will be similar to bes870 size.
Smaller basket than the bes920 we are used to.

        …..
If the experience between both systems are similar; price will probably drive my decision over this all in one unit.
        …..

Is this unit worth the premium over the current bep920?

  • Is this a dual boiler? (p.s you would think this is the feature they would list on the product page!)

This is a dual boiler with the grinder integrated. If I hadn't already purchased the Barista express pro a few months ago during lockdown I would have purchased the Oracle at this price. The main difference between this and the dual boiler with the separate grinder is this does automatic tamping and automatic milk frothing which you will have to do manually on the dynamic duo set.

On a side note with the speed of the thermojet on the barista express pro you really don't need a dual boiler as the steam comes out within 3 seconds of changing to steam. If you are making a lot of coffees at once the speed of the Oracle might be worth it.

      • Agree with you the Barista Pro is surprisingly instantaneous for the switch from espresso to steam, but I guess with the double boiler you can get a 25 sec head start on frothing the milk simultaneously as you pull your shot

    The Oracle Coffee Machine $1799

The SQL Server one should be a bit cheaper…

      The PostgreSQL one is free

      • I'm still using Ingres.

Good price. It was around $1,500 a few days ago at GG Commercial but that is a very good price for 2020.
Also, this is the "Black Sesame" colour which is apparently discontinued and replaced by the "Black Truffle" colour… They are the same machine as far as I can tell.

      1800 watts for sesame
      2400 truffle

      • Do we know if that makes any real-world difference?

Just as an aside, internals of these things are constantly being upgraded and iterated over the years even when the product code doesn't change. I have a Dual Boiler from 2015 where the service boiler in it is not even the same as the new ones any more, let alone the filter system and some reinforced fittings on the boilers.

        • +1

Probably not. Maybe boils a little quicker. But to be bloody honest this. Machine is a ripper. I got it from the GG deal last week and it smashes my dual boiler out of the park

  • This? or a corner lounge? Or a new bed? lol

This will keep you warmer. 👍

  • Looking for a new one as my 2.5 year old ebay refurb @ $850 is tripping my power circuit every other day.

    • Get that one looked at. Likely a leak / dodgy fuse; neither terribly expensive to replace unless something more insidious is going on. Prob worth the repair than new one

  • Showing Out of Stock.

  • Paid $700 for a refurb on eBay and working great after 2 years.

    • There are a couple on there now $900-920, who did you buy from?
I've been cautious of all refurbs, anything to be aware of?

      • Just checked, bought it from the Bravo_Coffee_Experts. Very happy with them. They even sent me a replacement seal 3 months after purchase.

My purchase price was $725 but there was some eBay deal and it’s says I paid $650

        • I was just looking at them! Thank you

For those that missed out, it'll be $1499 @ The Good Guys when the site updates in a few hours time as per the catalogue :)

Minimal stock it seems so might need to be quick.
