    OMG WTF BBQ from COTD

  • -8

it's catchoftheday !! Average delivery time from them take more than 4 weeks.

    • They usually take 1-2 weeks for me…

    • The product you linked to is more expensive?

      Why the neg?

    • thats not even the same thing and its more expensive…
      your point?

  • I think its a pretty decent deal, Just bought one so I can bring it on my fishing trips. Looks much more convenient then the single burner ones at other retailers, you could use the hot plate or 2 stove converter
Ebay sell it for $136, COTD is $64.90

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/U-Bute-Portable-Camping-2-Burner-…

    • wow 39 people bought for $136 lol! haha!

not a fan of COTD for screwing me countless times with the catchathons in the past but this seems pretty good for the price :P

      • I've never experienced any problems with COTD besides the long postage time, I reckon I'll get my orders from ozgameshop and Zavvi before I get this BBQ =P

I wouldn't pay $136 for this, that's no bargain but I guess people have money to spend lol

      • same, not a fan of COTD.
they couldn't deliver on the laptop a few weeks back (part of their catchathon).

but this seems like a good deal, suckered in again :(

  • Has COTD just gone down for anyone else or just me?

  • Has COTD just gone down for anyone else or just me? Seems to be the "secure checkout" part.

this OzBargain page is also showing some loading issues lol.

    • lol, Ozbargain and COTD websites are working fine for me. Donno about the secure checkout but I bought half an hour ago

All fine - just bought one with PayPal - thanks OP

  • Bugger. I'm after a portable stove exactly like this that can be connected to LPG. Any ideas?

  • Thanks for this post, have been looking for something like this for a while. Hopefully it will be hot enough to do a good steak.

    good xmas pressie too.

    • +2

Don't ruin your steak by cooking it on a portable frying pan device such as this. BBQ it! How can anyone call something a BBQ that doesn't even have a grill? The whole point of cooking food on a BBQ is to get that awesome smoked/grilled flavour.

Save up some dough and buy a Webber Baby Q. Well worth the investment. Your steak will be cooked perfectly every time!

      • +2

Hear what you're saying mate… other alternative at the moment is to use my crappy electric oven and a frying pan…at $50, I'm willing to take the risk and see if it's better/quicker to make quick meals.

        • Less risky proposition is a portable gas stove which with 4 butane cylinders shouldn't set you back more than $20. Less bells and whistles but the teflon hotplate they mention sounds poor, better off with a decent pan. Good luck with the steak though.

      • haha 300$ with 5x the size and huge gas cylinder VS 50$ portable bbq.. know whch one id be taking away with me.. not too fussed for my snags and burgers

        • The webber baby Q goes away with me. Much better than a slow butane burner that does not get hot enough and takes ages to cook stuff on. But yes it is bigger.

9.95 postage to Melbourne! Great purchase. but all comes down to how efficnt it is the heat the bbq and cook on before u gota replace the cans.. Anyone got one of these know what its like??

    • +4

Yes, downvote the man for asking a question.

      • Yeah, what's with the -ve votes? He was just asking a question.

        Talk about sensitive people!

  • +1

How safe is this thing?? Anyone try this bbq before or something similar?

  • Just be careful with those gas cannisters. People have been seriously injured as they are easy to set alight

    http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:spicot7…

Sorry for the poor link but you get my drift.

    • i get your drift, but it is meaningless. every and any thing can seriously injure people

    • Link refers to the USA idea of a 'gas can' - which looks to be our equivalent of the ubiquitous red plastic 5/10/20 litre petrol canisters.

Getting oxygen into a pressurized butane canister is a whole different ballgame.

Still, some Darwin award contender will attempt to stress test such canisters by, say, throwing them on a fire, heating them in an oven, or otherwise insisting that the bounds of their own mortality need to be tested - frequently.

Best not to be around such peoples. For the rest of us, using butane canisters is likely to be rather safer than crossing the road - with or without said butane canister in our pocket.

  • expensive to run? Those little gas cans don't last long….I think a better solution would be a gas stove or small bbq….

We have one of the single burner cookers and have found we get surprisingly good life from a single canister. I also came accross a space heater that runs on them on chuck-out at BigW several months back - hubby used it in the shed on those frosty mornings. He found he got about 7 hours running time from one canister. at $1.25 that's not bad value. Incidentally for those who do purchase this, if you go to buy cylinders for this and they want to charge you more than $5 for a pack of 4, you're being ripped off. Kmart is one I can think of who has them for that price all the time.

  • Not a bad self contained unit. However I would prefer to pay $15 in Kmart for a simple burner style one and use a fry pan on top.

    • Yeah this is what i've got for camping but i'm thinking about a gas stove with a small gas bottle to save on buying the butane…. How much of a saving it would be??? I'm not sure..

  • FYI on the u-bute site it says running time is about 10-12 hours on medium setting not bad, so 7-8 on high setting sounds about right not bad i say for family camping and outings.

On u-bute site geez postage $33 how postage differs got two from cotd for 14.95 delivered not bad for xmas gift.

  • even though I want this and posted it I still haven't bought one. Cause I think in future the retail price will be $50 in Crazy Clarks stores.

ehhh THATS THE PRICE NOW! donkey

      • its not that elsewhere besides cotd

  • Similar type of portable stove available from ALDI about 2 months ago but without the top Teflon plate.

    http://aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_19119.htm

    • doesnt come with carry case either. if ud buy all seperate ud be paying more plus the hassle

  • Look for the gas cans on sale at Bunnings and supermarkets. I got my last cans for $4.95 a pack of 4 at Bunnings.

    • +3

If you go to Asian grocers you can get like 4 pack for 4 dollars. Just saying :)

  • Edit: Nevermind I just saw it was sold out

  • YEW BEWDY!

    Got my 2 today, but…

Were the plastic slide clips that hold the carry case shut broken on yours?

Both of mine had one clip broken each. Makes me wonder if these are all factory rejects.

    • +1

I ordered two as well, have only checked one, but the clips are OK on it.

I'll check the other and let you know…

      • Ok ta. Will put my tinfoil hat away now.

        • clips on both bbq cases were fine for me… BUT on both BBQs the left side butane can holder won't lock.

          have you tried yours?

You can actually see a physical difference between the two sides….

I've managed to get the left side locking by wedging something in there, but definitely not good!

        • Mine both had dodgy right hand side butane locks. I just bent the little tab inside there, which seemed to kinda work.

    • Got mine today and one of my plastic clips on the case was broken too. WTF! I'm not happy with this, I'm gonna send it back and I urge everyone to do the same. I know it's just a clip, but it's essential to keep the case closed. Without it the case is useless.

I also noticed the can holder doesn't lock either, but I don't have any butane cans so I wasn't sure if it might only lock properly once a can is inserted. I will buy some cans tonight and then try it again. I gotta say, I'm disappointed that no cans came with it, for some reason i was under the impression it would come with cans.

      • Mdippa, if it doesn't lock without the cans in, it won't lock with them in. I did find that if I hold the lock leaver down for a bit and slowly take my hand off it it would stay, but as soon as there is a bump it springs back to unlock.

How does COTDs return policy work? Do you have to pay for shipping to them?

I am disappointed that there is an actual QC pass sticker on both gas sections. How can it pass if it doesn't lock???

Stumo, can you look inside the left gas canister holder and tell me if it looks the same as the right? If you look at the metal part which goes up and down, my right side has a bend while the left doesn't.

        • Mine looks the same on both sides.

  • got mine today. still gotta buy some can's to test it out

  • Hi All just got this BBQ(what a joke)as present & tried but except Fish everything was Shit House U can't compare this with other BBQs.Plz Dont waste ur money on this rest on u Gud Luck

    • +1

I cooked 4 pieces of inch thick porterhouse on mine and it was perfect. Maybe you need lessons?

      • I agree with Stumo, I've found this BBQ to be perfect for my needs (aside for the lock issue). Obviously it's not comparable to something like the WebberQ, but everything I've cooked on it has come up well…I'm not a die hard BBQer, but for the price I think it's great.
