      • This one won't rrod lol, unless in extreme circumstances. Sony took extra precautions this time. It's usually small differences or things Sony removes after a while.

        • Linux support, backward compatibility with ps2 (for original ps3)

  • +6

Just use the bloody thing and don’t be a douche.

    • +8

Can I use the thing and still be a douche? Just want to keep my options open!

  • +1

Don't know what the market currently is like, but I'd assume we'd be getting a bit of stock now and as such the values may not be as high.

I sold my 2nd one on release day for $1200, listed it up and someone came and picked it up within 15 minutes, with over 30 messages… The demand is ridiculously high, and it's not my fault that people want to get their one a few months earlier

    • Well done.

    • +1

      $1200??? You got ripped. :D

I'd posted my 2nd @ 1500 initially, I got offered more instead. Sold it with profit to cover my 1st & extra $$$.

      • How much did you get total? I wanted something quick and easy

        • Gerry's professionals

    • 30 messages sounds about right considering how low you had it priced for a release day stock…

People were easily selling theirs for $2k on day 1. 1200 is about the going price nowadays.

      • +3

Out of those 30 messages, I can guarantee 25 of em are low ballers. LOL

    • Thanks for contributing to the scalping problem and taking away from someone else through selfishness bro.

      • The scalping problem is purely made by people stupid or desperate enough to buy. Without them scalpers wouldn't exist. By your logic it's just as selfish to buy one for yourself, as that means someone else doesn't get one.

        • -1

Don't be stupid! It was the chicken first!

  • +3

I bought a few collector's items that were in short supply, I sold them once I saw the prices on eBay, not as much profit as you make selling consoles, but I still felt shitty selling them even though I am struggling financially.

Not worth the hassle and weight on your conscience, no matter how you justify it

    • +1

but I still felt shitty selling them even though I am struggling financially

You shouldn't. You saw an opportunity, and took it. There was nothing stopping anyone else doing it. Not struggling is more important than someone's need to have a trinket.

  • +6

Sell it, you need a great TV to use it to its potential. Wait 6 mo

    • +1

Yeah this is the main reason I am hesitant to keep. My tv is not good enough to see the difference. And there are no true ozbargan prices on the LGCX 65.

      • You should've got the 55" Sony A8H OLED on clearance a couple months ago. It was almost down to $2K at JB. Crazy good deal.

        • I check it out. Thnx.

        • -1

But it doesn't have HDMI 2.1 so useless with the new consoles

          • +1

@solidussnake: No games are going to run at 4k 120fps so Hdmi 2.1 is useless with the new consoles anyway

            • @cille745: Nonsense, I'm sure all the visually simple games, you know, like solitarie… the ones you don't care about graphics for anyway, will run fine at 4k 120FPS.

It's important that some do, so clueless fanboys can claim it runs games at 4k 120FPS in their pointless online arguments.

          • +1

@solidussnake: No game is going to run at 4K 120fps on these things, at least for the games where the graphics count.

            • @Techie4066: Sony just lodged a patent for a dual video card media/gaming device of some sort. Ps5 plus seems not a long bow. Or perhaps Hi res vr?

              • @jimmy c: Not sure, maybe PS5 Pro or something to compete with PCs. Also, I'm confused why I got downvoted for mentioning the A8H - it was the cheapest OLED. You can't find anything that cheap now and Sony OLEDs are the best.

                • @Techie4066: Yeah thanks for that. It looks like a really good tv. Some say possibly better than the LG CX. Up voted you again.

                  • @jimmy c: I just realised, last year's model, the A8G is still available. The 55" is $2495 at JB Hi-Fi. JB had it on sale not too long ago, I believe. It's much cheaper than any other OLED so it's something to consider.

65" is $2994 at The Good Guys.

          • +1

            @solidussnake: I know right? I'm playing mine at 4k 60fps and lts…. Just wonderful???

Sorry. I mean to say completely unplayable. Like… Ugh. So bad.

  • You bought it so you can have fun playing games. Do that. How much would reselling it even earn you anyway? Compare potential earnings or fun experienced by playing games to the number of hours worked to reach equivalence.

    • I do have a ps4. I'm not an animal! ;)

  • +1

Why not sell it on eBay whatever someone will pay is their prerogative and buy the next one that comes in at your local JB so basically getting a free PS5

  • +5

Open and enjoy it man, we all deserve some fun this shitty year.

  • if you need the money sell it, but dont be over greedy. If you dont mind waiting for them to be back in stock and could use a couple of extra hundred. Do it. But if your like me, I could not wait to open the thing and someone could of offered me 5k and I still would not of sold it., even if I was startving lol.

You could also open it and play for a few hours, days. You will still get more then retail at the moment with a used console.

You pre ordered your console and you have your own right to do what you want with it, but just dont be one of them :)

  • Why did you buy it?

    • +2

Was hoping to get a nice ozbargan on a new tv also. But it seems this in not the year for that for some strange reason.

      • +1

Then get a new TV and start playing it…

  • +3

Nice bait post, looks like you have your PM switched on - how many people PM'ed you, wanting to buy it from you?

    • +2

      Only you.

      • +2

        yeah, nah.

        • +1

Kidding. Interestingly no one has and I still have the ps5. I'm enjoying the comments very much though.

  • +4

Unpopular opinion but considering there is f**k all games i'd probably open it play Spiderman clock it in a day or two re-box it and sell it.

It will be awhile becuz the PS5 games come rolling in

    • This is probably the best option.

Someone will gladly buy it off you in a week for full cost price even though youve used it, or even nab yourself a cool $50 and make someone else happy too.

      • 50 dollars just isn't that cool these days

        • Use the 50 to buy 5 fans from kmart then it is pretty cool.

  • Omg sell it to me lol.

  • depends on whether you’d rather play Demon Souls right now, or have $500 right now and play Demon Souls in maybe March

    • Rpgs are not my thing. FPS mainly.

  • +1

Why did you purchase it for?

  • Just play it. The demand for these has dropped given there are heaps in the market so it's not you can flip it for heaps.

    • 400-500 is not heaps on something that costs 750?lol

  • +1

Some guy recently sold his ps5 for $750 on ozb classified

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588437

  • +1

Sell now and buy again later, no must play games right now.
It is the rational thing to do.

  • +1

I'd keep it and play it, unless you really don't want or need it, keep in mind though that stores still don't know when they'll have a steady amount of stock so if you do sell be prepared that you may have to wait until midway through next year to pick another one up easily.

  • +2

I'd play it. I personally think scalpers are the scum of the Earth. If you're a scalper and this offends you… good.

  • +1

Sell it and get another one after Christmas.

  • +3

Sell, I sold mine for profit. I intended on using it but the game I want isn't released til next year so I sold it.

Guy I sold it to was stoked he managed to get one, I got a nice little profit and I'm happy to wait til next year for one.

    • +2

How much profit did you make?

      • +2

$500 which I totally wasn't expecting. I thought I'd get a couple of hundred extra.

  • +4

Option 3: Return it for a full refund.

  • +2

After staring at the box for a few hours, the Mrs went to bed, the clock struck 12 and i personally couldn't resist.

Did not regret it one bit, the first play around with the controller was worth it.

If you need the money sell, if you don't need the money keep - simplz.

I would have been lamenting my decision to sell until March when we can probably pick one up at retail.

What a crap summer that would have been!

    • Yeah I also have a 4 week off from christmas after not a single break all year.

  • +3

ps5 is really not worth it to own yet at the moment. Not many great games. SELL IT

  • Why did you buy it at the first place? Buying remorse ?

  • Tbh, I bought a PS5 there are barely any games that take advantage of 4k60fps. I only use it for an exclusive box because I have a high end gaming PC.

    Right now theres

God Of War 4K60fps (Unpatched physical disk version),

    Ghost Of Tsushima 4k60fps,

    Spider-Man Remastered / Spider-Man MM 4k60fps,

    Infamous Second Son 4k60fps.

    That's about it I think.

If you got it to play games just play the dam games. If you have buyers remorse sell it for cost or profit. Either way you can get rid of it easy.

    • Um… you missed (older games first):

      • Shadow of The Colossus
      • Days Gone
      • Astro's Playroom
      • Demon’s Souls
      • Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Not counting most 3rd party titles (coz. you have PC). However, I don't get this playing old games at 4K/60fps being a big deal (unless you have a huge backlog of PS4 exclusives yet to play). If you are on multiple camps, it is just hard to believe you would replay all Sony exclusives now they are 60fps.

I got rid of my PS4 Pro (loud fan noise), extra controllers, old games and paid $50 out of my pocket for PS5. Honestly, I don't really care if old games don't get 60fps patches. It is more important the real, full blown next gen exclusives come out soon. Remake and DLC length games just won't cut it. I'd rather play God of War: Ragnarok than replay God of War at 60fps.

      • I actually did replay most but not all. In 4k60fps. I'm not just replaying them because they're 60fps. It's 4k60fps. My base PS4 was 1080p30fps on a 4k 65inch screen was still blurry and not smooth at all.

I don't count any 3rd parties because my PC can do 1440p120ish fps.

If OP has a PS4 and has asked if he should sell or open, I'm just answering his question. If he's fine with his PS4 then why buy PS5… If you're saying why play old games in 60fps. I don't really care though he can resell and get hate by people who are salt or just keep it for his own happiness. Looking at the comments though some are already miffed.

If we go by new games there is Astro, Sackboy and Spiderman thats it 3 games. Might as well sell.

        • If you had PS4, then even if games don't have the 4K/60 patch, quite a few of them would run in PS4 Pro mode. So, I don't see why only 4K/60 (dynamic 4K/60) is worthwhile, but anything that's dynamic 4K/30 is somehow just like 1080p/30? You replayed most of them completely again?

Clearly, older exclusive games aren't that important as Demon's Souls has been ruled out by you.

I tried a few of those 4K/60 patched games for a few minutes each, but just cannot be bothered replaying them for a lengthy period of time. I played them on PS4 Pro so there is less incentive to replay.

We all know the launch titles so far are lacklustre (and that's being nice). The quality of life improvement (SSD) on PS5 is something that most people probably won't be using for PS4 games (because most people have too many games AND PS5 default setting puts PS4 game installs on HDD, saving the SSD for PS5 games). It's a pity that QuickResume has not been implemented on PS5 (for PS4 games).

I was on the 2021 batch of PS5 (hence only $50 deposit needed - I wasn't keen on buying it early) and I was surprised Sony filled my order already. For $50 and getting rid of old games and console, I thought that was convenient. I think this no stock issue will be resolved early next year, so if people want to make a profit now, better do it soon.

  • If you have a CeX nearby, they are paying $1050 for a ps5 disc version cash.

    • You're getting ripped off you can get at least $1400 on facebook

  • +1

If you need or want the money, sell it and don't feel bad about it. That's just how the market is currently and people who are paying over RRP are under no illusion that they are overpaying and doing it on their own volition to get first playing rights on a limited stock item. Stocks will replenish and price will go down with time and if you don't have the need to play it right away, I wouldn't feel guilty selling to the people who obviously prioritise first playing rights over a 'fair value' deal.

  • +1

Make a viral video smashing a PS5, put it on Youtube… buy us all PS5s with the profits…

  • see what the market rate is and if the difference is worth having to wait a bit longer for one than sell. Capitalism baby

  • Sell it - I sold mine for $1500 and plan on now buying both a Series X and PS5 after Xmas.

Essentially buy one get one free.

Haters are going to hate though.

  • -5

Buying it to play, then changing your mind and scalping it, isn't much different from just buying it to scalp in the first place.

And we all know what people think of scalpers.

Depends on what the money is worth to you I guess.

Just know that if you sell it, there's some kid that has 750 bucks, that doesn't have 1250 bucks, and that kid is going without a PS5 so you can make $500 bucks.

    Make a decision.

    • By that rationale there is also probably some loaded "family man" that will drop the cash to get one for his mistress. I'd sell to that guy in a pinch for too much money.

      • -1

And yet some kid goes without and you have some extra cash.

        It's not different.

        • +1

Omg… You make it sound like he's stealing food from a kid receiving assistance from world vision. Get real. PS5 is a luxury discretionary item and a bloody expensive toy for a kid even at RRP. If any parent is whinging about lack of stock preventing them from getting their kids one for Xmas, I'd tell them to piss off. First world problem much? Come back when it's about food, medical supplies or life essentials.

          • @dji1111111: I didn't say the kid needed it to survive.

It's not like trying to scalp hand sanitizer during covid. More like scalping tickets. Which is still a pretty rubbish thing to do to fans, despite being lucrative for the scalper.

Do what you gotta do to make money I guess.

            • @ozbjunkie: Well, stop selling kids to sell your story then.
Not every console is sold to kids as well, so stop your over-dramatisation.

One could say scalping tickets is different from this too because concerts are not mass produced goods. Once you miss a concert, you may not be able to buy that experience with money down the track ever again. PS5 is a mass produced goods and it is only going through a temporary stock shortage and this won't last.

Funny also how you think people selling consoles are doing it because they can't make money any other way (or to put in your words, broke bitches). I'm certainly not broke. thank you very much

              • @dji1111111: No one screams when someone buys a property/home and sell it 12-24 months later for a 10-15% gain. Its called an investment even though it prices others out of home ownership and a stable family life. But a PS5! Oh noooo dont you dare…

                • @oO0Dam0Oo: Yes it's funny how close minded and stupid some people are. Almost everything in this world has monetary value placed on them. Things that typically are called investments, people don't bat an eyelid. Every time you close your CFD contract at a profit, someone else is making a loss too since it's a zero sum game but nobody has any issues with it.

Now when it comes to gaming console which typcially doesn't get traded in this manner because it's usually a depreciating asset, people just can't wrap their head around it. I find it so ridiculous.

            • @ozbjunkie: Expensive avocado. Selling an avocado to fans.

              Win / win?

    • Seems like 4 people can't think of a decent way to make some coin, or just don't have the talent.

      • What a genius. Someone doesn't see anything wrong with reselling consoles and you equate that to that person not having any other means to generate income. Do you sometimes even think about what you are saying and see if it even makes sense?

        • If they had other ways to make money they'd do so without having to negatively influence someone else's gaming experience.

That is, if they were a gamer before they were a rabid capitalist. And many aren't.

          • @ozbjunkie: Omg.. Does one have to now consider someone else's gaming experience before making a decision on something like this or anything for that matter?
That is the worst argument ever…

            • +1

@dji1111111: No, the idea that your behaviours occur in a vacuum and do not affect other people or reflect your beliefs and values is the stupidest idea ever.

              • -1

@ozbjunkie: Mate, get your head out of sand. This is a gaming console. Not a freaking life essentials. Anyone can do whatever they want with their money. If I was distracting my neighbour due to excessive noise or something, yeah sure I will consider my behaviour but who bloody worries about someone being disappointed because they can't play game on the latest console? Haha what a joke…

Do you then pause whenever you buy something and you are picking the last item off the shelf? Please also make sure you don't get onto any discounted items because you may contribute to disappointing someone because they couldn't grab the bargain lol
You are ridiculous.. What a drama queen. All over a gaming console.

  • +1

I was initially a genuine user until I saw the absurd amount of money people are paying for it. I can wait a few months and there's really cyberpunk I want to play now… Wait a few months and my next ps5 is free… No brainer flipped it on gumtree in 2 days. Nothing to feel guilty about. Supply and demand and it's not essential items. I didn't force them to buy.

  • If I bought a PS5 it would be because I wanted to use one.

  • +1

Do a drop test and upload to youtube

    • +1

      I wonder…. Will it blend?

  • I bought one at retail, I set it up and started playing spiderman and damn! I’m glad I kept it, it’s pretty awesome and this is coming from a guy who only plays PC and sometimes Xbox (I have a series X on the way as well) I also bought the last of us 2 and am going to get Ghosts of Tsushima I already have demons souls as well I’m looking forward to. People saying there’s nothing to play on it are morons obviously as there’s literal months of gaming right there providing you haven’t played them before, I haven't. I get to catch up on everything I missed and selling it for me just pulls the joy out of the initial chase as it wasn’t easy to get (got lucky with Amazon previous batch) and takes away from the fact why I bought it in the first place.

Money is easy to come by in life if you work hard enough at whatever it is your doing and personally I’d rather have fun experiences in my memories than paper in my pocket. Having said that I’m not short for coin and don’t need the money so I can’t compare my circumstances to others as I’ve been blessed.

Personally the only reason to resell for a few hundred in my books is if you’re an absolute peasant and need $ for Christmas for which take the money as a donation from someone richer than you and feel bad about yourself for your life choices knowing you shouldn’t spend money on things you really can’t afford.

There’s also a restock coming on the 15th, and have fun dealing with the ebay fake 0 account bids or wasting time with low ballers and if you put a $ amount on all the time wasted trying to sell the thing a smart man knows his worth and will quickly realise it’s best just to keep it, there’s a also dedicated reddit subs now setup specifically for scalpers https://www.reddit.com/r/scamthescalpers/ and it’s some pretty funny shit what they’re doing if you want to take a read.

Short answer keep it and stop being a broke bitch

    • +2

Agreed. Broke bitches should find a way to make money other than scalping limited stock entertainment items before Christmas of a super crappy year for heaps of people.

  • Sell. No question.
