  • Charging $6.95 click and collect šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

    • +6

It's not really click and collect they just post it to a pick up place like a servo or pharmacy.

  • Thanks, bought one. Good timing as we just had our first hot day.

  • +5

These get damaged easily if squashed. I wonder if they will package appropriately when shipping?

    • +5

I bought a Quiksilver straw hat in their last sale. It comes in a fairly strong box and it is big enough to store the hat without being squished.

  • +3

Shipping kills it for me. Can't buy something where shipping costs more than the item.

    • +2

FREE DELIVERY ON ORDERS OVER AU $29 & 2+ ITEMS

Just ordered 4 hats with free shipping.

      • You mean 5 hats? 5 x $6 = $30.

To buy 5 hats for $30 or buy 1 hat for $12.95…when I only need 1 (2 max) that is the question…

        • +5

No, I also bought one of better quality and more expensive since it's also on sale: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-QUIKSILVER-Mens-Jettyside-Stā€¦

These are straw hats, they don't last long, and I'm happy to have a few spares at this price. Plus I have other family members.

          • @mangoed: Is that a softer type of straw that has a bit of "give" in it?

            • +1

@Charlie Dont Surf: Hi, sorry for late reply. Just received my order. Yes, the more expensive model is more stretchy - probably not because of different type of straw, but because of the way it was woven. It seems to be lighter (not that the cheaper hat feels heavy), there's less material and it's less dense. There are also vent holes. The pricey hat has no large orange logo on front, and the chin strap is made of leather. I'm not sure all of these things worth 2x the price. The RRP of cheap hat is $24.99, the pricey one is $27.99.

              • @mangoed: Thanks, I ended up getting a new beach-hat at DFO yesterday, good looking one too!

      • Would have to be 5, i just got 5 with the free ship

        • See my comment above, I ordered another, more expensive model. Would like to compare a cheaper and fancier hat.

      • +3

        PLUS3 to save 3% or $0.90 on $30+

    • +7

I hear you, but if you saw this hat for $12.95 in store would you still consider it a deal?

  • Can't seem to make C&C work. No options in Melbourne

  • Good for anyone that watches the cricket or is heading to the Australian Open.

    • +11

To be honest these are good for anyone spending more than a few minutes in the Australian sun. Cigarettes have this massive stigma for causing cancer but even though everyone knows the sun does the same Iā€™m still shocked by the amount of people that donā€™t seem to care and frequently spend long periods in the sun without any (or much) protection.

  • Where you can get free C&C in Sydney?

  • +4

    Cheap Mugiwara~

    • +4

      Gomu gomu no……

      • I hoped this would be here in the comments

  • +3

Got one from bunning for $6 a few weeks back. Check ur local.

    • +3

The fashionistas will advise that it is a different style. šŸ˜€

    • +1

Out of stock at my local. Only those fedora style ones available now. Shame!

  • -4

Is this OK for ethnic people to wear or only surfer white people?

    • +2

And how about non-surfer white people? (Asking for a friend.)

      • +1

        and non-white surfers?

        • Theyā€™re the ā€œethnicā€ people OP was asking about :)

  • +10

Anything less than $15 for a hat like this is a decent deal.

As someone who has worn one of these every summer for probably decades, you have to treat them pretty gently as they will fray and break almost immediately if you don't. They are prone to breaking at the point where the cord goes through the hat and most of them won't see out a summer of daily beach going.

They are still great hats for the beach or fishing that you can afford to lose and also one of the few wide brimmed hats that don't make you look like a a Victorian-era explorer or an senior gent off for a spot of lawn bowls.

    • I treat mine nicely and it's lasted 5 years with occasional wear and being left in the car almost all the time. It even survived being in a suitcase coming from its original place of purchase in Hawaii.

  • Thanks, got 2 - cheers

  • How do I know what size?

  • What size?

    • See reply to previous comment.

      • Thanks

  • Damn you op.

I have one and just bought two more.

  • Bought yew

For those that are BCF members and periodically get the $10 loyalty credits, you can grab the same hat from BCF for exactly $10 c&c. I grabbed one in the last round of BCF loyalty credits about a month ago.

Edit: Hmm looks like it's gone up to $15 (https://www.bcf.com.au/p/quiksilver-unisex-top-tier-straw-haā€¦)

    • +1

Read the reviews on BCF on this hat:
      ā€œVery Brittleā€
      ā€œBroke after one wearā€
      ā€œNot recommendedā€

  • Wait for a week they will refund your money like last deal

Stopped buying straw hats a few years back when you could still get them for $5 from bunnings. They just don't last.
Went and got myself an Akubra. So far so good.

    • +2

Yes it's such a shame that those straw hats are now $6 at Bunnings.

      • +1

I did have to ponder the value of paying $150 for a hat when that would buy a whole lot of $5 hats.
I decided that its something that hopefully would last many years and so far thats proven true.
Its hard these days to buy quality and not to fall into the cheaply made throw away cycle but if I can I will.

  • need the ones with the strings and beads hanging off the hat to keep the flies away

    • +6

Beads? A real Aussie uses wine corks!

  • Good for my Straw hat Luffy cosplay

  • EDIT: NVM

  • Thanks mate bought 5 - bargain!

  • +1

They usually give these away for free when buying boardies. That's how I got my last one.

Rip curl are making better boardies now the water repellant is phenomenal, they don't actually get wet!

  • Thanks got one. Hoping it's decent quality and comfy

  • Thanks OP. Bought four.

  • But do I need 5 straw hats?

  • Bought 2 thanks OP

  • +1

Ebay keep issuing me with free $5 vouchers (spend >$5) as compensation for not receiving items (mostly the $1 deals) by the expected date.

Ebay asks has the item arrived by xx date when filling out seller feedback. I obviously answer truthfully since they can compare my answer with tracking. Sometimes the expected delivery date with Ebay is 3 days but I live in Toowoomba so itā€™s pretty common for me to get stuff 4-7 days even with express postage.

    I ordered a hat for $1+$6.95 shipping so I canā€™t complain!

  • Morning! Nice day for fishing ain't it!

  • Ordered 5.

  • +2

I got something similar while on holidays in Qld from kmart for $5 early this year. Along with $2 thongs. Something to consider if you cbf paying postage.

  • Buy 5 for $30 and you get free postage

  • Thx OP, tried to c&c but didn't let me :(

  • Thanks. I've always been wanting one of these hats. Hopefully it will fit better than the Bunnings one.

  • +1

I got one for me and one for my father in law. We're going to be the straw hat boyz!

  • Cheers OP! Grabbed the 2 straw hats and a belt for $29!

  • L/XL hat sizes sold out

  • +1

Guys, just go to bunnings and get a Straw hat from there.

  • Cheers, went for the $13.99 ones which look a bit better. (listed in mangoed's post)

  • If you're after a quiksilver hat then sure. But I just picked up the Bunnings one on the weekend and it was $6.
If you're just after a straw hat, then yeah $6 bunnings guys.

    • bunnings quality though is far worse…

  • all the ozbargainer's required uniform

  • Just received the hat, in a large box and undamaged via transit!

  • Bought a similar looking one for son for about $20 from BCF so this is good value. Unfortunately he found he still received some sunburn last week from reflection off the water (kayak on Lake Hume).

  • Never received this order. Refunded in full.

  • Excellent quality hat. Love it. I wouldve paid full price I reckon.
