Sennheiser HD 560S Open-Back Headphone $319 Delivered @ Sennheiser Australia

210

For those who still have their ZipPay 10% Amazon cashback offer, this is $257.80 via Amazon, but on pre-order from the UK.

For everyone else, remember to access this via the 20% cashback page from Shopback, as part of their flash sales running until 9 PM. Makes it around $40 cheaper than the next best AU price.

Neutral (flat, not Harman) open back with better bass extension, treble extension and soundstage than the 600 series, and the best clarity yet from the 500 series (but not 600 series level). There's some minor treble spikes (to promote soundstage) that some can perceive as higher still due to how the drivers are angled.

These would be great open backs for gaming, pretty much any music genre (including EDM-based tracks, which normally lose a bit with open backs), but doesn't have quite as natural a presentation or timbre as the 600 series (particularly the HD 600 and the 650/6XX).

Great post with descriptions jasswolf. Cheers

  • Less $29 gst, the cashback is $58. Still a very good price.

    • The cashback offer doesn't specify anything about tax, and it's an AU-based purchase. I'm going to leave it at $64, but if someone confirms that it's $58, I'll update the post.

I'm also now realising this was around $230 via Amazon UK during the Amazon/ShopBack flash sale. D:

      • From my experience with Amazon AU, the purchase confirmation includes:

        Item Subtotal:
        Shipping & Handling:
        Total before GST:
        GST:
        Total including GST:

So, yes. Gst is listed separately

        • True for Amazon, and as I'm now re-reading the Sennheiser cashback, also true here.

My maths was rough for the Amazon deal, would have worked out around $226 on Friday. Technically doesn't seem to be categorised for Amazon AU, so not sure what the cashback would be currently for the usual deals.

ZipPay deal is on the payment, not the ex GST price.

  • Final price $261 after cashback. Hmm these or the HD6XX? Usage is mainly acoustic style sound, and I enjoy vocals and guitar sounds to be prominent.

Current estimate on the 6XX is April 2021 via Addicted to Audio. Via Drop, you're looking at USD $215 + GST + $35-$40 from a freight forwarder (you might manage to drive that down $10 or $15 though).

So it's $260 vs $350 today, and it's very much a question of use case.

      Gaming? HD 560S, or even the 599 @ $167 if you're on a budget.

Music? 6XX for maybe 80% of what's out there, 560S for the rest. The 560S is more neutral, but it's less detailed, and doesn't sound very natural.

Movies? Both have their merits, but if you're mostly dealing with dialogue, the HD 6XX has much better mids. The 560S brings good bass and more bite.

      • Thanks for the awesome reply appreciate it. It would mainly be for music, so might wait out the Sennheiser 6XX. That is originally what I had thought. I'm in no rush at the moment for headphones so happy to wait till the next deal pops up for them.

        • Another option in that vein would be the Audio Technica ATH-R70X, currently $369 + Delivery at UMart.

They are legit HD6XX contenders, with some tweaks that overall may make them more preferable, particularly if you have an amp.
