Would this be worth picking up for the PS5? Heard it was pretty meh on release but did it get the No Mans Sky treatment and get better?

    • -5

Nope. Its a single player story-based gamed. They're not going to add content like No Mans Sky did.

Also 82 on Metacritic is a fair way past meh.

      • +3

        meh

      • +1

Cold War got a 77 on Metacritic so I can tell you first hand how much those ratings mean.

        • +4

Not sure which direction this comment is leaning in

          • @customundo: That ratings don't mean anything. I am a CoD fan, but CW is arse.

    • +3

You can't do up a game where the main mechanic is you're a glorified delivery guy

      • +2

Fallout New Vegas is pretty good with mods though

      • +15

They don't need to. The game is what it is. Its not for everyone and that's fine.

For people that are able to get into it, they get an incredibly unique gaming experience. I'm all for a AAA title that tries something different and doesn't go for just mass appeal.

Considering its sitting at 82 on Metacritic, Very Positive on Steam and just won a best PC game of the year award I would say plenty of people think its a great game.

        • +1

best PC game of the year - this year has been pretty weak with games TBH

        • +1

This comment is spot on. It is almost exactly as it needs to be. My only complaint would be that the late-game gets a little too easy, but I understand that it is by design. If anything, I just wish the map were bigger, because the greatest joy in this game is traversing new landscapes and trying to find the best path to your destination.

    • +2

Get EB to price match and that way you can return it if you don’t like it.

I for one, hated it, got bored as hell.

    • I found it brilliant on release but it's an extremely niche game (how Sony allowed Kojima to make a niche game I'll never know). It hasn't had any treatment because it is exactly as it's meant to be, for better or worse.

  • +1

It does start off slowly but does get better on later on.

    • +4

      with more deliveries to complete?

      • Yep, pretty much.

    • +1

How many hours are we talking before things get interesting?

      • +1

Interesting story-wise or gameplay-wise? I actually found the early-mid game to be the most engaging, gameplay-wise. It's essentially a 3D puzzle + stealth game - you're trying to find the best way to your destination using ladders, ropes, etc while avoiding the ghost guys. The later the game goes, the more tools you get, and it starts to make things a little too easy, but initially it does feel quite rewarding to make things easier.

Story-wise, the game is kinda odd. It has the highest story density in the start and end, and the middle has it just sprinkled throughout.

        • Thanks for your reply, actually has made me interested. Gonna pick up and add to my backlog.

          • @astrotrain: Just adding my agreement that early game is very engaging.

Tapers off in the mid game (I stopped playing there).

But I read it picks up again the the late game.

First 5 hours are very cool, unique, trippy even.

Thanks, low enough to pull the trigger.

  • Thanks for the tip. Still might pass on this one…

I am disappointed Sony studios are not patching their games for PS5. I guess the reason for it is the console sells well even without many optimized games for it.

  • The only strand type of game

  • will this be usable on ps5?

    • +2

Yes, There are only like 10 games that aren't backwards compatible.

  • +2

Best game I've played in years.

    • +2

What's the best thing about the game? I wanna get it but hearing mixed reviews

      • +12
        • It dares to be different, unlike almost all games in this genre it isn't just a character walking around endlessly fighting or shooting enemies

        • The "mailman" and "walking simulator" type game dynamics is really cool, you have to pay attention to the world and what you're carrying, plan and adjust yourself accordingly. Something I haven't seen before.

        • It's the first game I've played to have a decent story line and character build up. By the end of the game I actually felt for the main character and his little companion.
They also incorporate the actors into the character so well, I actually felt like I was controlling Norman Reedus

        • The backdrop and music marry together so well, a lot of the time you're just walking around but the detail in the world, the detail in the way the character walks and the music is really calming and satisfying

        • It's as satisfying as watching a good movie. I like to play games on easy so I can get through it, and although the dialogue is heave, it has subtitles so you can read the dialogue quicker than they speak it and you can skip sentences, so you don't miss what's being said but you can read it quicker than watching it. I don't think I've seen this option in any other game.

        • The game is really long, just to get through the main story is one of the longest I've played which makes it goof value then there's hundreds of hours more if you want to go though and finish every mission.

        • Even though the story tries to act serious and deep. The writer's have fun with it and take the piss out of itself on several occasions in the dialogue and little jokes here and there.. "Princess Beach"

Overall it engaged me really well, I kept wanting to go back. Towards the end I got a bit fatigued so I just finished the main story and sold the game. But everytime I see a deal like this I want to get it again and keep playing. Maybe one day when I have more time.

        • +2

Thanks for your detailed reply. I'm sold on the game. Will order now!

        • Princess Beach was (profanity) awful… but otherwise great game.

        • So true, especially the music!

When the words "why/don't be so serious" came through the speakers I almost laughed, and started relaxing and just enjoying the game rather than trying so hard to git gud.

      • Someone already covered the reasons, but keep in mind it's got mixed reviews because it's quite a niche game. It's not for everyone.

  • I saw mixed reviews but the game looks stunning so I grabbed it. Was hoping that Amazon would price match as I don't have a Target or BigW around that has it in stock.

  • Is this out on xbone yet

    • Only on PC, I doubt it will come to Xbox, it is a Sony game.

  • Might actually be worth picking up now

Why not support the Aussie shops that moved first on price?

    • Because people are all about "yeah, let's support local businesses blah blah" but when it's time to choose with their own wallet they go with the cheapest / more convenient, regardless of any of other values. Sad. :(

      • +2

Would Target go out of their way for me? If I was struggling, would Target bail me out?

Sure, if I was at Target and saw it, I would get it. But I prefer free shipping and GREAT customer service. Last time I was at Target and asked about a product, I got a, "Sighhhhhhh, yessss?"

        Sorry, but GO AMAZON!!

        • I see your argument, but you are comparing apples and oranges.

          But I prefer free shipping

This is not free shipping. It is free if you are paying for Prime in the first place, in the same way Target does free delivery over $45.
Sure, Target won't have the same service as Prime, but you cannot claim it is free delivery with a blanket statement.

Last time I was at Target and asked about a product, I got a, "Sighhhhhhh, yessss?"

When was the "Last time I was at Amazon and asked about a product"? … Oh yeah, Amazon doesn't have physical stores… ;) so again, not a valid comparison.

Don't get me wrong, it is fine to have preferences - I have mine - just compare the right things.

          • @mrklaus: I guess their online chat could have replied with, "Sighhhh, you again?" That's like for like, it's customer service. Doesn't matter where it is, physical, online or on the phone.

No, I'm paying for Prime yes, but it's not $45 a month, it's $6.99, the savings pay for itself. OzBargin speaks for its value for how much deals Amazon continues to throw up.

I get what you are saying, but comparisons not need to be so black and white. The context is key.

            • +1

@RocketSwitch: :) good, I see we have fair points, despite the different views I think we had a constructive discussion.

In any case, I see we both like Zelda, so that's good enough for me.

    • +4

      Because:

      • Hard to find stock at local stores.
      • At times, you are not getting a sealed copy of the game.
      • Queues, some retail stores use multi queues systems. Problem is, you have no way of knowing whether the people in front of you are doing refunds (which can take a while).
      • Maccas' rubbish retail vouchers from Monopoly offer. The really annoying and hard to use Amazon voucher. Despite that, I want Amazon to honour it.
    • The only Aussie shop that moved first is Big W, no? Other companies are American (Target and EB Games). Sadly, Big W does not have that many stores, and they charge for shipping.

      • +1

Australian Target has no relation to US Target - Look in the footer of the target.com.au site and you'll see "Target Australia Pty Ltd is part of the Wesfarmers Ltd group and has no affiliation with Target Corporation US". Also Kmart is owned by Wesfarmers too, no relation to the US one. You're right on EB games though!

  • I think it is out of stock, can't add to cart

  • $20 and you get to hear the poor voice acting for the Chiral Artist…
But don't let a sub-character stop you, this is a great deal!

  • Damn missed it now have to move my own ass to BIGW to get it :P
