Any one know if this is better or the crucial mx500? Appreciated

    • +2

      Basically the same thing.

      • thx

    • +4

they are both great Sata SSD's but the 860 evo slightly edges it out. If you really want a fast SSD look at the Gen4 NVME drives… These old school sata's really can't compete if what you need is fast storage.

      • thank you

      • I agree with 15fps740m I think the 860 EVO is just that little bit better but you wont really notice a difference in real life.

      • Don't really need to go Gen4 to get a speed bump, I got a 1tb Silicon Power p34a80, in my laptop which I understand only uses two PCIE lanes, I got 1000MiB sustained copying 50 GB , so 1000GiB read AND write at the same time.

If endurance is your thing, when both are at 1TB storage: the Samsung 860 EVO seems to be better with 600TBW vs the 360TBW from the Crucial MX500.
Speed wise the Crucial MX500 has 560MB/s read and 510MB/s write, vs Samsung having 550MB/s read and 520MB/s write.
      Info from:

      and
      https://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/c…

If they are at the same price I'd get the Samsung 860 EVO.

With regards to the Gen4(PCIE4) NVME drives… Those are for transferring massive files constantly. Workstation type storage. You wouldn't use it to install your OS or games on it as you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a PCIE3 or PCIE4 NVMe drive except the price. I'm not even sure if people can tell the difference between SATA SSD's and PCIE3 NVMe's for games/everyday usage.

Have a look at this guy's flowchart if you are having trouble narrowing down the type of storage you want:

  • Would this be faster than a Kingston A2000 1tb nvme?

    • +1

      No way, José!

    • +3

nvme always wins out for speed, but you wouldn't feel much of a difference when loading games.

      • Thanks for the replies. I have the Kingston but looking for a second drive for storage or windows if faster than the Kingston.

I spose the free AC excited me.

  • to upgrade my laptop a friend of mine suggested below SSD that is compact with my laptop

    • +1

Go for whichever is the better deal. Much of a muchness. Overall the Samsung is better.

      • compactability - r they both same - would samsung fit into

        • +1

You mean compatibility…. yes they are the same form factor and connection.

    • samsung is heaps better than WD blue.

  • +2

Shipping of $17 killed the deal for me.

    • you get a free copy of AC valhalla so not bad

  • Anyone having issues checking out?

  • +2

    $142.60 Inc Shipping FYI

        • +2

whoops you're right :D time to go to sleep I guess

  • Thanks OP. Was waiting for this. Lucky enough to CC.

  • Shipping seems to be free if cart total is above $200.
At least it was for me.

  • +5

Grabbed one, got free shipping since Heatherton VIC had no stock and i could enter address for free delivery.

    • how did you get free shipping? did you mean you can pick up from Heatherton from a free stock transfer?

      • +1

I opted for pick up, but in the My Orders page after placement it said eligible for free shipping, just had to add in address.

    • Same but shows up as 11.82 shipping for me. Does your order go over $200?

  • can i sell the the game if i dont want to play it?

    • +2

I haven't personally dealt with Samsung deals before but I got COD: Modern Warfare 2019 via a ROG Strix redemption and it was directly linked to my GPU. When one of my mates went to put the code in to redeem it, a message popped up saying hardware not detected and would not let him claim the code. Might be the same for Samsung but could also be different.

      • I've read other thread on Ozbargain and someone said it's redeemable through code and it's transferable.

      • That would be within the Nvidia Geforce app that checks the hardware, with an SSD there is no app you need, should just be either a key or account sign-in.

  • Already have a nvme ssd. Decided to get a sata ssd this time for my b550 mobo. Apparently x2, nvmes can clog up the lanes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

    • Normally your board will have specified lanes that will either be Sata 5&6 or NVMe.

  • Thanks OP, I grabbed 2 units & shipping to Gold Coast was $17.87 total

  • Thanks OP grabbed 1. Anyone know how to go about claiming the AC Valhalla game? Provide a step by step guide please?

  • +3

Guesing the deal is over, showing as $189 for me now

    • Same here :(

      • I shouldn't have waited to make a coffee before ordering……

    • wow I ordered just a few minutes before your comment it seems and must have gotten lucky

Centrecom has same for $161 delivered if that helps but still $20 more than this

  • +4

    Showing as $189 here

  • +5

Has this expired?? It's showing $189 for me.

    • Same for me. I think it might've expired.

    • Yep, same.

  • +1

Price not showing. allocated deal units OOS?

  • +1

    No longer valid. Expired

  • The PC game is included from Samsung side so its not store specific offer so you can get it from few other participating stores too. I am quite tempted to get this too but I have Dell Inspiron 7348 Series 2-in-1. And as per Dell's tech support my model can only support 256GB SSD or 512GB HDD on same SATA port. I understand that motherboard can put some cap on max capacity on storage but feels bit strange to have 2 different capacity on same SATA port purely based on technology used in drive.

  • anyone have print screen showing price on website they are willing to forward me? would be great to use on price protection claim TIA

    • +1

If it's only under $100 difference, don't bother with the screenshots if you're using 28 Degrees. They've never asked me for prove but YMMV.

      • +1

Yeah, I always keep screenshots, but they've never asked to see one

  • Did you guys redeem the game code successfully?
