      Different models?

      • +2

Yes, DJ ones are older model "Breville BCG800 and Amazon ones are newest BCG820BSS Pro model.

        • BCG800BSS was released in 2010/11 and has been discontinue for at least 4 to 5 years, I doubt DJ still has such old stock. Most likely error in description.

        • +1

The DJ one is the newest model. I can confirm, saw the sign and its on the recipet.

  • Do I need another grinder for decaf beans…

  • Do I bite the bullet at this price or roll the dice for it to come down another $40. Do Amazon themselves offer price protection or is that only through a credit card?

    • You can return for free within 30 days

Heh, Breville and their covid tax. They did a 20% price increase across the board!

Makes sense - a lot more people working from home and want decent coffee.

  • I want it, I want it but hoping for a better deal :)

Gah need to find a Bambino Plus deal.. hoping they come on Black Friday

    • I'm hanging out for the exact same thing. I read in one of the comments that Good Guys Commercial currently has Bambino Plus for $3XX. Something in the three hundreds, but I didn't see it posted as a deal.

      • +1

        Black Truffle for $361.

        • Wow, that's a great price. Thanks. I've got an ABN, so let's see how long it takes or whether they'll approve my membership. Did you have to do anything special to get yours approved?

          • @rebates: Sign up with Sunsuper to request GGC account from their rewards/partners hub. Takes a few days to activate from the Good Guys from there.

            • @aleayr: Thank you. So you actually have to change your Superannuation across to them, or you just create an account with Sunsuper, with no money in it? Thanks again.

I keep saying this every time I see a deal. It’s all plastic inside including drive gears. All money went into looks unfortunately. Mine failed after couple of years light home use.

    • Mine's been going strong for 3 years with every day use. This is no reason to neg.

Negging may be a bit much (until a better competitor in this price range comes out?) but I've had a similar experience, twice. Both my BCG800 and BCG820 had failed gears after a few years. Just one daily coffee.

It's fixable if you can get a 3D printed drive gear. The one off Thingiverse isn't available anymore though :(
You'll have to get it from somewhere, somehow.

I have sympathy for this comment. And it's not the only one. Doesn't sound like it's a product that will last 5 years.

Given this are there any other cheaper grinders on the market?

    • My BCG800 has been grinding without a hitch since June 2013! These days it's grinding for filter coffee so perhaps less resistance on a coarser grind setting but it did a good 5 years grinding for espresso.

      • What settings do you use?

  • Had one for about 4 years now home use, still going strong. Much better then the old kitchen aid one I had before that. Grind is precise, ceramic grinders still producing a fantastic Crema.

  • I've had one of these grinders for daily home use for about 3 years, it has worked perfectly the whole time and it is highly recommended.
