nice price, would probably jump on it if i didn't snag a green kamasu the other week.

I just can't get past the name "Orient" on a watch, feels the same as "Great Wall of China" on a car. I haven't ever used one, so I can't comment on performance but the name alone kills it :(

      • +4

Orient is a Japanese company (so I assume they're made in Japan, don't know) with a long history. I get what you're saying but I think it's an fine brand name.

        • +1

"All of Orient's watch movements are made in Japan. The brand's official website does not clarify if all production processes—from the creation of movements to assembly—takes place in the country.", it's a shame becuase I can't afford a Steinhart for every occasion lol

        • +1

Orient are a subsidiary of Seiko Epson (yes, that Seiko, yes that Epson), and use Seiko movements.

      • +3

orient watches are excellent. I have a couple. I like them more than my Seiko. Watches are much more than their brand names.

        • I don't disagree at all, I just don't like that brand name - to be fair I've never held or worn one, so maybe I'd be more willing to purchase if I'd have the chance!

          • +2

@itsHughesy: Orient is 100% Japanese brand, one of the big threes in Japan, Seiko, Citizen, Orient.

Orient is owned by Seiko now, I have one Orient KAMASU, +-15s/d Japan inhouse movement, Sapphire crystal. they also have red and green dial, really eye catching. Amazon sells it around $300-370. if you would like to buy some thing similar in Seiko, the movement is at least 6R15 and above, it will cost you +$1,000.

this Seiko 5 is +-35-45s/d, mineral crystal easily scratching, really cannot compare at all. and i dont think it is made in Japan, otherwise there will be 'Japan' somewhere on the dial.

Orient is not known in Australia is only because they dont have dealer here, no ad. nothing, but it does not mean they are not good watches. you probably could buy it from Amazon, most of the time delivered from US, or Jomashop, which is also in US, or Watchnation from SG.

            • @simonlee1: Thanks for the information, I didn't know much of that! Consider myself enlightened, I'm looking for some new watches to compliment what I wear daily now and as a fan of dive watches, I'm a fan. Just off hand, do that have anything like the Rolex GMT-Master II Ref 126710BLNR? The batman watch?

            • @simonlee1: that s/d is awful.. I own replicas that have <5s/d. How is a genuine sports model that bad?

              • +2

@900dollaridoos: that is the specification of the model, every single watch of that model should be within that range, +-4-6 s/d is cosc standard. Seiko 4r is -+30- 45 s/d, but if you are lucky, you will get a +-2 s/d seiko 4r35, but it does not mean another same seiko would be as good as +-2 s/d.

considering the specification listed by Seiko and Orient, Seiko 4r is -30 +45 s/d, 6r is -15+15 s/d, while Orient F6922 is -15+15 s/d. the smaller range they listed, the more confidence they have on the movement, which means it is a better movement, at least for accuracy.

this specification means if your watch is out of this range, you could claim warranty. Normally only the expensive brand will have cosc certified, which is - 4 + 6 s/d.

  • This is a really good price. If I didn't deplete my wallet during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday madness, I would have jumped at this.

  • +3

I dont think the RRP is a true reflection of what this watch costs.
Doing a google search, heaps of other stores selling this for $300-$400.

    • +2

Yeah, you have to search before purchasing almost anything on sale these days because the RRP's are often hugely inflated over the actual price it's being sold for in stores. Kogan just got a gentle slap on the wrist for this.

      Grand Seiko Peacock :D

      • Ding ding ding!

    • I like the breitling premier b01.

      Seiko Green (or 'Hulk') Sumo

  • Anyone know where these are made? Should be Japan, but I cannot find any reference to it.

    • +2

Model number ends in K, so not made in Japan (would end in J otherwise). Most likely made in Malaysia or China

  • Don't really dig the position of the crown for some reason.

    • +10

I think that's the reason it's not in the 3-position, so that it doesn't dig into your wrist.

  • Good price. I bought it for $399 from them in March this year

If you want a green watch and spend a bit more this is not bad in person, can easily get 25% discount

    https://www.tagheuer.com/au/en/timepieces/collections/tag-he…

    • +1

How to get the easy 25% off?

      • negotiate with AD and pay by cash?

      • Walk into a store and ask for 25% off? Pretty common for watches to sell with steep discounts, other than the ones that all the rappers wear Rolex, AP, PP and some others…

      • As others said, just ask in store. If its a company owned boutique your discount will be much smaller but if you buy at any other Authorised Dealer you should have no trouble getting a decent discount, anywhere up to 25%. The only brands you won't get a discount on are Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Audemars Piquet etc which are on another level.

I was offered an Omega for 15% off RRP even after I told the store manager I wasn't buying there and then. I'm sure if I was a serious buyer I could have got more knocked off the price without issue.

      "A bit more" ~$4,000 watch

    • +4

No thanks. Would rather save a couple of thousand (assuming you can get the Tag for more like $3000+ after dscount) and buy the Seiko Sumo in green instead.

Tag are overpriced and are not the luxury brand most people think of them as. Even though you should be able to get a discount of 20-25% off RRP at an AD they still aren't worth it.

    • +4

Meh I'll disagree I think tag's are overrated. I'd much prefer a grand Seiko for a similar price point. https://www.grand-seiko.com/au-en/collections/sbgv225g

      A bit more … lol 10x price

  • Nice find thanks OP sans the Hardlex.

  • How does the green color compared to the rolex one? It looks like its a bit darker than the Rolex?

  • I don't have good experience with Seiko watches unfortunately. 2 Seiko automatic watches failed on me after 1-2 years of use.

    • this Seiko is 3 year warranty, right?

      • 3 years local warranty or 1 year international. If you buy grey market, they may not warrant the watch, but just don't tell them.

  • The price is changed now. Its on stock but with slight increase in price.
