JB have made this $50 cheaper than their BF Catalogue $899 deal which hasn't started yet. I'm not sure if the price will revert at 7pm or stay at this price now for Black Friday, I assume the later. This was done perhaps to match Telstra offer, however unlike the Telstra offer, you won't need to sign up to a plan and then cancel etc.

JB Link

Edit: Amazon has price matched, main link updated. Thanks superfover.
Edit 2: Officeworks has price matched too. Thanks Uskompuf.

  • Triple rear cameras 12MP (Wide) + 8MP (Telephoto) + 12MP (Ultra Wide) with 30x Space Zoom
  • 6.5” Infinity-O Display with a 120Hz refresh rate
  • Snapdragon 865 Octa-core processor

Note: The 4G version may seem tempting at $100 less, however it comes with a lesser Exynos processor and most OzBargainers would recommend against it.

    touch screen issues stay away

    • +23

Why people downvote a legit PSA . The glaring touchscreen issues which hasn't been fixed is putting me off from getting this.

      • +2

Yep agree. I was so set on getting this and all I see and hear are the unresolved issues.

    • +8

Also as a decade long Samsung user I recommend people stay away from the S20+ as well. It's a battery burning, overheating pile of wasted money. Barely feels improved over the previous 2 models. I read warnings here before I purchased but ignored them as phone wars tripe.

      • +6

As a Samsung user since the very first Galaxy S, the S20+ i have has had zero issues, anyone with issues should seek replacement.

        • Well you have a year on me, I started with S2. My S20+ is a pile of crap.

          • @[Deactivated]: Unlucky, i know my battery life isn't as good as the Snapdragon variant but mine still last's quite a while and ive had no real complaints about it but everything else runs perfectly.

Definitely some good options around, i only went with this cause i has access to the samsung goverment store and got it for a good price otherwise i'd of went for a Oneplus.

        • +3

I had issues with my first S20+ due to consecutive boot loops. After two warranty claims, I was given a new device. Going pretty solid now.

      • +1

Barely feels improved over the previous 2 models….

you could say that about every new phone in last 5 years.

        • +1

My days of buying the latest Samsung when I need a new phone are over. My son's Pixel 4a seems like a good buy, I'll also look at the 5 among other options.

        • Tbh this phone is a downgrade in some respects compared with my old Samsung. I don’t understand how these newer phones are considered bargains at $849. Phones see very small incremental improvements.

    • +2

I pre-ordered this phone and have been using since then. There were two or three software updates and the latest one was released two days ago.

No touch screen issue to me.

Watched many reviews in YouTube before purchasing it. Great upgrade from my old S8.

      Pros - great camera / 120hz / louder speaker
      Good battery life

Cons - fingerprint unlock function is not very accurate
The vibration motor is a bit weak imo.

      • same here I bought mine from Gov EPP store 256 8gb ram model works great.

Never had issues perhaps others are not updating Android OS?

        • I am. Most recent update has made it worse in some ways.

      • Fingerprint is accurate for me. Finger just needs to be clean and dry.

    • thanks for the warning - will wait for another phone deal now

    • What would you suggest as an upgrade to the S10

      • s20?

    • It's true. I've owned it for a month and a half - THIRD UPDATE has still not fixed it. It was fixed for a few hours maximum.

HOWEVER it is absolutely not a deal-breaker. It's only present when pinching to zoom.

  • +1

    Same price at Amazon.

    • Thanks, was waiting for them to update it. I was looking at a colour that hadn't had the price dropped yet.

      • It's been at $900 or above on gumtree/ebay. Funny how it's cheaper to buy Brand New straight through JB Hifi or Amazon.

  • +3

save another 15% with discounted gift cards from Coles tomorrow :)

    • +1

do these gift cards usually run out of stock really quickly or early in the morning & store opening? Does anyone have any experience…?

      • with 15% discount, I would say: get in there early :)

      • +2

I reckon it is going to be a disaster and lots of people will miss out.

    • Only 5 GCs can be used per transaction. Beware.

  • I got this deal from JB on the 19th of October and cancelled the same day to pay out the ETC. I still haven't received a bill from Telstra, does anyone know how long they take?

    • They just send in the hired goons

      /s

    • Did you cancel by porting out or speaking to their online chat?

    • +2

I did the same on the 28th October. No communication from Telstra since then.

      • +1

Good to see that I'm not the only one. I'll just wait another month and see what happens. I kind of recall them saying something about getting a bill after the 2nd cycle?

        • Did you guys port a number or sign up a new one?

          • +1

@bluepop: Wasn't able to sign up to a new one (I asked) had to port. Since I had no intention of staying on the plan, I went into Optus and got a $2 Sim and number to pot into Telstra. Also, they wouldn't let me port from any Telstra carrier (i.e. belong / boost).

            • +1

@Lizard Spock: Thanks. Yes I’m with Belong, so I’ll get another sim

              • +2

@bluepop: Don't make the same mistake I did, which was to top up $10 on the Optus Sim in order to activate it. Apparently you can skip the credit card bit of the Optus activation process by typing in an incorrect card number 3 times.

      • I’m exactly the same. It’s been months and still haven’t paid the ETC

    • +4

I signup on the 28th Oct and cancelled on the 30th Oct and got the first pro-rata bill on the 2nd Nov and got the ETC bill on the 15th Nov

      28th Oct - Signup
30th Oct - Cancel after a long negotiation to get some discount on the ETC
      2nd Nov - First pro-rata bill arrive $6++
15th Nov - Final bill arrive for the remaining ETC amount (discount not shown here but will be in their system)

    • I did the same, cancelled via online chat and got the bill from telstra about a week later (due about a month after that).

    • They need time to put you on blacklist.

  • Damn I thought this phone had 8gb of ram

  • Happy to give this phone a go, hopefully the software updates have resolved the touch screen issues. $849 is a solid price

    • +1

I've heard it survived a couple of fix attempts via software so may be hardware glitch they can't work out

  • +2

    Same price at Officeworks

  • +1

Fe 5g is the one I would buy from Samsung recent years only because it has SD chips than in-house one. However I am happy with my current phone.

  • +2

with the "her/him/kids/teen" gift cards (honestly, i'm not taking the piss at gender politics this time) at coles tomorrow for a further 15% off (if they don't cancel the offer)

    • What denominations do the cards come in?

      • +1

whatever is on the shelf, if there are any left!

      • $50 or $100 according to what I've read.

    • Only 5 GCs can be used per transaction. Beware.

  • +4

My S20 FE phone was assesed my Samsung as "no fault" and returned to me with latest software update. Pinch to zoom is mostly fine now - laggy scrolling is fixed. I'd say it's much better now - but still hesitate to reccomend it.

    • +1

This is why I haven't bothered taking my phone in, they don't test real world conditions. They probably factory reset and test it for 2 minutes before saying it's acceptable and returning it to you. I had an issue with my 8+ battery that I had to take it in 3 times before they accepted that the battery was badly fatigued within 18 months to the point that it would die before midday.

      • Yeah the notes indicate they just flashed latest software/firmware, tested and said it was fine. To be fair the issue is mostly resolved now with the latest update. I won't say 100% resolved as I only received it yesterday, but it's much better.

  • lol lucky, I help a friend sold her S20 FE 5G last Thursday for $800 cash.

  • This or s20 ???

  • which gift cards are 15 percent discount?

    • Deal post

In store at Coles, starting tomorrow.

      • Only 5 GCs can be used per transaction. Beware.

  • +1

Still umming and ahhing about this vs Pixel 5.

    • As a long time Pixel user, I'm happy with the S20 FE 5G. I thought I would miss the pure pixel experience but the Samsung software has come a long way.

  • $846.09 from allphones ebay with PTETE15

  • +2

I'm about 90% happy with this phone.
the 10% is niggling annoyances like basically no choice for most accessories (cases, screen protectors) and There's no proximity sensor so the thing has no idea how to turn the screen off and keep it off during a call.
I haven't had any touch screen issues (yet). It's the 5G model so maybe that's it, but i doubt it.

    • There's no proximity sensor

I think not working, how is it possible for a $900 phone without proximity sernsor.

      • LOL. That would be funny when my HTC desire hd from the stone age has it.

        • Yeah, even <100 phone have it.

          • @superforever: I am sure those phones came with a charging brick and headphone jack too.

      • Dunno, I googled the problem and people were saying it doesn't have one, or has a "virtual" proximity sensor based on the camera.

      • +1

It uses AI and the front camera to detect your face (ears) when on calls. It was a bit glitchy at first and would not turn the screen off while on a call, but the latest November update has fixed it perfectly for me. I'm using the 256gb 5g version.

        • LOL, $900 phone without proimity sensor XD, what are they thinking.

          • +1

@superforever: It's actually innovative and should not be laughed at. It eliminates the need for a notch and reduces costs so provided it can be done using AI and the camera, it's a great thing.

  • Genuine question, will price drop further on boxing day for S20 FE? Or this is a hard to beat deal?

    • +1

I can't see it dropping much more before the end of the year. I pulled the trigger on it.

  • JB's now showing $849 for this!

    • +1

Yeah this deal post was for both JB and Amazon. I've reworded the description and it was unclear.

  • This or the OnePlus 7T Pro Mclaren Edition with SD855/12GB/256GB for $749?

    • I like the look of the 7T but I'll be picking up one of the 20FE 5G's for my wife to replace her S8 - I'm afraid that she's heavily ingrained/biased towards the Samsung UI and cannot be swayed..

      • +1

The bling look and popup selfie-cam might charm her

        • +1

          I've tried mate, believe me…. :)

      • +1

Ha ha I completely understand. I was trying to convince my wife to get the Oppo Reno 4 and explained that all android phones are good and she goes "but Samsung android is better than Oppo android." Ended up getting the S20 FE through EPP. No touch screen issues so far :)

      • haha dude same here, my wife is madly in love with samsung don't know why. I was also planning to get s20 for her but not sure if the price on 20FE will drop further on or before boxing day. Any thoughts?

Hi OP, can you update the post title with TGG price and the following link, they have it for $848, didn't want to start a totally new post for the sake of a dollar ;)

  • Thanks OP.

After a lot of hesitation - was going to get a pixel 5 - the s20 FE deal is too good. Shame there isn't a deal on the 256gb one.

    • +1

I'm spewing myself, I paid about $869 a couple of weeks ago, but its all good. Its a good phone so far, I know people are complaining about the screen issues, but the software updates seem to be good so far.

  • Officeworks refused to price match, saying that the Good Guys model number is not the same. They pointed to TGG's own product code, and claimed that the phones are not the same, or from different manufacturers.

  • I'm missing a sim ejector tool from my s20 FE box. Not that I need one but is this a new thing now that manufacturers don't include the tiny Sim ejector pin?

    • It does come with one.

Inside the lid, there's a removable box. The sim ejector is attached to that.

      • Thanks mate. Lol. Odd packaging or it was just me really

  • +1

I managed to grab one for $829 at JB Hi-Fi, very happy.

Ask if they can do any better when you go in.

    • +1

receipt? i might try this now and it's easier to show something when negotiating rather than saying "some guy".
