Heller 12L Portable Evaporative Cooler w/ 3-Speed Fan $99 in-Store (or Online + Delivery) @ Stratco

80

It's a fairly warm day in QLD, so looking at a few cooling solutions out there.

Came across a good deal that Stratco has if anyone is looking for a portable evaporative cooler!

https://www.stratco.com.au/au/electrical/cooling/heller-12l-…

Officeworks have them for $50 more at $149.95, but there are none in stock anywhere near me for a price match. Check near you at https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/heller-12l…

So, good deal at Stratco! I believe it ends today, so order in store or online ASAP if you're in the market for one for summer!

    It says 118 for me?

  • Showing as $118 via nearest. Am I missing something?

Don't think evaporative coolers are the best idea in QLD unless you're in one of the dry parts, the crazy humidity will only be made worse by one of these and do the opposite of cooling you down.

Cheers mate… in my research just now I've found the same thing, so am going to give it a miss. Too humid here! Will just get a better fan :-)

Yeah I feel, the weather in Brisbane right now sucks! Waited too long to get an air conditioner and am in the exact same situation now too haha :S

    • Americans don't call them "swamp coolers" for nothing

https://youtu.be/2horH-IeurA This video goes over how these things work, maybe not the best idea in humid climates

  • Price varies from $99 to $120 depending on the state.

    • Thanks for clarifying that! It definitely shows $99 when I click through from QLD.

  • This is their price in QLD - $118 in VIC

  • Evaporaive coolers are a scam.

They work fine in less humid climates, so long as they draw fresh air from outside, and don't recirculate like this one.

      • You can create the perception of improved comfort by putting ice cubes in the tray, but a fan will be probably be better.

        • +2

ice melting has a tiny fraction of the latent heat of water evaporating. It is a waste of time.
Even if you could somehow melt it fast enough, you'd need tens of kg per hour for a small room.

A litre of water evaporating absorbs 2400kj, but only 334kj for a kg of ice melting.

    • If you're in a hot but fairly low humidity climate, they're brilliant. We had a portable one in W Qld and it was great.

    Mould maker.

useless to be honest. Doesn’t really work when is above 30 degree

    • +3

Rubbish. We lived in 40+ temp and it worked well. You need to accept it for what it is - it's not an air-con to chill a house. But cooling a small room or have it in front of you, it's nice.

      • This @redcreek200 must be a big fan of evap cooler =)

        • +2

Depends where you are. They're no good where I am now (high humidity). But they work well in hot low humidity places (I've had one). Some idiots (not you of course ;) aren't familiar with them.

      • +2

It is just a bloody fan! Accept it or not, it is not cooling anything! I used it, and never turn it on.

        • +1

Did you use the ice cube come with it? I got one from delonghi and quite happy with it

        • +1

That would be like saying it's cool under big leafy trees because of the shade. It's actually cool because of the shade and the massive amount of evaporative cooling due to water being released via the leaves as a product of photosynthesis

  • Things like this one wont cool your room

  • +1

Get a fan unless you want to grow mould in your room.

  • If temperture is 28 degree in a small room, how much cooler when using this cooler?
