  • They don't have the double sim variant?

    • The big carriers are anti-dual SIM, it's a load of garbage. They only want to sell you a phone that you will use with their network. This is the reason they don't even bother manufacturing dual-SIM variants of many of the flagship phones, because they know the carriers won't want them anyway.

I've been looking for a really good dual-SIM phone for a while… am sitting around with the cash ready to go but I can't find anything that interests me. The Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro is the closest I've got, but I don't want an LCD display.

  • Technically not $481 upfront cost is still $534. The 10% rebate is in the form of WW rewards points.

    • True but you can buy 5x $100 gift card first and buy the last gift card pay by the points you got from 5x $100.
I done this many times and even last week during Woolworths 10% off swap card deal.

      • But the points don't hit the account immediately though. How long did you have to wait before you buy the second lot?

        • My woolies took me only 5-10 mins. Usually after I purchased them, I went inside the store again and do some grocery. Before check out again, I check my reward points on the app and it usually already came through.

          • @Meaty: Thanks 👍 I will try that next time!

            • @bruceclipse: They stopped this. You can't use wow credit on gift cards anymore. At least that was my experience.

              • @singingwolf: Thats weird :o cause last week when I pay for my extra card, it ask me if want to use the points I have.
After checking the points I have, its no where I got them from grocery >w<
I do know some store have a limit on how many you purchase but this can bypass by the manager, maybe this is store dependent?

                • @Meaty: Maybe big w is ok. My experience was at Woolworths

      • Can't use points to buy gift cards anymore.

  • This gift card works with big W as well?

    • +1

Technically the gift card you purchase from Big W can be trade to other store gift card listed on the card.
I'm afraid it doesn't have Big W as an option.

I have the 4G version and it's great. The only small complaints I have are the inability to "scroll left" to another app page from home screen (solved with Nova launcher), and that it's a bit heavy and slightly too big for my personal taste. Oh and the fish eye lens is good but not amazeballs.

    • I never pay attention on the scroll left function but yeah the phone is on heavy side due to big battery (last me 2-3 days) and bigger screen.
I like the in display fingerprint sensor though xD

      • Can vouch for the in-display sensor. Lightning quick and haven't had to re-enroll my finger since I got the phone. Much better than on the Mate 20 Pro (though, I used facial recognition which was better imo).

        • I've had to reset it a couple times but I'm using a glass screen protector

        • Hows it compare to the mate 20 pro in general? I just picked up a used m20 and I'm liking it, cameras are great. But also kinda wondering if I should just get some newer midrange like this, since it's a couple years old already

          • @crentist: The comment I made comparing the two ~6 months ago here covers most of the differences. Still love the Oppo and the software hasn't given me much/any grief.

The extra brightness of the M20P (similar in brightness to the M20) was nice to have in direct sunlight - both are still usable though.

            • @donnot: Nice, thanks. Doesn't sound like there was much of an improvement from the M20P then. As long as there isn't some massive step up the huawei is pretty good

screen is getting scratched up super easy though, gotta get one of those liquid glue protectors

          • @crentist: Don't think there are that many options in the the same price range that offer the same or similar specs? Which ones were you looking at?
To add to above lacking splash proofing should I add too that it doesn't support wireless charging, which is far from a deal breaker for me. Having some form of IP rating would have been nice tho but I've managed so far :D

            • @CosaNoztra: honestly havent really looked at much else. I was on a tiny old iphone SE for ages, waiting for any decent small phone to replace it, and all these decent cheap androids sound great, except for being massive

I'm not keen to spend $1000+ on the 12 mini, so figured I'd pick up a decent used android. That way, if I couldn't handle it I could still flog it at a similar price, rather than getting something brand new. The huawei came up pretty cheap, and I had enjoyed the Mate 8 before (except for the size)

The m20p is pretty great after a couple months (screen went from pristine to pretty scratched up though, seems to have a soft coating), size is manageable, and waterproofing and battery life are amazing to have
But since the bootloader is locked I'm a little wary of the longevity over the next couple years or so.

  • What's the 2020 SDM865 version of this?

    • Find X2 Pro I guess

  • Do these particular ones support displayport over USB-C?
    Apparently some do.

Would be good for work using Citrix.

Color os is the worst most restrictive os out there I bought an oppo and ended up taking it back. apps like email cant run in the background. color os shuts them down
Just a heads up for the unaware.

    • +1

Need to turn off smart power saver, sleep battery optimisation and on top of that, have to go into battery>custom power saver and set the apps to "Run in background" individually (vs "smart background…") which will sort that out. Bit of a PITA though.

I can't think of many parts of Color OS that are restrictive though, coming from a M20P and S8+.

  • I guess this needs to be $399 to achieve more than 100 up votes!

  • I own this phone too, a little heavy but great unit.

Purchased from H/N earlier in the year for $599

The only issue i have is when you try and take a photo horizontal, it does not shoot, i have to turn it around the other way and then it works

    Weird

A update did in-fact come yesterday, not sure if it fixed this or it is in the settings?

    • Odd! Haven't encountered that issue myself.
