Available in-Store but Not Click and Collect

I've seen this a few times across different Click and Collect retailers where an item is available for 'in-store' purchase but isn't available for C&C.
How is this even a thing ?

  • This is quite common as stock / inventory for online channel might be separate to the in store inventory.

    • It should all be just store stock. If I wanted different channels I'd chuck the telly on :-)

It could also be that they only allow C&C if there is a certain number of units to prevent issues.

Example. If they only have 1 unit left and you purchase it online. In the time it takes for someone to go onto the floor and collect it, another customer may have picked it up to purchase. Somewhere like target/bigW you could even have someone walking around with it in their trolley but there is no way for the online store to know that it's no longer available.

So it likely turns off C&C if the stock falls below X units.

        • Somewhere like target

          I can attest to this.

Target website said stock of a particular item was low stock. I could click and collect, but had to wait a few days for it to be transferred from another store.

Decided to just go in, and luckily found one left on shelf.

I agree, if there's low stock, then it's too much effort for a retailer to go on the floor looking for what might be a stock counting error (ie. it might not even exist).

I really doubt that they do it just to annoy you. Although that is possible. More likely, it's something about the way that their stock management or accounting systems work, and it's not anything that the retail store itself can do anything about.

    Its usually stock level related.
If something is low stock they tend not to offer C+C to avoid disappointment.
This means staff have time to pick an item before it sells out.
If its low stock, chances are that it will sell before it can be set aside for your order.

  • Thanks all

You seem to be in NSW, I'm not surprised this happened to you.
