TomTom Go 620 6 Inch GPS $244 + Shipping @ TomTom Au

141

The TomTom Xmas Promo email just came in.

30% discounts on three items and %40 off on the motorcycle GPS. Direct from Tom Tom (free delivery). A good pick is the Go 620 (6” screen) reduced from $349 to $244. That’s a good buy. $379 at JB.

I have been enjoying the Tom Tom as it has audible alerts on exceed speed limit, and how you can add places on your computer and it synchs to the device through your phone’s Bluetooth. World maps/free updates. I know Garmin has a lot of fans and yes that's a good choice as well, but if you are in the TomTom club this is a good opportunity to upgrade or one for a second car. I actually bought these units for my kids for the speed alerts, even if you leave it in the console just for the beeps it's worth while. Speeding fines suck.

any benefit for this over google maps on a 6inch smartphone tilted sideways ?

not much. more for the older generations who still prefer a standalone device.

      benefits in my view
      * you don't have to manually start maps on your phone every time. usually you don't if you know the way.
      * Google maps doesn't do speed alerts. Wayze does but it is somewhat sucky
      * 45 minutes of your phone on gps with screen on drains battery and gets hot. although sometimes it's worth the hassle for up to date traffic data.
      * one speeding ticket is worth double the gps device price, depends how you want to place your bets

Google maps does do speed alerts and waze does it really really well with android auto it's great

        • Waze is brilliant , especially being free, have used it in australia and uk and ireland

      • not sure who negged me for giving my opinion but thanks.

I don't recall Google maps beeping if I'm over speed limit. if it does beep over limit then it's not doing that well enough because I only notice the tomtom beeping.

Try entering address on Google map in underground car parks or locations where there’s no cellular connection or very weak, or if you are on an ultra budget phone data plan…

Don't you just say "hey Google, navigate to….." when you get to the boomgate?

Even the Amish don't physically type in addresses.

How about the same thing runs seamlessly on our 6.1 inch phone for free!

  • i have this gps, update over wifi, start up is a bit slow (15s)

I love this one. I'm on my P's so have to use a GPS. Works great.

Good news on the motorcycle GPS. Grabbed one already.

  • We have this. Loved the previous model, and when the network was shut down they offered us a 50% off new version (this one).

Not a fan. It's so slow, and the smarts and voice control are not great. Route logic is pretty decent, but I won't be buying another Tomtom device in future.

try navman, it'll make you appreciate tomtom 😁

    • Maybe not a completely fair observation. Yes there is some lag in the UI when you select an icon. But it is acceptable performance. The voice control works fine, when you say Hello Tom Tom, you can say Volume Up, go to a place, or say an address.

  • Lifetime worldwide map updates are a great feature (once we are allowed to go overseas….).
