    Is this good?
16-20-20-38 timings but it's CL16, I don't understand enough honestly and need to put my mind out of it's misery with all this searching and research.
Would this be good for Ryzen 5 3600 on my MSI b450 Tomahawk max?
Someone pleave save me or recommend.

CL16 is good but for me id want to get a minimum of 3600mhz ram for Ryzen

      • Do the timings matter that much? Like I know 16-16-16-36 is the best, but should I just not care and get whatever timings, just 3600mhz and CL16?

It matters because the better the timings the easier it will be to overclock in my experience.

Timings matter, but clock speed Mhz is more important. Size>Clock Speed> Timings. C16 is mid range and ok for general gaming and probably better suited to not being overclocked, also depends on the die that is used. Are you purchasing this as an upgrade with existing ram or to replace the ram. If its to go with other ram you will be stuck at the slower older ram settings anyways.

@Bargainz: I am purchasing a new set for a brand new build that is all on it's way. I have a Ryzen 5 3600, MSI b450 tomahawk max and a 5700 XT GPU coming. I need something to pair with this ASAP, I can't look anymore, my head hurts haha. Also half digging RGB. Would you say get 32 or 16gbs? And what timings/clock speed should I aim for? SAVE ME

@Lightnight212: Doesnt sound like youre planning to overclock alot given its a 3600 build so CL16 should be good. But just be aware there is a slight performance bump for not alot more $ for the 3600mhz CL16 ram. 16gb is considered the minimum these days but if youre going to play flight simulator etc some users have reported better stability as the system is running on the edge with only 16gb. For most other games though 16gb is fine.

This is just my opinion and not advice, if you want this ram goto your motherboard manufacturers website and check that this specific ram kit (CMW32GX4M2E3200C16) is listed as compatible before buying.

            • @Lightnight212: I've got similar build with you R5 3600 with X570 and RX 5700 XT. I've already got this ram as I felt I couldn't do much OC with 3600 anyways.

        • The answer is, it depends.
It gives you freedom to experiment.
I bought some ram which had ok timings, which i was still able to tighten somewhat.
I was able to undervolt and save 50w with tightened timings for similar performance to full power everything, but with only xmp profile.
If i had bought top end ram, i probabably could have tightend it even more to get exactly the same.

But ultimately, its like a few percent difference, so for normal use, its not noticeable.

    • ryzen need at least 3200 on ram clock otherwise ryzen got bottle-necked

  • Has anyone tried this on a MSI Mortar Max?

    • Installed in my system last year - Ryzen 7 3700x, b450 Mortar Max - occasional no post (just hit the reset button), fixed with a bios update

  • I bought this just two/three weeks ago for my 3700x 3800 x570 TUF build (techfast). While 3200 is a bit slow, I had little issue overclocking it to 3600mhz. Runs well and very happy with them.

However if you can find 32gb 3600mhz trident, I would go with that, since you don't have to overclock.
