    Repost
This is the best Ozbargain price for this phone, makes this the best value phone 2020, IMO.
Brought the A72 for $250 (128gb) from the previous post office shop deal, locked to optus.
    Some thoughts:
    - Battery is the best of any phone I had before (5000mAh and SN665). Easily two and half days of light usage, one full day usage. Switch on auto-sleep to save battery.
    - Camera is meh on stock. Contrast towards the blue end, low light is mid-tier level. Gcam is better, however buggy but workable. This is for the A72, I assume it won't be better on A52.
    - After 4 month of usage, no noticeable general slowdown yet.
    - Security updates are steady. Lets hope it gets at least another year. Usual track record of updates on non-flagship second-tier manufactures are not great.
    - People thought this was a flagship due to the full screen and somewhat misleading multi-camera setup
    - Obligatory NFC and Band 28.

Recommended few friends into buying this as a budget general phone, they all were surprised of the value. Comes with a clear TPU case and screen protector applied.
As I don't game on my phone these days, this phone at under $300 exceeds all my expectations, even crazier value now at under $200. Won't be paying $500 for a Mid-tier-flagship-killer-hype phone no more.

    • $199 was good to be true, I guess.

    • How would this compare to a first generation Google Pixel?

    • I disagree, last time the A72 was on sale I priced matched it at Big W and then stacked with staff discount to bring it down to $224.10.

That would be a bargain considering its 128gb storage and marginally better camera.

    • Yes totally agree. I just bought an A52 a couple of weeks ago when my Samsung S5 died. I really didn't have the funds to pay for another over-hyped over-priced Samsung especially when I never use most of the features. I just wanted a phone with a good battery, decent screen that would make calls and send messages and occasionally use Netflix/Stan etc
It's been excellent so far, and battery lasts for days. I grabbed a cheap $9 wallet cover from ebay and now I'm happy.

      • Did exactly the same thing (S5 replacement and $9 wallet cover). Very happy
Never ever going to pay for a top tier phone again.

  • Well that sucks.

    Hijacking the thread a little.
Can any Sage direct me how to unlock A72 (optus locked) at the cheapest and safest way?
    Many thanks in advance.

Got a friend or family member with Optus? Get their details and try via the Optus website.
If you find the web page doesn't allow the phone to be unlocked, use their chat service and lodge a call.
About a week later you get the code. Then google a bit and find how to enter the code into the phone, took me a few different attempts before success. A bit painful but all very possible.

      • Excellent to hear. Did the staff member ask how long the phone was in use for ?

  • What is "P/B" that's in the title?

    • +1

Oh that's price beat at Officeworks, I'll link to their price beat guarantee :)

    • Price Beat, or Price Match.

  • Excellent phone. I bought it a month or so ago primarily because I get patchy mobile reception at work and it supports VoLTE/VoWiFi with Telstra/Boost

  • Anyone know how this would compare against a budget Samsung, like a A21 or A31?

    • +3

Better than A21, however A31 is much better overall. The P65 is actually better CPU wise (Cortex A75 and A55 vs aging Cortex A73 and A53 on the SD665), big AMOLED screen with Widevine L1 and generally better camera. Also more RAM & Storage.

A31 however is a lot more expensive. Best price was $299 before.

      • Thanks for the detail! Agree A31 better but is it double the price better…hmm.

    Back to $249

  • +3

    Link goes to $249

  • Does it have Gorilla glass? And how does it compare to Redmi Note 8T?

  • Well done to those that got in.

  • Damn. I was ready to buy the gift cards tommorow :(

    • Lol, I was ready to buy now probably with hundreds of others.

    • Still only $211.65 with gift cards tomorrow :)

      • +1

Eh I'll wait it out till Christmas or Boxing Day

        • Yea I might wait too. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 also comes out very soon so it should bring down the price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T/Xiaomi Redmi 9 NFC

  • +1

So why has it expired already?

    • +4

Must have been a price error

  • Don't suppose anybody has a screenshot @ $199?

    Thanks

  • technically $212.50 as you buy the giftcards in multiples of $50 or $100.

    • Bah… "UPDATE: cards not activate or not scanning/discount at checkout. Coles are pulling all cards out and refund. Some people reported some cards are fine. Wait until this is resolved. Such a shame."

      • why dont just price beat with officework with screenshot provided above?

        • Officeworks won't price beat from a screenshot, they'll check the price on the JB website.

  • +2

Got one $199 at a local JB Store as they priced it at $199, they removed the wrong price tag after my checkout

    • Haha that's awesome, glad you could still get the discounted price!
