      yes. you just have to print out your Platinum card number and give it to them when you stay and then its activated, and card is sent

    I am already a Gold Member (joined from previous OzBargain post), however cannot upgrade to Platinum. Message says "The given promotion code doesn't exist". Might just sign the wife up instead.

    meh I signed up and got it BUT I won't receive a card until after my first stay at one of their hotels. Just a gimmick

      "You will receive an e-mail confirming your member number. Please allow 24 hours before using your member number to make reservations on-line. Remember to print it and keep it in a safe place.
      Your A|Club card will be sent to you after your first stay.

    My email I received says I will receive my card within 2 weeks. No mention of staying at hotel first or anything. Mind you I was already a peasant member (classic) and I have never used my card before…maybe I will now :)

    You DON"T get a discount of the room rate, you earn points like frequent flyer points. Stiff POO!

      Getting a free upgrade of the room effectively is a discount. If you're lucky, you might even get upgraded from their cheapest $200/night room to a $600/night suite, as I was with Hilton a few weeks ago (I'm the equivalent status to A|Club Platinum with Hilton's HHonors).

      Late checkout can also be very handy to some travellers — 4pm checkout gives you another half day in the room for no extra cost.

    Once upon a time having some 'platinum' card was reserved for the affluent. Nowadays every bogan has one. Makes people feel good about themselves. This isn't a bad deal (as I signed up for it too) but there isn't really that much in it.
