I would give it to me out of the kindness of your heart.

    • Sell it to fergy at cost price.

      • Sell it to fergy at 4x cost price out of the goodness of your heart (stuff slow claps, I want to see an exponential log).

        • +4

          Open, then sell it.

        • At 4x cost i feel my heart has so much goodness to give!

          • @jimmy c: If anyone here passed math it would have jumped up to 16x or 256x.

        • open it, replace with stones n sell it to fergy for 4x the price

  • I expected that answer HA!

    • +35

      What answer?

      • +1

        Give it to me.

        • +44

          You've summoned me sir

  • use it

  • +1

Do what you want to do

    • I want to spread my wings and fly like an eagle!

      • The real answer is that you should open it, sniff it, then leave it in the back of the closet for the next 20 years as a high yield investment.

  • +13

A real Ozb will sell it for a profit and wait for the next deal to come up here 😷

    • +19

Yep, all the while, also accusing anyone else who finds themselves in the exact same position of being a scalper…

  • +2

Sell, too much money to ignore. You are at the height of demand currently. I got the new xbox and is just sitting there as my old one did. I did do an injury which is keeping me off work so will fire it up soon but it's likely not for any next-gen titles. Sell for sure.

  • +61

    Play the damned thing.

    You still want one, right?

Don't add to the awful scalping that's already happening.

    • +2

Yep i agree. i got a xbox series x a cpl of days ago and was joking with a mate maybe i get 2 and sell 1.
He like dont be like those assholes. such a shitty thing to do let mum and dads get the console at proper price.
im like yep im not doing it. IMHO should be a law or businesses like ebay should block sales over RRps

  • +4

I know there are plenty for sale for ridiculous amounts of money but are people actually paying $2000?

I honestly feel like all of these greedy (expletive) will end up stuck with them and have to sell for what they paid or lower.

    • +2

Seems the going ebay rate is about $1225 to $1350 on the last couple of auctions at the last minute.

Not sure about ebay fees and the dent that makes. But I kind of feel like profiteering is kind of low.

      • +7

Recently realized that ebay fees are 10%. Just stupid !

        • +4

          Gumtree $0 listing.

          • +5

@ATangk: I’d rather pay eBay fees in order to avoid the kinds of buyers who use gumtree.

            • @smartazz104: What I meant was gumtree has a post to eBay for $0 promotion… I find eBay easier to deal with, it does suck to get $60 paypal fees for selling expensive items though

        • it’s more like 13-15%

          • @viper8548: Yeah 10-15% is a bit rich for the big ticket items. Potentially 125 + in fees.

        • +1

Plenty of ways to list for free. The only real fee is 2.95% of PayPal fee

          • @dji1111111: 2.9% + 30c, the latter which doesnt get refunded when you refund a sale.

          • @dji1111111: On ebay, without the final value fee? Genuinely curious…

            • @x d: ?? what are you asking?

              • @dji1111111: I am curious if you mean plenty of ways to list for free includes ebay as once you sell, you have to pay the final valuation fee of 10%. I'm only selling on gumtree to avoid that.

                • @x d: You get 2 free listings per month on ebay if you list on gumtree.
This one may be targeted but I didn't have to do anything and I had 50 free listings on my account.

                  • @dji1111111: Knew about the 2 listings via gumtree. Just checked my EBay account now. There has always been a 40 free listing per month (of insertion fee) though you have to pay the 10% final valuation fee once sold.

However, it looks like there is a new 10 free listings of all fees for ebay plus member that may have just started for December!!!!

Haven't seen that before. Will have to make use of that. Thanks.

Put it on the shelf next to your other console and things, and let it be a reminder that you spend money unresourcefully, too easily, and satisfaction comes from what you are doing with your time, and not the things you own.

    • +13

satisfaction comes from what you are doing with your time, and not the things you own

But I like to spend my time playing video games…

      • +7

You and me too bro. Less time spent accumulating free games and more time playing them.

    • +15

The things I own are telling me to not listen to you anymore.

    • +3

Some of us enjoy gaming and get satisfaction from it.

Don't be so judgemental on how others spend their money, at least he didnt pay $1500 for it

      • +1

OP is asking for an opinion, otherwise you are right.

      • He didn't pay $1500 but is looking to add to the scalper market at those sort of prices 🤦‍♂️

        • +2

Its a grey area, I mean if people want to pay $1500-$2000 then its hard not to see the logic in selling and then rebuying another one if you can wait a few weeks.

I opened mine straight away, but the idea of selling crossed my mind. Then I thought about how happy I was to actually get one and be able to play it with my kids is pretty special.

People that bought one specifically to scalp or multiple consoles to scalp are the real scum here.

      • Nice! Well spotted!

        • +1

While we wait for the meaning of life to dawn upon us all, we pass through this dreary existence of a life utilising escapist tactics such as pressing buttons on a device in response to stimuli presented to us on a screen (playing video games).

On a less existential philosophy note: How did you manage to get your hands on a ps5 @jimmy c?

    • +2

Imagine it was on his shelf in his new 749k apartment in Alexandria, the guilt would be mortifying

      • It was a similar price give or take a few zeros… Not at auction though.

    • Ouch this actually hit a little too close to home :’(

  • +2

You could sell to this dude's nephew, might earn some karma https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/589330

    • This story sounds a bit sus. Why didn't the dude just give his PS5 to his nephew? Honestly, it could also wait another couple of months since he already waited that long and not much new contents for a new console.

  • IF you can sell it for profit. Sell.

    • +3

Or get scammed along the way and loose the console and the money!

  • +2

Xmas is just around the corner. You have an opportunity to sell for a profit now and buy another one when prices die down.

    • +1

The fvck did I just watch?
      …looks like another #socialmedia and #narcissist

      • Social media #influenza perhaps?

      • Just thought it represented well how people imagine Christmas will be like unboxing a PS5.

        • +2

I didn't have any pants on when I unboxed mine. I'm sure it looked similar to the video.

          • @ozbjunkie: Yes I am sure (in your head) it happened just like the video, if you think so it is all that matters.

          • @ozbjunkie: I was wondering the protocol of how to open. Take off your pants… and jacket?

            • @jimmy c: Pants off. Leave my white panties on. Then unbutton my white collared shirt and smile playfully. Pretty sure that's how it went.

  • -2

Too late to sell, you ain't gonna get maximum profit atm.

But wait till you dont see any posted sales on GT or FB, then hike it up.

  • +17

Looking out for the next post by OP in a few weeks: Got scammed through eBay/PayPal, what are my options?

    • +12

But ebayer greatbuyer00000001 had 100% feedback from that paperclip he sold the day before.

      • It was 18 carot (gold plated) however!

  • +4

Do you need others to decide for you? It is hard to give you any advice when we don't know anything about your circumstances.

    • +7

I'm rich and very good looking!

      • +3

Sell it and enjoy women instead.

        • -1

And if i was poor and ugly?

          • +5

@jimmy c: Sell it and go see a sex worker

          • @jimmy c: Then sell it and buy an Amazon echo to love you!

            • +1

@Loopholio: People must have started putting these in "real dolls" by now

              • @Jackson: Ps5 does kind of look like a certain part of a real doll! …. Apparently.

  • +4

Keep it. Not worth the timewasters on gumtree/facebook. You'll ask for $1500 and they'll show up with $800.

    • Not my experience though

      • Did you sell and if so where and how much?

    • +2

lol when selling on fb or gt. alway set up a time and place that is most convenience for you, never lean towards the buyer. This is how you single out the time waster

  • +3

Sell it and buy another when the price goes down.

    • Or just sell it an buy another 2 now, why wait?

      • The main problem is probably that they aren't available. If they were available, silly people wouldn't be paying silly prices.

  • +3

Get a job and with the money you get it’ll be like selling a PS5 for profit every day.

    • +4

You mean if I bought 365 PS5's to sell right now, I wouldn't have to work for the rest of the year?

  • +1

Only you can answer this question. Desperate for the money? Sell it for profit. Desperate for the gaming experience? Keep it. Easy

  • +1

You sound like a fun guy

    • -1

      Likewise! ;)

  • Sell, only cause I'm an Xbox person.

  • scalpers are going to get messed with… I'm guessing they will have appointments that don't turn up etc. I also regret a few of the things I resold as they were the first of that item and sometimes had special features.

    • Special features like?

      • +1

Going off past first release consoles, overheating.
