    • Plugpack, 12V, 1.5A. They include a noise supressor on the cord. I'd be careful using a non-WD unit in case of warranty issues. When my replacement power supply arrives, I'll be +1 as I replace smaller drives…

    • Beware of scam once you log a support ticket with WD for a replacement AU adapter.

The scammers knew of all my details when they called but I gave fake credit card details.

  • I just placed an order for 3 units for RAID first, waiting to see if there's even better deals tomorrow.

  • If you want to add or upgrade your parity drives, better to buy a faster 7200rpm drive.
    Fast parity drive helps.

  • I requested an AU adapter and still waiting for a month!

Dont need them if just going to shuck….

      • +1

You do if you want to test and run a scan on the drive before ripping it out of its container

    • I bend the pins to AU angles?

      • +2

This comes from UK not US, the pins are quite different, much thicker

    • Time to buy a international travel adapter, at least you can use it till it arrive.

  • I've pulled the trigger on two of these to upgrade my NAS. Any suggestions on the best way to migrate my current setup to the new drives? Everything is nicely set up… can I move to the new drives without breaking my Plex and other apps?

I have x2 2TB drives set up as one 4TB drive btw

  • Ordered, thanks OP.

  • What hard drive do these have?

  • +1

Sheesh they shipped already and I'm still waiting to see if there are better deals…easy to return even if it comes from Amazon UK?

    • The price won't drop much… Unless you're buying multiples I wouldn't worry about it. It did drop crazy last time to $250's for a few hours (from memory) but will you really feel bad if that happens again and you blew $20 (after CB) to secure the drive in case there were no future better deals?

Unless you mean deals on 14/16TB drives which is always possible.

You got a good price on an awesome drive. I just got 1 more to make 5.

Kinda what the uhge blurb in OP's post was about

  • Ordered thanks Ops.

Hi, forgive me if this is wrong but can we not just use the provided UK adapter by using a standard UK -> AU plug adapter since both countries use 230v?

  • Bought 3 (and an extra one on a friends account) The 6 I currently own (4 in my about-to-be-decomissioned Win7 PC, I had to finally get with the W10 times) have served me well. the 4 new ones will go into a NAS and the existing ones will be retired and re-housed as backup drives.
No "linux distros", but plenty of legal content chews up heaps of data (Drones, RAW photos, plus I rip my Blu-rays and CD's)

  • Pretty good price - below the de minimis for duty too, so just GST to worry about (according to dutify.com at least)

    • +1

GST is already in the price, no extra duties are payable.

      • Ah even better!

  • Looks like the price came down from $281.39 to $279.65 right after mine shipped.

    • Yeah I noticed that too. Perhaps AUD forex related.

  • OK, so I ordered on the 29th. Still no delivery confirmation? Should I be worried?

  • Holy cow! My drive arrived today! Wasn't expecting it for another week! Now to order the AU plug.

    • Same here! Amazon was telling me it wouldn't arrive till Dec 30th! Must of had stock at the Sydney warehouse or something. You could also use a travel adapter while waiting for WD to ship one out. I have heard no reply yet from them :(

      • If you check your tracking it’s come from the UK warehouse. Delivery from the UK for these drives is always quick for me. Usually 7-9 days in total, mine is on for arrival today which would be 8 days.

  • What is people standard testing prior to shucking?

    • I run an extended self test with HD Sentinel. About 21 hours it reckons.

  • Didn't expect them to arrive today in the post (ETA was 19th Dec), crystal disk info said all 3 HDD were WD120EMFZ

    • 4th drive came in today and it was also a WD120EMFZ

  • Arrived today - can confirm it's a WD120EDAZ 12 TB drive.

    • +2

      Mine was a WD120EMFZ

      • Got another one I'll open up this weekend, will report back.

  • got my 2 drives today.
what programs best to scan check before i pop them in my nas..

    • +1

I had to wait for my AU plug. Now that it's arrived, I'm running an extended self test with HD Sentinel. It says it's going to take about 21 hours.

      • i got lucky as my au plugs came day before.
would of meant i could only check 1 at time due to only 1 older power supply.
thx for the time heads up.. saves me checking where its at going damn this takes forever on these big suckers lol….

        • Ended up taking 20 hours and 42 minutes.

          • @blamesociety: 20:01:30
            I win lol
Pc was b450 3600 so maybe that helped.
Also had small fan on it to keep temp down

            • @roosterman: Mine was my work laptop. That drive gets way too hot in that enclosure that's for sure. It will be much more comfortable shucked.
