I'm wary of putting anything on glass after I moved into a brand new apartment and I got the whole toolerties set and put it on shower screen.
When I went to take them off and clean the bathroom it left all residue on the glass and I can't get it off to this day.
Every time you have a hot shower you can see where I had the toolerties stuck on the glass.

If you haven't already, you may wish to try nail polish remover / acetone, razor blade or WD40 depending on if the residue is hard or tacky.
Mate have you given Bar Keepers Friend a go on your shower glass? I've used it to successfully remove hard water stains that previously wouldn't come off after scrubbing the heck out of it with regular bathroom cleaner. It also works wonders on restoring cooking pots too. I got mine from ColesWorths.
